Moved here to the Philippines in May of 2018. I had a class I had to teach to the Oregon National Guard, and in less then a week later we were here. And I;m saving a lot of money here, because of the lower cost of living. I have never regretted my move. We also retired so I have a steady income, And that helps a lot. Just sign a contract to buy a piece of ground. So I will be paying off the land. And my rent is $100.00 per month for the place we live. As you said pack and sent before you leave. The freight to the Philippines is very slow 2 1/2 to 3 months from the west coast of the US. We pre-shipped everything we wanted. I agree just pack up and go.
Dr Laway; your right on the mark! My wife and I have been planning for several years to move and retire in Davao. Your topics about downsizing and getting rid of materials is the stage we are in right now and we will be selling our home in Austin TX at the end of this year with and move ASAP...currently selling stuff and filling balik bayan boxes. Can't wait to enjoy life!!!
Yes send all you want in balik bayan boxes. no weight limit. I shipped thru LBC. They shipped other large weight boxes for very cheap. To Philippines is cheap. back to USA is not. Any other boxes or wood crates cover with cardboard is what LBC suggested. This was fine and worked great to blend in with the standard sized BB boxes. If you drop off at LBC it was $69. from Illinois (close to O'hare). Otherwise cost is $79. or more. All my tools and heavy items arrived very safe. I shipped 11 BB boxes and 6 non-standard heavy boxes for around $1000. I tried to ship a box back to the USA same size as standard BB Box from LBC they quote around $500.00 for 20+kilo. So I skipped that Idea to send stuff back to my family. Good luck to move and safe travels. The Philippines is a great place to live because all the people are very nice and friendly happy Filipinos. I love this place!!!

Just found your content. Been putting this off for too long and can finally feel myself gaining the momentum to make this happen. Just need to figure out how to make money online, and I'm gone.
I am looking forward to my early retirement in December 2022. I have prepared for it. I sold my home quickly, and got rid of everything and was left with 2 check in luggages and a handcarry. I made arrangements for my finances with my financial adviser. I opened an account with Charles Schwab so I could use their debit card at atm's in the Philippines. I made final arrangements with my retirement funds. I paid all my debts and opened a cheap cell phone plan with a US number. So that number can be used for my bank/credit card company to send security codes when needed.

So after the step father died we just had lost interest in heading to the Philippines but we went ahead and rebuilt our compound there making it Typhoon proof. Now the wife has decided it is definitely time to make the move now. This time we are going to sell everything here and just ship maybe 10 or 20 Balikbayan boxes full of things that is nor readily available in the PH.

I did send old desktop pc to the philippines thru balikbayan box . Electronics equipment cost is much higher in ASIA than in the US even if theyre made there which doesnt make sense. Did check prices in Japan ,Beijing,Singapore,Philippines, South Korea before

Balikbayan boxes are robbed often. Typically any expensive equipment gets stolen by shippers or customs. You can find good deals on electronics in the Philippines but on average it's more expensive.
Just want to added some info that I think can help to all foreigners like to move in Philippines..Just make sure you have enough money to do/have business in Philippines. You cannot own any lot or any land in the Philippines as a foreigner. So what did you exactly buy? Cost of living is not dramatically different to many European countries.
Why did you been in the Philippines? I subscribed his blog video because he is right what he sees because I am Filipino and now I’m married with American citizen and I’m live in USA now.
Good advice, I'm trying to cut the cord now, friends are telling me to take it slow, keep the house, etc, which I think is bad advice. I'm giving away a lot of things, everyone says I shouldn't give away so much, losing tens of K in the progress, but doing so will save just as much money, so it is simpler. In fact, some are telling me I'm TOO laser focused. They don't understand the task ahead, but I do. Every day, every spare minute must be focused on the end goal.
And the end goal is likely not worth it. Ask yourself why many Filipinos emigrate and many wealthy Filipinos will never return to the Philippines. I know of Filipinos who've inherited a nice modern property and have all the advantages but refuse to return. What do they know and you don't?
@@incremental_failure Most people move to America for opportunity. It isn't for our toxic culture, or our "safe streets" (ha!), or cost of living. Those of us who are past worring about opportunity want something different. A few want status, or simply "things", which we have plenty of.
@@dennislbrown There's more than just America, Filipinos emigrate everywhere. If you think US has toxic culture, you really don't know the Philippines. US at least has a legal system that works, corruption is kept to a manageable level. You will need to deal with Philippines authorities in some form or another and then you will see what true corruption and bribery is like. In the Philippines, everyone is for sale, no matter their position.
@@dennislbrown Btw, I lived in the Philippines for over 7 years. I was warned about Philippines and Filipinos (the filth, corruption, bureaucratic nightmares, bribery etc.) and didn't listen. You won't listen to me either, you will learn over time.
@@incremental_failure You are correct, lol. Fortunately, I trust no one (two divorces) and very cautious financially, and properly capitalized. Start small, work your way up thinking. So yes, I will make mistakes, but going slow, I will try to minimize them. But yes, we all have to make our own mistakes.
I've found over time if you're doing business and you go above and beyond, people tend to see you as weak and don't respect the extra efforts you put into it. You would think the opposite but that's not what I've observed.
@@DrLawaytravels very nice. I lived in Davao for two years. It started as a two month trip but I just stayed. Making plans now to go back so I can revisit old friends.

If you dont mind, are familiar with the rules of importation in U.S.
Idk if you'll see this now, but can you recommend a good travel hard drive
I like western digital, Elements I always keep a 2TB with me for short trips but I also have a 5TB if I need more storage or files to take
buy more vitamins, paracetemol and electronics before leaving
I've found over time if you're doing business and you go above and beyond, people tend to see you as weak and don't respect the extra efforts you put into it. You would think the opposite but that's not what I've observed.
I'm a trial lawyer in a similar situation! Do you do any consultation?
Yes, $10K retainer and $500 per hour because he’s a partner.

@@DrLawaytravels very nice. I lived in Davao for two years. It started as a two month trip but I just stayed. Making plans now to go back so I can revisit old friends.
👏👍🇵🇭🙏🙏🙏
We learned sooooo much from the lockdowns and forced medical experiments that I am sure it will never happen again. LOL
Been here going on six months and I am growing to hate this country. Traveled all over and can’t seem to find a place I like. The people here are extremely hateful and racist, mean. Told my gf today if I can’t find a place I get along at then I am leaving. I have no choice. I don’t want to be the American guy bitching and complaining all the time and or beating the crap out of some disrespectful local. End up in prison my whole life.
you sound a whole barrel of fun... just gooo
