Well, my uncle has been living in Thailand for about 40 years now, but lived in Cebu, Philipines for 16 years before that. He chose Thailand because my aunt is Thai. My fiance is Filipino, so guess the Phillipines would be my choice. IDK really. Thanks for educating me more.
Cebu is great but too crowded for my taste. Have you visited Batanes island and north ilocos? Noe that's a great place to live in. Quiet but still open to new things. And great cuisine.
Well, your appraisal of the 2 countries is reasonably fair & accurate. Having spent 13 years permanently in Thailand but having travelled far more extensively in The Philippines in recent times. Your personal situation with being married to a Filipino is without doubt going to bias your decision on the topic. For me it really comes down to individual choice, anybody considering living in either country needs to spend time in both to make a final decision. Personally I'm very happy in either country and divide my time between the two. It's exhausting and complex seeing people making one for one comparisons. But be assured both countries are very welcoming with lots of happy, smiling faces. The only word of caution, PLEASE make sure your finances are sufficient for the duration. Because in either The Philippines or Thailand running out of money supply can be very problematic...
Philippines is my country. I visit Thailand once in while for business only. Their boutique items are excellent. English is our second language. From Elementary to Unversity, we use English as medium of teachings ...

If u plan on living here in the Philippines... Try learning the local language of the place ur staying at.. Its very convenient to converse with the locals there... But ultimately tagalog..... U cant go wrong with tagalog/filipino also nice beard and mustache.. I love it
For the whole of the Philippines, you have to ultimately learn Tagalog/Filipino as your main Philippine language, you won’t go wrong wherever you go. With the exception of Cebu since they’d prefer speaking their language instead, or English.

I traveled a lot B4 ( 70 countries). I visited Thailand 14x and The Philippines also 14x.My wife is a Filipina so lately we go to The Philippies...but I prefer Thailand for few reasons.Much better medical service, better hotels and Great Foods!!!In The Philp. almost every my visit I got food poison! But there are things such religion(Catholic) and English that Thai is less "confi" then The Philippiness.
I'm trying to plan my retirement, so this video was very helpful to me. I used to go to Thailand regularly, but switched to the Philippines because I found I get more bang for my buck. Things seem to be getting more expensive in PI, so maybe Vietnam will be better than either of these places in the future.
If your retired and 60 plus must be close to top hospitals and infrastructure, not to mention world class food Thailand is my pick. Philippines is great to visit but its lacking what i want. Thailand wins big for me.

Reason, Chowking + Halo Halo = Home . You mentioned your son does not speak Bisaya, what about that "Redneck Bisaya" you mentioned? LOL . On the serious side P.I lacks gov't support, like comprehensive health care coverage although Phil Health helps, it's only the start one has to fork out $$ for surgeries and such. But like you said education is super cheap as I have two girls going to college in Manila and if they stayed in the States it would have cost me a fortune. Housing in P.I is also affords foreigners so much option as compared in the states. City vs province and subdivision ready houses vs custom and so forth.
Cool Videos -With 2 ex Flipinas-Thailand is my place now-no 911-limited health care-too many islands-also Thailand retirement simple-over 50-need 24K USD in Thai bank -report address every 90 days -show proof of 24 k every year for retirement visa-bottom line if you cannot put 24K USD in Thai bank unable to retire here-many here have pensions-whereas in the Philippines you can live off of SS-Thais are more chill -talk less (less drama) but both beautiful-some do not like the risk of 24k usd in foreign bank-so easier to live in Philippines-both though a bit hard to get a 8-9-10 -
Interesting video, thanks. I agree the language issue may be deciding factor for me. I like hiking - walking up mountainsides, through forest areas. Tropical rain forests are my favourite. Which country / area would you suggest is better for bushwalking along various tracks and trails? Perhaps I could ask is the Philippines hotter and more humid in summer than say, Chiang Mai or are they roughly the same?
They are really big countries with different climates in different parts. In the Summer I would would say is just a couple of degrees cooler than where I am currently in the PH. If I go 40 minutes north of here it would be cooler than Chiang Mai, also if you go north of Chiang Mai to the mountains it gets cooler as well. Humidity is IMO worse in the Southern Philippines. Chiang Mai is an excellent place for hiking. Many of the trails are actually paths to temples and monasteries, so when you get to the top, you have incredible buildings to view and explore.
@@DrLawaytravels i hope u been to the north phils.. baguio sagad etc… its a whole new world up there… its like u put metro manila on top of the nountains. Only then u can give the best and accurate advice on which is best
Judging from replies, there are some excellent walking tracks in parts of the Philippines also. I will need to research these more. Hopefully English will be spoken in these areas. This seems to be the only negative for me re living in Thailand. The language barrier, once you leave the cities. I'm accustomed to this, the problems it can cause, having spent a year living in rural China where English was never used.
@@OzBarry Philippines is the third largest English-speaking country in the world actually, as Engllish is the primary medium of instruction in Philippine schools.. As for your interest in hiking, check out Baguio (our summer capital becoz of its cool weather). If you want somewhere nearer Manila, there's Tagaytay, a popular tourist destination here. You can also check out some of the areas in Rizal Province (also near Manila) like Tanay where there's even a 'sea of clouds' attraction.
Filipinos are more sociable than any Asian Countries except Singapore because they're more conversant especially in English they can easily adapt in any situation and fun loving people from AU
Ever thought about Malaysia? I don't know why, but in our beautiful nation there are barely any westerners living here. Maybe only 1 percent of the westerners in Thailand or Philippines. We try to attract them, but foreigners do not like it in Malaysia.
I have thought about Malaysia a great deal, specifically Kuala Lumpur under the MM2H program. Two years ago before they shut it down I was ready to commit. Unfortunately since then the government has been playing games with that and I have been waiting to see how it pans out. I have friends who were already committed there and love the country but were very upset with the changes and felt betrayed by the government.
In Vietnam they speak better English than in Thailand. Also, you get bigger room accomadations for the same price. However, the massages are hire. But the food is way better. Other countries that are better than PI with better infustructure is Republic of Georgia which has 1 year visa on arrival and very cheap to live like PI or Thailand. Tiblisi Georgia. Make this your base then when it gets cold go to Thailand for an easy 6 month visa (3 months - then extend another 3 month).
Tbilisi is a neat place, was really low cost on housing. We were debating between there and Thailand when we decided to go to Thailand for awhile. My folks on the ground there tell me that rental costs have skyrocketed since March. I am looking forward to visiting Vietnam for a trip, never have been. Glad to hear the food is good
Koreans, Japanese, Russians, Indonisians, etc. go to the Philippines just to study English language. They prefer to study in the Philippines because it’s much cheaper compare to the US-fyi☺️
visa run in thailand is exhausting and expensive, every month or every 2 months you have to go border for visa run.. and the immigration keep changing the rules for extension. not convenient at all!
theres no comparison, both countries are beautiful.. just enjoy your life in both countries.. who cares who is the best or the worst country, what important right now is how to make the most out of it coz life is too short.. all youtubers like to compare thailand and philippines just to promote their youtube chanel.. the whole world is becoming worst..
I just wish the Philippines food was better, and that it wasn't so dirty. Thailand food, hotels, rental homes, and cleanliness in the streets is so much better.
I would like to consider Philippines, but for me (a gift that’s a curse I guess) is noticing the poverty; you’re talking the 2nd most poverty country in the world. (UN says population will be largest in world by 2030, like a billion). All the travel vlogs, with the background music, and “Molly” from San Diego just kick’n around the restaurants and salons, like still in Malibu… isn’t showing the starving teenager laying on sidewalk on way to Ayala Mall in Cebu (probably just an inconvenience. I would notice the street kids, some 5 years old, maybe the oldest like 10 looking out for them, while “Jason” and “Bridget” as the 20’s got to get a new camera so can film there lunch outing on route to show their new condo they just picked up. Walked out of Star City in Manila, everyone paying for their kids birthday party riding rides, only to walk out when close and there’s a little girl, maybe six, with a torn dress selling little flower necklace for 20php. I gave 100, had no change, and she ran to her mom to show her (but then all the other children wanted to eat to, so I got in the taxi fast, that my friend called to leave. How you deal with that?
Mine is good for a year without extension. Normal Visa on arrival/exempt is renewed for 28 days and then 2 months and it can be renewed up to 6 months at a time. But different immigration offices may only give the 2 months. Every group is reporting different on the 2, 3, or 6 month success rate.
success is dependent on the action or steps you take to achieve it.. show me a man who doesn't have an investment and I will tell you how soon he'll go broke .. investment is building a safe heaven for the future. with the right choice of investment that has at least 1% minimum risk and with an expert guidance profit and interest is 100% guaranteed.
I would choose the Philippines because I have a personal history and love for the Philippines. I was stationed at Clark from 1990-to 91, and my grandfather was a Marine and caught by the Japanese at Corregidor in WW2.
You're very welcome bro. your dad had made a sacrifice saving the country during those dark period of our country and the country is very thankful for it.
New sub and first time responding. I opened a business for 9 years in Thailand and married a Thai. You hit the nail on the head. Thailand is the land of smiles until you have financial strife. No longer married, no longer have a business but still love Thailand and its plethora of excellent foods. The visa situation is out of control so my next and last trip will be to the Philippines for retirement using a military SRRV. Thanks for telling it like it is.

Best advice I can give you is to visit both and travel each country pretty extensively talk to both expats and locals. @frankcentofanti9317 the biggest problem is communication. Most of places in Philippines, you can get away with just speaking English, not so in Thailand.
Great info. Thank you. You mentioned you'd choose Thailand if you were younger and single. Also that RUclipsrs are leaving Thailand because of fairly recent visa requirement changes. Can you elaborate a little on this from your personal perspective? Is it simply weighing visa costs and bureaucratic headache versus overall cost and quality of living?
If I was younger with no family I would not get a home base I would be purely nomadic. It is much less expensive in Thailand to get short term more affordable accommodation than most of the Philippines. That changes if you are willing to commit to a longer period of time. There is also a very large group of foreigners in Thailand in that age range who are from lots of different countries that have created a start up and free lancer community. That would be good to tap into. As an established business I really do not need that anymore. The RUclips thing would take way to long to explain, if enough people are interested I will do a video on it. Thanks

I have been living in Chiang Mai for the last 14 years and have been happy here. (I am Australian). 9 years ago I bought an apartment here for about AUD$50,00 and it has worked out well. However in the last couple of years with Covid restrictions many things changed. Although Thailand and Chiang Mai in particular have opened up a lot, somehow I feel the need for a major change in my life. Have not been to the Philippines for 35 years (I am 73, but in excellent health). Last time there I was mugged and robbed at gunpoint in Manila, so that soured me on ever going back. However all things change. Have been doing some research online, and Davao City or Cagayan de Oro seem like suitable places. If I had married in Thailand no doubt I would feel differently. As it is, I have been a bachelor all my life. I have no financial problems whatsover, and have not found Thai Immigration difficult or expensive. Have a substantial income from Australia in the form of rent from my Australian house, corporate bonds, and other extremely secure investments. Have no interest in moving back to Australia. All of my family there have died because I am the youngest by far. In addition, many of the old friendships there have become tenuous over the years. Obviously I have to think the matter through thoroughly, because if I make the move, I will not want to do it again. Will probably visit the Philippines on my way back from Australia in November. Will try to ensure I simply change planes in Manila. Do not want to spend even one night there.

How old is he now?
@@davefranco5731 Cebu 16yrs, plus 40 yrs in Thailand. If he lived in Cebu when he was 20 yrs, that will make him 76 years old by now.
Cebu is great but too crowded for my taste. Have you visited Batanes island and north ilocos? Noe that's a great place to live in. Quiet but still open to new things. And great cuisine.
two boring countries
i hear Ukraine is exciting these days you should visit@@giannilyanicks1718
Good review.. we will be staying in PI , for all the same reasons you have mentioned. cheers

It is higher in Cebu and Manila, but I am not sure. We looked at Cebu it was still much less than the areas of Thailand we were in.
If u plan on living here in the Philippines... Try learning the local language of the place ur staying at.. Its very convenient to converse with the locals there... But ultimately tagalog..... U cant go wrong with tagalog/filipino also nice beard and mustache.. I love it
Thanks! Currently learning Bisaya, that is the local language in the area I am in.
@@DrLawaytravels You mean "Redneck Bisaya" as you mentioned? I speak half baked Bisaya so don't feel bad. LOL
For the whole of the Philippines, you have to ultimately learn Tagalog/Filipino as your main Philippine language, you won’t go wrong wherever you go. With the exception of Cebu since they’d prefer speaking their language instead, or English.
Love your video man. Enjoy the Philippines. 👍

Chowking 👍👍 Good points!
Have fun and enjoy in the PH

Up north in luzon its cold there and u can have tons of mountains to hike along cordillera to ifugao, sagada etc...

Glad to hear the food is good
Yes Georgia but if heats still goes on in Ukraine don't expect that Georgia could escape the Russian onslaught.
Your first reason is enough not to judge your decision to stay in Ph
Can you tell me where and what school you have chosen, for I have the same issues with finding good affordable scholing for my English speaking son.
Koreans, Japanese, Russians, Indonisians, etc. go to the Philippines just to study English language. They prefer to study in the Philippines because it’s much cheaper compare to the US-fyi☺️
Do you have a SRRV visa or do you renew your tourist visa
In Thailand internatiional school is too expensive most graduate don't get a good job.
visa run in thailand is exhausting and expensive, every month or every 2 months you have to go border for visa run.. and the immigration keep changing the rules for extension. not convenient at all!
theres no comparison, both countries are beautiful.. just enjoy your life in both countries.. who cares who is the best or the worst country, what important right now is how to make the most out of it coz life is too short.. all youtubers like to compare thailand and philippines just to promote their youtube chanel.. the whole world is becoming worst..

I just wish the Philippines food was better, and that it wasn't so dirty. Thailand food, hotels, rental homes, and cleanliness in the streets is so much better.
What about those Thailand visa changes?
If u just wanna go around Thailand 🇹🇭 if you wanna explore philippines 🇵🇭
How you deal with that?
do you have to renew your visa every 30 days? or can you extend it for longer?

Best advice I can give you is to visit both and travel each country pretty extensively talk to both expats and locals. At the end of the day no one can make the decision for you as it is all very subjective. One country may work better for you or neither. Best to experience what your life could be by living the life. It is definitely what I had in mind, visiting both countries. I was just hoping to find out, what base might be best to travel from. I’m planing on spending a lot of time in Southeast Asia, including Vietnam, Malaysia, et cetera. But in order to do so, I was thinking of having a place to call home, and that either in the Philippines or in Thailand.
@@perlitaenriquez5131 Thank you for taking the time getting back to me.
Maybe it is just my excitement that makes me a little uncertain. I’m thinking of spending a lot of time in Southeast Asia, and I was planing on having a home base somewhere. A place I would travel from and comfortably rest in between my trips. Nothing to big nor to fancy, just clean, relatively quiet in a town that offers conveniences.
Accommodation is very cheap
If I was you I would make a short list of areas and then go and visit these areas and check out the vibe and make a decision from there
It’s cheaper to live in the Philippines rather than in Thailand plus Philippines has many beautiful Tourists Destinations to offer to Foreigners and local travelers in the Philippines
Thailand is more expensive over all but they have better infrastructure and medical facilities.
kind of important when you retire don’t you think
Thanks
I believe that you tubers run to the Philippines noy necessarily for visa. Philippines have about 100 million population and is very appreciative of RUclipsrs advertising the Philippines. They understand your language and will quickly support your channel. I've seen a lot starting with 7k subscribers and leaving with 500 + subscribers. Someone I know started small and after 2 months he left with 100k subscribers. This is probably the reason why.
@@marick_2183 You’re right about this. Filipinos are very insecure people and would always want validation from foreigners. This is caused by Spanish invasion for more than three centuries plus Japan for several years. Moreso, Filipinos are gullible. Influencers (and politicians) take advantage of it. Filipinos really believe that all the good stuff that foreigners say about the culture, food, places, etc when in reality, these RUclipsrs just want more subscribers and views.

Hey man. I'm married to a Filipina from Iligan city, relatively close to Cagayan de Oro. CdO is a good place to settle down. It's by the ocean, it's close to the airport (Laguindingan) etc. Also, as a small/midsize town it has all the amenities one would need. Also, the region is beautiful. Cebu is a short flight away, surf area surigau/siargao is close too with nice ambiance. Me and my wife are planning to buy a lot just west of CdO. Good luck mate!
Also, Davao is a bigger city and very safe and organized by PH standards, so both Davao and CdO are good.
You will be surprised how different the PH is now. Go to BGC you will like it there.
Thailand is like the USA while philippines is same as Mexico
Dr. Laway , Sir try to visit NORTH PHILIPPINES and you will see a beautiful place like a city in the mountain in BAGUIO CITY...other historical place in VIGAN ILOCOS and NUEVA VISCAYA I'm sure you gonna love it☺☺☺ goodluck and congrats for choosing Philippines as your home base and of course for fair comparison of this two beautiful countries☺☺☺😍😍keep safe and God bless......more vlog pls.😄😄☺☺
Thank you and thanks for the suggestions to see!
Great info, many things I didn’t think of. I have a girlfriend with child in the Philippines and I am going back in a few weeks. The child and family connections would prevent me from making Thailand a permanent residence but I do like the cheaper real estate costs. One thing I notice from having been in the Philippines and watching RUclips videos of Thailand is Thailand looks much cleaner than the Philippines.
If you go to the province in the Philippines they are cleaner than big city in Manila area
Thailand is little more progressive than the Phils but Filipinos can speak better English.
Live in BGC if you want clean urban city
i would say Thailand is advance than Philippines bcoz of a lot of government official that keep on lootnig the government money than putting it into improvement. good thing du30 became president and PH slowly booming and hoping to have another good 6 yrs for the upcoming president which is the son of a former president who build a lot of infrastructure in the country. soon PH will be better than THAI
i had been to Thailan we have so.maby cdb spots in our cpuntry the Phiñippines whicxh is.more modern rhan Thailand like BGC,Makati.ORTIGAS.Alabang.Moa Area.Mandaluyong area at megamall.Eadt wood city.North Triangle and so.much.more.I guess we have.morw cbds in Metro.Manila than other sputheast asian countries.
you were always choosing philippines haha
Thanks 👍 for another great video with great information.
I greatly appreciate your content because I feel that it helps me a lot in my situation.
I currently have a Filipina girlfriend and when that time comes,.. I'm thinking that I would rather retire in the Philippines rather than the U.S. mainly because of affordability and making my limited money count more in the Philippines.
Thanks again for a great video.
I appreciate that! Good luck to you and your girlfriend
Enlightening, Thanks Mate🙏🏻
*Would definitely like to hear about Visa Changes of late in Thailand
I'm currently living in Thailand and just really don't like it. Been thinking about heading back to the Philippines for a while. My experience with immigration is one of the main reasons. I'd love to hear about these visa changes for Thailand you mentioned.
ovbiously this man loves thailand over philippines
