Thanks for the little tweaks… which i have implemented this year as was always a 3/4 puts per hole… I went to our national golf shop and had a fitting and the suggested the same putters I already got(3 of them). I had cut them down think my eyes were not over the ball, went to contact lenses think it was my glasses..
So I brought a a bladed putter and added some tire weights and the additional weight has made a massive difference… squared the face and improved my putting stroke ( in my opinion).
I used you line drill and trust the read… and they going in… starting to make pars and have the chance now of birdies.
I take the looking in front of the ball to the course next week.
Thanks again for improving my game.

Alex, you absolute legend. Tried tweak 3 over the last few days (eyes looking ahead of the ball) and it dramatically improved both the line and pace of my putting sinking more long distance putts and giving others a chance by getting it past the hole. Really helps consistency of strike and commitment to the speed and stops my brain overiding my body in the backswing or strike. Hope it continues !

Though I disagree with placing eyes over the ball because alignment should be done prior to set up with an intermediate target (my routine), I fully agree with your #5, practice putts looking at the target. This works amazingly well to setting your tempo relative to the green conditions on a particular day. The foot open alignment is new to me but it makes sense, providing space for the hands to travel freely seems ideal and I will try this. Keep bringing these tips Alex, nicely done!

Regarding tip #3... Eyes over the ball... I recently scored a secondhand Cleveland VP5 putter, and I've seen quite a bit of improvement just from using the alignment feature on the top of the club head. Even if I miss I'm getting closer to the hole. 3 putts have consistently become 2-putts. I'm gonna try a few more of these tips to see if I can't see a bit more improvement.

Hi Alex. I recently started this spot putting(as I call it) about 2 inches in front of my ball after using the alignment line on the ball to point on my intended starting line. I then just focus on rolling the ball over this spot. I was a putter for 20 years who would always focus on the putter going back and the putter woulb never go back the same way. Now I don't even think about it and just roll the ball over the spot in front of the ball. I'm averaging about eight 1 putts a round and I my 2 puts are burning the edges on the first putt. Of course you have to read the green properly and have the correct speed for each putt but now anything within 5 feet where the break is close to a half a ball or even a ball outside any edge is money! I would miss 9/10 of these before but now the makes are 9/10. Love the rest of the tips you gave. Just wanted to confirm what i've been doing recently confirms what I see in this video. I fianlly can't wait to get to the green and putt instead of the pure dread I used to feel. Very freeing and athletic!

  • @bradleycrawford9837
    @bradleycrawford9837 Год назад

When I first get to the practice green, I find the flattest putt. Then I turn the putter head horizontal with the front lined up with the toe of my front shoe. I line up the toe of my back shoe with the back of the putter head. I then hit a putt exactly (as possible) the width of the putter head, stopping the putter at my front foot (like Mickelson) and measure the length. Normally it comes put to around 15 to 20 feet. I now have my formula for the round, adjusting as necessary for uphill, downhill, etc. As long as your stroke speed is consistent, and you don't try to goose it, it works well. ⛳️

Pretty old video, but it intrigued me that the last tip was even a thing. I am a retired pool hustler and in pool, you always look at your target, which is a spot on the object ball. You never look at the cue ball once your set. The cue ball would be analogous to your putter. Once I am set, I look at the hole and simply putt the ball in the hole. It is easy. I am automatic inside 10 feet and never 3 putt. My second putt if there is one, is usually inches from the cup. I am also cross dominant so my dominant eye is closest to the hole so my nose is not in the way.

Not a fan of the dropping the ball for alignment. For me if the ball is under my eyes a straight putt will look like I'm aiming way left. Really hard to trust a putt when your alignment looks wrong from your prospective. I used a putting alignment stick to find the right distance for me, which was about a ball outside straight down.

The best tip for putting that I can think of is if u have a 3 ft to 8ft putt. If it's on a flat green and u av an 8ft putt then set Ur right foot 8inches from the ball and swing club back to that foot and through and you'll never be short. If u av a 3ft putt then go back 3 inch and through and never b short or if u miss too far through past the hole. And also lock Ur knees inward so no lower leg movement 👍

Tbh find a grip that suits you. We are all different and putting grip can be very individual

As the putt gets shorter, I get closer to the ball. Not the same for all putts.

A Rory McIlroy putting tip helped me. Stand between the ball and the hole on the low side and notice any level changes. Then stand behind and ball and ask myself it I hit the ball at the hole, where would go? If I think it will go a foot to the left, aim a foot to the right. I knocked off 3 putts around doing this. I may not sink the putt but it will go right by it.

All this has nothing to do with anything. Learning how to actually putt does. And that takes a lot of investigation and many hours of practice. Follow the teachings of Stan Utley and Ben Crenshaw. Tiger has some good input to. It is mostly about blade rotation and how to NOT have it when on a tilted plane. Ben especially talks about HOW to reduce rotation. And that gets to light grip, and blade release where the putter is put into it's own momentum which takes the person themselves out of the putt. SBST is the kiss of death. When putting on a tilted plane you must go to the arc in order to take out actual blade rotation relative to that plane. Square to the plane and square to the target are TWO TOTALLY DIFFERENT THINGS. And by the rules of golf, you must putt on a tilted plane. Start by learning what a proper putting stroke on a tilted plane actually is. Virtually nobody but touring pros do this. That is why there are so few touring pros who can make a living at playing golf. There is a reason some pros male 58 out of 58 inside t0 feet for the week. Accept that as a fact and start there.

The tip about your eyes on top of the ball is wrong for most. Great putters eyes are inside the putting line in over 75% of top pros

You never want your eyes directly over the ball. You will not see the line properly.

Hi Alex. Like your RUclips pages. However Disagree with you on a couple of things. While wet and windy weather tests the players in golf what about the paying spectators? I've been to opens when there has been torrential rain and its not enjoyable. I would much prefer it to be dry. You said par 3's that are too long and difficult are stupid. This may be true for handicap golfers but for tour players the par of a hole is really irrelevant. The goal is to play any hole in the least shots possible for a pro. Calling it a long par 3 or a short par 4 doesn't matter

Putting is the one and only golf shot/swing in the game of golf that you don't have any set stance/grip/rules/putter length/putter head/etc.....so "tips" are pointless. Stand how you want, as narrow/wide as you want, put your hands how you want, lean as much as you want, swing how you want. The goal is to just be comfortable and learn to judge the putting LINE and SPEED. That's it.
