    BTW the 4k60 isn't oversampling from the full 7k sensor but it is still at least true 4k which is great.

      It's just phenomenal. By the way... would it be possible to get some details on how you handle correcting and grading vlog pro res raw on the S5 video you made (would love to know how to implement Roger That V2 to images coming out from the S5). The B-roll looks insane.

      From what I understand the 60p oversamples from 4.6k instead of 7k. So it’s slightly over 4k. That’s what I’ve heard. I could be wrong.

      No its not, its workable, in Super35 mode the S5 AF is just as good as Sony A7IV, I used the S5 professionally for gun and run situation as a videocam and it does the job admirable, there some adjustments you have to make in the settings to the AF, basically the S5 is very slow AF, it struggles immensely with situations in which a subject moves towards a camera or away from it, but anything else it does good, you kind of have to tell it what to lock the focus on or follow because if you leave the camera to think for itself it can be pretty wild at times.

    • @apocryphal_man
      @apocryphal_man 2 года назад +7

      I have both cameras now, the A7iv is NOT an S5 with autofocus. The S5 is better in everything except autofocus and EVF resolution (which is VERY unfortunate for a camera you’ll probably be manual focussing on). Vlog beats slog3 by miles, colour is much better in terms of grading and usability out of camera (also true for stills). The Sony also lacks a lot of video tools you really, really need. The video CAN be sharper than the S5 but notion a desirable way. For stills 33 mp let’s you crop in more but not much. The S5 has a better body with much better dials and buttons, weather sealing and never overheats. It has a hugely superior stabilisation and. The A7iv I really and truly only have it for when I have to have super reliable autofocus and have to shoot hybrid. That the Sony delivers 100%. The full size hdmi is nice to have on the Sony.
      The colours and the Sony are so much more work and always look bland and dead without lots of tweaking. It’s better than in the last generation but not good. White balance is also all over the place if you don’t use manual all the time which is unnecessarily complicated and cumbersome on the Sony. You can even use custom luts. Actually reading this I think I’m gonna sell it…

    And love your Channel
    Little contextual infos
    I have 2 BMPCC4K and one 6k, plus some GH5,5s I bought all second hand because I am mostly shooting classical music concerts and I needed a lot of cameras for it and MFT BMPCC 2Hand was the way to go to start making Videos ...I am coming from Audio where I mostly do multimic recording up to big orchestra formation...but lately more demand for Video so had to reshape my services.
    First of all Blackmagic Video Assist was the best purchase I have made recently,in combo with S5 it is like you said a FF BMPCC...👍👍👍👍
    You are right about the internal vs brawl codecs...it is not such a big difference.
    Even for matching the cameras...thanks to my mix camerabrand purchase I had to be fit in colormatching and learn to do it properly and still learning.
    But yes Braw Vlog is easier to match with Gen5 Bmpcc.
    IR pollution with BMPCC4K 6K is noticable,I did not find it in S5...
    Overall S5 is a great camera...but what about sigma fp I have already plenty of cameras but I am still intrigued about Sigma FP used...I follow your channel since some times and what are you thinking about the esthetic aspect of the image? S5 vs FP?
    Complementary? different? Braw FP?

    Owner of a S5 and a a7IV. If you're in a budget and you're thinking about getting a S5, remember that you don't have the Tamron or Samyang third party lens to buy and the L mount lens collection is short.
    In a budget can't be the main reason to buy a Lumix S5. If you use a lot of AF, specially in video, the camera is not that good compared to the a7iv.

    Lumix looks more filmic, sony is sharper. I have both cameras, for video shooter which does not need top AF and can color well himself, I would say A7IV is a waste of money. I do not even want to compare it for handheld video, as S5 kills Sony in this comparison. Lumix feels better in hands. But sony has nicer color profiles from the camera, and as I said, it is a tad sharper so it is better for photographer, not that S5 is not tack sharp, but Sony is a bit sharper.

    • @Fedorevsky
      @Fedorevsky 2 года назад +2

      Yeah, Sony cameras have more baked in sharpness (and noise reduction). You have to move up to something like FX6 or FX9 to get rid of it. I always prefer to do sharpness in post if needed in certain shots so I highly prefer Panasonic cameras. This can be easily seen by comparing A7III to S5 since they have the same sensor. A7III has that digital artificial sharpness and the S5 looks much more natural and closer to celluloid. This despite the A7III having a partial OLPF while the S5 has none.

    • @sjmedia_official
      @sjmedia_official 2 года назад

      @@Fedorevsky In this case I meant, detail as well. You can see the difference between 33mpx and 24mpx, it is more detailed, not that it looks more cinematic.

    • @Fedorevsky
      @Fedorevsky 2 года назад +1

      @@sjmedia_official Maybe a bit. Both shoot 4k down-sampled from a much higher mpx count so there would be a tiny bit of a difference there I guess. However I think the A7IV has an OLPF softening the image so most of that difference would probably be negated.

      Maybe you should walk outside and look at people this time, you wont see orange skin tones, their skin colour is gonna be various orange-pink colours, if you want orange skin colours, use makeup and stop being a freak trying to control everything in camera, good video is made with good sets.

  • @KRSchannel

    I am getting my Komodo tomorrow, I have A7IV and A7sIII, and I like A7IV much better, cleaner and sharper, thus far none of these SLR, DSLR, Mirrorless truly give you that 24fps cinematic look of Arri even when using cine match or arri lut, it's just not the same, then I see Komodo which is very similar to these cameras, but let's hope with my DZO cine lens I get something more out of it. I love that details on the face when you see a Hollywood film, like you can see those pours on the cheeks and that depth in the face with likes of Arri Mini, Mini LF, BMPCC just feels like a super16mmm look which is truly cinematic, but ways to go. One thing I have noticed clearly is when I shot with my R5 8K Raw, the image just was way different than 10 bit sony or even 10 bit canon, something about raw that just brings out more color, depth and roll off highlights. If Sony had given an internal raw recording i wouldn't have even thought about Komodo. The only true cinematic look I have seen out of a hybrid camera is Sigma FP and Canon 5Dmark II with magic lantern. I loved that progressive scan of frame where each frame is an image rather than a motion capture. Would love to see you use cinema lenses on these cameras and see the difference.
