i was just looking into the overheating issues...some people have it and some dont... the recommend front splitter for this car is the ZR-1 style from Aspis. Unlike the one this guy has, the vent is in the middle rather then 2 on the sides. The corvette forums say that the middle is much better and no overheating issues have occured.
Good Job! Looks great! You might want to think about installing some BLACK letters (Corvette) in the front license plate. That will definitely make everything come together and make that front end look AWESOME! It will blend the Corvette front logo, tag area, and the splitter together. Visualize it and you'll see... I bought one before I saw your video. I found your video after I bought one to see how one goes on. I am having my mechanic do the job so he can put it up on a hoist and have extra help in his shop. Also, I'm putting on the ZR1 side shirts too for a complete look. Thanks for your video. Good job.
@@DriveHub I've bought 3 C5s over the last 14 years. My first was a stock A4 Hatchback. 2nd one was a 6spd Hatchback with a Procharger. My 3rd and current, is a 99 FRC Pewter like yours, with a Voretch Supercharger and a Stroked LS2 402. With my dad's passing in January, I inherited the a4 hatch he had bought from me, and his 98 6spd convertible. The C5 is one of my favorite generations(my old man had owned 16 corvettes from 1969 to present). You've got a good car man. Being a do-it-yourselfer is a lost trait and you should be proud of what you've accomplished with your own hands. Remember to save the wave! And if I'm ever out that way I'll be sure to wave back at ya.
So it appears trimming the inner edges of the air dam around the corner rubber spoilers would be best? You're saying bolted on but you used self tapping screws? I think my biggest concern generally would be wrecking the front bumper if hitting the splitter.
Yes. It’s a little hard to explain. Honestly with it being fiberglass, and the way C5’s are produced, most likely yours is gonna fit up to the bumper in different ways than mine did. So what I would do if I were you is once you get the splitter, have 2 or 3 buddies over to help hold it up in different areas because the more hands the better when installing this thing!
Mine didnt over heat but the car definitely stayed hot, my car is also on lowering bolts so that might have also be a problem. I'll probably raise it back up and see if anything changes.
Not a fan of the splitter but to each his own as they say. Were you able to get the complete air dam assembly back on after removing it? Looks like you left the center part off which protects the underside of the car when the underside scapes the pavement. It used to FREAK ME OUT when that happened until I found out that the air dam prevents the front underside from being scratched up.

Splitter looks good, you did a good job with it. Is it made of fiberglass or is it a duraflex material? Mines actually fiberglass made by ACI and it doesn't flex or give at all like yours does. Mine is also one that is open in the middle for airflow. Another think I did is I also left the corner pieces off, but I did that just because I think it looks better without them. How are your temps doing on the car with it installed? I would think it would be okay as that splitter doesn't go down that far into the air stream for the radiator.
Looks like it would scrape on every little thing, I would rather keep it stock - doesn’t look great imo. Love everything else you’ve done though, sweet C5
I have a c5 and I love it tons but if you can find a good deal on a c6 I'd definitely take it opposed to a c5. Avoid the 1997 for the c5 and 2005 for c6, owned both and they had much more problems than the later years.
No hate towards you or anyone else but I've always been amazed at how many Corvette owners do so many mods to their car. Like the stock C5 isn't beautiful enough. People just have to keep adding and adding to it. No one is ever pleased it seems.

I had a silver C5. Thought it looked fantastic. Have a C6 ZR1 now. Not so sure that the ZR1 style splitter looks ok on the C5 with its svelte lines.

I have a C7 Carbon, Carbon Fiber ZR1 splitter on mine. It looks awesome & I haven’t had any overheating issues.
