The video was shot at Dilston Grove, one of CGP London's 2 galleries in the heart of Southwark Park in south London. CGP is an artist-led gallery founded in 1984 by The Bermondsey Artists' Group.
They commission major artworks by artists at all stages of their career. It's a vital part of London's art scene offering space and support that no-one else can across two stunning galleries.
Its an amazing cavernous raw space that hosts a lot of performance, music and live art. They rent it out in between shows to get the crucial funding they need to keep supporting artists. There's nowhere quite like it!
Dilston is one of the first poured concrete structures in the UK, built in 1909 by Cambridge University. It had been derelict since the 60s until the gallery took it on. There'd been a mission church on that site since 1896 after Bishop of Rochester, Edward Stuart TALBOT decided Cambridge should have a post in South London to support the poor.

IDLES - purchased. Hey, what’s the significance of smashing the Hummels & China? I hope they didn’t belong to your mothers’!
Aachen Weinachtsmarkt - yup it's one of the best ;O/Seriously though, Idles have helped in a small way to renew my faith in humanity at a time when the world is going to shit. See you in Dusseldorf on Sat. Safe travels.
This whole fucking album bangs!
Fuck...you guys are fucking good................oh wow
@Major Seven No. They are anti-asshole. Hint; you are one.
Joe's mom died, and his daughter. He's trying to tell blokes to talk about their feelings instead of bottling it in like men do. Otherwise they will get worse mentally. The band are so influential to people that understand. Legends 👍
Love this but I didn’t understand,I’m getting there
I got that from the video. I wonder if that's his mum's actual Nik naks? If so, what a great send off.
My husband bottled up his mental health a long time and by the time I'd explained that men can show hurt too he'd died from alcoholism June 1st. But he loved Idles in his last few weeks
Nadia, that is so upsetting and I'm truly sorry for your loss. I wish you all the best in the future. Men are so bad at talking about their feelings, including me. Which needs to change.
I appreciate it 🧡 and theres a reason why - for some reason it's taboo for men to cry or show emotions. Misogyny has not just destroyed women, it's destroyed its own kind. I'm hopefully gonna get involved with some male therapy groups soon, like help them get set up. We need to break the stigma. Also there's good father's losing custody of their children. For the same stigma that men are all dominant and brutish and they HAVE to be. God forbid a man shows his natural human vulnerability. So don't blame yourself
When I found out about how they're trying to destroy toxic masculinity I liked them even more.
You can be a "man" without buying into bullshit male stereotypes. I've known that for years.
Glad to see a band that knows the same and isn't afraid to say it.
I love the sincere anger and pure emotion in his voice. A lot of "angry" sounding songs sound fake to me, but this is it unfiltered.
death grips too
This is real anger
Bad song

@@saveoursandwich I was about to take your answer seriously until I remembered that you like this song and band
When you listen to these lyrics as a woman, it's...something else. Not a song you think of as a tearjerker, but here we are.
“ men are scared women will laugh in their face. Women are scared it’s their lives that we’ll take”
This guy is right fucking on it ❤️
This is shortened version of a quote from Margaret Atwood's lecture, she is most well known for writing "The Handmaid's Tale". In her original lecture, she said "Why do men feel threatened by women?' I asked a male friend of mine... 'men are bigger, most of the time, they can run faster, strangle better, and they have on the average a lot more money and power.' 'They are afraid women will laugh at them,' he said... I asked some women students in a quickie poetry seminar I was giving, 'Why do women feel threatened by men?' 'They're afraid of being killed."
@@mumintrollable instead, everyone of us (the mens) are just brutes killers who only joy with th misery of others? That's the point? As men we no feel, we no think? Great deconstruction dude.
@@mandrespallares6930 Your reading comprehension sucks the quote is stating that women have a lot more to be scare about form men who may hurt them then vice versa. If anything you thinking that this quote refers to you that’s sus as fuck.
@@chrisr1091 ujumm so, it reinforce my point, it is just we as men only know the language of brutalism... that point of view put ourselves as animals, if you can't process it as a argue, dude it is your problem.
@@mandrespallares6930 dude obviously your average man is bigger then a woman. Most women are careful around us the same way a normal person is careful around a horse. Most men aren’t violent psychos like most horses won’t blow your brains out with their back legs but I’m still going to not just run up and smack a horses ass and test it like how a woman isn’t going to just be straight and rejected a dude when she isn’t in a public place. Should women not protect themselves just to save your feelings?
My mum passed too soon too. As a kid I would fall asleep to the sound of her sewing machine. Sometimes that sound is still there in my dreams. Go easy, be gentle, make something new everyday.
shut that face
"Men are scared women will laugh in their face
Whereas women are scared it's their lives men will take"
Deep message here
It‘s a Margaret Atwood quote. A powerfull one
Despite the fact that men are more likely to suffer violence from all fronts, and are given no sympathy (or are considered lying). And then they're laughed at afterwards.
@@Geminilion100 where does that violence you refer to come from? Women? Don't think so.
@@AdieBadie Do you think women are incapable of violence? For example, a child is more likely to be abused by their mother than their father. And most occurrences of domestic violence are started by a female aggressor.
@@Geminilion100 look, the stats are out there. Don't play the victim here. If you don't want to analyze real facts and assert that women are way more likely to suffer sexual violence and experience sexism throughout their lives, there's nothing more I can explain to you. I'm not waisting my time trying to convince someone who does not want to see reality

Never has a band ever so consistently hit the nail on the head for me. Brave, kind, and aggressively progressive.
The 500 people who disliked are the disgruntled Antiques Roadshow UK viewers.
Or maybe they're expressing their opinion (people do this from time to time, and it's perfectly ok)
@@reddmecker2588 It isn't, especially if it's not very informed, and even more especially if they do it publicly.
@@electrizer Since when was it not ok to express your opinion?? I guess you'd prefer to live in a world where everyone likes what you like, not me thanks! That would be extremely dull
@@reddmecker2588 Frankly, don't we already live in such world? Everyone lives in their own echo chambers, reading stuff that resonates with their view, talking to people who agree with them, and we've come to hate and vilify people who disagree with us instead of talking to them. Welcome to today! What I'd like to see is a world where everybody would just do their part of bettering the world through bettering themselves and just shut the fuck up about trying to repair the world and other people's lives with what they have to say. An opinion is like an ass - everybody has their own but you don't have to show it to people.
@@electrizer Sure, there's a lot of that stuff about. But personally no, I don't live in such a world. You don't have to give in to that kind of crap. Yes, you're right, people don't HAVE to express their opinion, but they are free to do so. I'm not trying to be a dick, I was genuinely surprised that you'd think it not ok for an individual to express their views

@Archie Archdale it's a lyric from the song
@Archie Archdale I think that line is pointing out that misogyny is pervasive all through society, including how we are taught and the things we are taught, the foundation for views that can lead to sexual violence. The 'our' does not specifically mean the books *you* personally read.
@Archie Archdale Thanks!

Check out the band Squid if you haven't! They're a post-punk band from Brighton. As for a US equivalent to IDLES, check out the post-punk band Protomartyr. IDLES have named them as an influence and they're my favorite band going.
First band I've sat up and listened to in a long time.
Your songs say so much by saying very little. Impressive.
Couldn't agree more - in around three minutes this song pretty much identifies all the key issues in the UK currently:
- Overworked/underpaid populace
- Society/Political imbalance
- Dumbing down
- Sexual violence
Which shows that you don’t need to be well read thick head to create a song that has a lot of semantic intent and that’s just using simple language alone
Punk at its best.

One of the best punk bands to come out of the UK
We were told not to cry because the parents didn't want to deal with our emotions because they can deal.woth their own.
You were told to shut up when you had feelings. Told you we're still a child if you cried. And children have no agency or existence in that environment. So you shut up and hide those feelings in the hopes of being an adult with more agency.
And that repressed emotion turns to resentment towards the ones hiding the feelings. Your parents and yourself.
Don't listen to your unloved parents and love yourself. Your feelings matter. Kids matter just as much as adults. When you talk to their parents in a group setting don't ignore the kid on their arm. They are a human just the same respect then just the same.
I love this style of punk! Please continue making this kind of music.
I didn't even know this is what punk could be. Love it.
They say there not punk and to stop calling them punk... but it truly is the best punk I've ever herd.
So I have no idea what to call em
That’s the most punk thing they could have said
Joseph Terry theyre post-punk really - I think they call themselves that in whatever video it is where they review chocolate milk and buy St Patrick’s day costumes
I can recommend you Metz they play some similiar punk stuff
No joke, I've listened to this song repeatedly since it came out, excellent job, looking forward to that album
Peter Hanes Lol, why would you have to specify that you aren't joking about listening to a song repeatedly
Comedy is subjective?
Peter Hanes Except the phrase 'No joke' is less about comedy and more about explaining that you are being serious about something.
It's a silly phrase on my part, it's like saying "real talk" or something, I love this song, I'm still listening to it on repeat, best song I've heard in a long time
i interpret the 'no joke' to mean that you have actually immediately pressed repeat every time it stopped playing since first listen. which is fair enough, it's a very good song.

My mum is my world. She battled an illness that put her in a coma, that left her having to relearn how to walk, eat, even go to the toilet. After all this, she got up and went back to work as a children's nurse in the NHS. She taught me hard work, how to teach myself when school failed me, and most importantly, to never trust a Tory.
Love you mum x

This album helped me get through losing my mother to cancer and gave me hope that there's an audience for the music I make too. Truly the most important punk band of our generation
Nah
I feel awake for the first time in years.
This is a snarling assault on conventional western society. Everything about it is so good--the explosion of grief paired with a ferocious rhythm, the sardonic and biting social commentary, the concise and pointed lyrics and imagery they elicit, the visceral bass-driven musicality of the damn thing, all illustrated in a metaphor packed video that itself is a work of art. It is good stacked upon good, piled on top of good, over a mound of good.
It shocks and inspires and incites.
Pretty much right on point
But why do you need to say this?
Like who the fuck are you?
Why the fuck not? If this bothers you you need to find a different band and different genre

Surely that's the best way to become a Tory, they're on your side once you get rich. Don't listen to this kids. The best way to scare a Tory is to READ and ORGANISE!
joeo62 I think they mean when you read and get rich they don't have as much of a sway on your life and it scares them.
you are neglecting the follow up line " i know nothing Im just sitting here looking at pretty colors" which is why your idea that they're on your side is improbable. They poor are always stuck at the bottom if they aren't wildly successful artists because they don't have the opportunities the rich do.
The best way to scare a Tory is to vote Corbyn (not Labour, mindya). If that doesn't work, some bankers' heads on London Bridge might do.
Samuel Antics The line "I know nothing, I'm just sitting here looking at pretty colors" refers to someone who didn't follow the advice, and is trapped in an endless stream of shallow entertainment instead of working on improving their life. To become a wildly successful artist is hardly the only way to get out of poverty, that's just ridiculous.
