  • My design for Medusa :D
I wanted to try something different from the usual yellow eyes, green skin and fangs Medusa, so I had this inspiration from albino snakes! This worked pretty well with what I was going for, with the red eyes and white skin (that kinda looks like stone), I think she looks way more dangerous this way. I tried to give her an intimidating aura, but not in a way it'd take away her beauty and humanity.
I'll post a full body version of her design on Tumblr later, as well as a design for Perseus. So check it out! :D

Reminder : medusa was born a monster In greek mythology and the tragic backstory that involves Athena and Poseidon was written by a roman poet who wanted to make the gods look like jerks (more than they already were but still) for political reasons

thank you! it is, however, still important to know that there is no “true canon” when it comes to mythology and thus, it changes over time
(still hate ovid for going for my girl athena though lol)

      Thank you for saying this!
Honestly Ovid was a real jerk for remaking already existing myths (where the gods weren't evil) and then trying to make them as unlikeable as possible, all because he had authority issues (I believed he was exiled).
Like why'd he have to do that? Now most people think bad about Poseidon (who never hurts Medusa in Greek mythology and it's actually NEPTUNE) and Athena (when it actually MINERVA, who Ovid made petty despite it being uncharacteristic and not making sense as a part of the greater mythology canon).

To be honest, it would’ve been more accurate if Athena gifted Medusa to help protect herself. I saw a few youtube shorts recreating the story of Medusa like this. This is just my opinion though.

@@melaniehammers7757 (this is going to be long and may not make total sense, my apologies) yeah but that's a made up modern feminist interpretation/retelling of a Roman myth in which Minerva (not Athena, nor Poseidon is in this) has no intention of helping Medusa (besides I highly doubt Ovid of all people, who basically wrote a SA fanfic from a Greek myth that had no SA because he was petty, would write a deity [especially female cause it was ancient times] as good cause that would mean he was ok with authority).
So if we're talking about ancient Greek mythology that is actually the furthest from accurate.
Ovid's version of Minerva does have her uncharacteristically petty though and Ovid's versions don't make sense to the greater mythology cannon. Basically Ovid is just as inaccurate to the greater mythology, as the feminist interpretation is.
Honestly the most accurate to Greek mythology Medusa myth is really the oldest one (from the theogony, one of the oldest sources of ancient Greek mythology and the accepted cannon origin). Where Athena is not petty and Medusa is not cursed for some stupid reason and is instead born a goron. Plus the gorgon version of Medusa perfectly explains the existence of her gorgon sisters, while the "she was cursed" have no good explanation (I've seen people say "they were gorgon but Medusa was human" which makes no sense considering they are full sisters. That or "oh they got cursed too", cursed for what?).
Also side note: many myth Channels are very inaccurate, especially shorts. Unless they say the sources, like the metamorphoses (the SA Roman myth, that the feminist interpretation comes from) or theogony (one of the oldest Greek mythology sources and is the main source for the origin of Greek mythology, has the "Medusa was born a gorgon" myth). I also highly advise against channels like "See U in History/Mythology", they get a lot wrong and dramatist myths.
TDLR: if we're talking about ancient Greek mythology the "Athena helped a victim of SA" is actually the furthest from accurate. Because it is a modern made up interpretation; of an already made up ROMAN interpretation, made by a guy who hates authority (and likely woman, I mean the guy did write about horrible things happening to them and other women making it worse on them); of whose stories doesn't make sense to the greater myth canon. Oldest Greek myth of Medusa though doesn't have Athena as bad and does make more sense to the greater myth canon.
If you are confused, please be specific about which part and I will try and reexplain but differently

I like how she's white and red, very different from the other Medusa's, the colour of her skin gives of like a marble statue
    I love this ❤❤❤

This design feels more like the Medusa who was born a Gorgon rather than cursed, she has this self-assured gaze and pose in this piece. Amazing as always :)
