tarik videos are a good example of optimal extended highlight videos because idk who the editor is but he kinda nuts at giving the entire pug context and interesting gameplay i dont know if that editing is possible with tf2 pugs but the quality is great and content is plentiful without just posting a twitch vod and got me interested in a completely new game because of the quality. Otherwise you end up with a stigma of low quality whereas i always click a tarik video for a 15 minute highlight, if he just posted full pugs i would not watch those. quality > quantity to a certain degree
there's not much downtime in tf2 as there is in csgo. Cutting out downtime in tf2 would be annoying to viewers because it would just be occasionally cutting out like 30 seconds of choke holding.
That's true but people can make inferences based on what just happened, tarik videos don't show setting up smokes and buying weapons in spawn, and they often don't show the end of lost rounds and might skip around the uninteresting parts of the pug but you can still know what happened because of the score at the top or they skip to the end of rounds. TF2 you could skip up to 9 rollouts a game and if you roll a mid you could skip to them about to push in through gullywash river or something. You could also skip the holding choke as you said as long as nothing interesting happens. For example, if tarik was holding a flank push or just watching an angle at the start of round it would be skipped if he doesn't see anyone, but if he does then it would show the kill. The same thing can be done even better with stalemates in tf2. If you are just stalemating and spamming and the sacks are uninteresting (no sick airshots) then you could skip it and people would still know you're in same situation. Whereas, if you get a successful sack you skip to that part. If these extended highlights are not going to become normal than what i said can be disregarded, but I think it would be easier to make a video directing them to the twitch vods where they can watch pugs to their heart's content with source quality and not have to wait on shounic to put on youtube but no ad monies so maybe that is why which is understandable

Most of these videos are the result of twitch clips being posted in the Discord server, or if Shounic's around to watch the stream and he clips selected moments that he's gonna put in the video. Sometimes nothing clip worthy happens in casual, that's why you don't see it as often.
