Honestly just use rag curls overnight for tight curls. Or thin braids overnight for that crimped texture. This is such a slow method for this kind of result.

If we're following the general method for very long hair, maybe a wooden dowel or a rolling pin would work? Even some cooking chopsticks might work. I think you'd have trouble fitting a rolling pin in a hair iron though
