    This breakdown does not include the additional $28.14 that we made every hour that went towards our benefits (pensions, health care savings, etc). This video is just the wages alone ⚡️

    TLDR: 143k a year gross w/ benefits, 96k a year net.

    We need a video of " the day of electrician" like how hard is that job, what you are doing in the day, what's the average hours you spend for travelling, do you work under rains in OR because it's raining all the winter! And so on.

    In Québec it's 43,89/hour for a total of 2000$/Week. After all deduction the NET is 964$/week. 😢😢

      Yowza! That seems pretty low. I don’t know off the top of my head what our market share is here but I do know it’s considerably higher than that.

      You can find out what your Local’s market share is by giving them a call. They should have a pretty good idea of what it is.

      @@MadElectrician it hurts. We still have the highest wages in Canada (LU353) but our cost of living is crazy. I’ll put it this way:
      We make on par with what New York makes:
      We have $50.63 an hour and New York local 3 makes $60 or so.
      Now it’s not a huge difference but our cities have very similar cost of Living to wage, however the American dollar stretches so much further.
      A VETO tech pac costs about $400 CAD, but $300 USD.
      So not only do we make a similar wage but things are cheaper in America. And your dollar is worth 30% more. It’s so crazy.

    I always make less then my coworkers per year because i go back home in mex 2-3 times a year. Im happier that way

      Life’s definitely about more than just making as much money as you can. I think you should always choose happiness over a bigger paycheck.

    I’m an 1st year apprentice about to be 2nd year in a month working non union with a company that is paying for my schooling should I go union eventually? I don’t understand the positives and negatives with that stuff as I always hear different things from people.

      Yeah, I know Local 280 isn’t quite up to par with Local 48. What are your JW wages out there right now?

    Do most IBEW electricians have weekends and holidays off?? Just asking cause I’m really interested in becoming an electrician but having weekends off would be great

      Yes that’s why they pay so highly is to avoid working overtime and weekends but they will be some companies that will work overtime/ weekends but you are nicely compensated if you do

    Do union electricians travel a lot? That's the only thing keeping me from applying...union folks in Boston travel out of state a bunch. I dont want to travel because i have a family to get home to!

    hello ibew 213 red seal here, been non union since 2016, recently been accepted by ibew, starting my job next week, I heard I have to be slow and just be act a bit lazier compare to non union so the team wont hate me and stab me from the back, is that true? 7 years in the non union, i was told to always hustle, but now as a union, my friend said i should never do that, otherwise they will call me a shop rocket or some shit, very confused...

    Local 11 pay their Journeymen $61.80 an hour, got to love that CA pay rate.

      I'm also journeyman for electrician, but unofficial.I have not diploma for electrician. Now in Moscow i earn about 750$ per month including deductions for patent (certificate for a migrants from Central Asia)

    I applied to my local union as an apprentice like 5 months ago and still havent heard a word from them, any clue why?

      I would call or email them to follow up. There could be a lot of reasons, but they’ll give you an idea of what’s going on if you ask.

      No it does not! That was an additional $28.14/ hr that went towards all of those benefits. I’m not sure where I can get access to see how much that all came out to be at the end of the year. I’ll try to see if I can find that though!

      Yes, they have a small market share and you will get layoff too much!! And the average salaries are not so different like it's not a big deal. Better to join to union states like CA, WA, OR, IL

      Our cost of living is pretty high here in the Portland, Oregon area (I don’t live in Portland but I’m still in this jurisdiction). We’re also fortunate to have a strong union with a lot of market share.
