TRANSCRIPT: Secret recording of Charlie Adelson released, led to arrest in Dan Markel murder case

- Nearly eight years after FSU law professor Dan Markel was gunned down in his Tallahassee garage by hired hitmen, his former brother-in-law Charlie Adelson has been arrested in connection with his brazen, broad daylight murder.
Florida State Attorney Jack Campbell said newly enhanced audio from a secret recording done at a South Florida restaurant led to Adelson’s arrest.
The so-called Dulce Vida recording, taken in 2016 by FBI agents at the Miami restaurant of the same name, captures a conversation between Adelson and his former girlfriend Katherine Magbanua, in which they allegedly discuss undercover agents approaching his mom about Markel’s shooting. Prosecutors say the conversations detail the chain of information flow about the murder conspiracy.
Up until recently, when the audio was enhanced by a specialist, much of the conversation was inaudible.

Charlie clearly never fully developed into a man. Not only because of the way he treats women but his interactions in general. Laughing out loud in court whenever he hears a swear word. When Cappleman asked if he paid for the breast augmentation, his response was "No I did not pay for a boob job." Who says that anywhere, let alone in court? He thinks Dave is the coolest because his nephew "farted on his head". He's barely past adolescence. And Donna had her man-child son plan and execute a murder for her. HUGE MISTAKE. She put the lives of her family in the hands of a man-child who can never ever shut up, no matter how hard he tries. Not the kind of guy you want to commit a crime with. He cannot shut up.
He always was a bossy, over-assured guy, telling everyone how things really happen,, but his own arrogance was his undoing.
I don't understand why some commenters say that there's no evidence on this tape. I mean, the fact that they aren't totally confused by the whole bump incident is really damning. If they weren't involved, they would find the bump incident to be a complete mystery. These guys clearly know why they are being asked for money--they just don't know whether it's the cops setting them up or the killers blackmailing them. But either way, it's because they did it.
I don’t see much evidence on the tape either.
This is a treasure trove, and you can write part of a probable cause affidavit off it.
How easy it was for Charlie to tell Katie what words to say before giving the “charity.” How easy it was for Charlie to say, if he keeps talking, they have to Kill the King.
He plays the tough guy, all knowing, the maestro.
“If, they f- - k with my family, I’ll go Nazi on them.” All the while, proclaiming he doesn’t know anything, and having Katie be the go between, once again.
If they were innocent they wouldn’t even be talking about it!! They probably wouldn’t even be together
The people who say they don’t see evidence on this tape recording are under the belief that “dead man tells no tales” a person who kills another thinks that no one saw him did the crime therefore there is nothing to worry about. Evidence is gathered from what you said and did before,and after the crime. There is plenty of evidence in this conversation. Charlie even went as far as providing a hypothetical example by inserting Katie with “if when a person sitting in his car and something happens, doesn’t prove what she said she saw was what happened”; he said “she can’t prove anything that she may have said” That’s speaking of the driver vs the other guy in the car. Here Charlie is suspecting that the driver of the car is who the bump was referring. Katie knows exactly who Tatu is but she is not making Charlie any wiser.
The state should have arrested and charged Charlie before they did Katie. They should have insulated Katie and tried her after Charlie was convicted. That’s when all the cockroaches would’ve been flushed out, mother, father, sister in their attempt to save Charlie.

It always blew my mind for years how everyone in this case was arrested except for the masterminds. Glad they are finally taking down this family though. Wendi and Mommy Dearest will likely be next to be charged. They all deserve to rot in prison.

Everyone kept asking why in the world haven't they arrested the Adelsons yet. The thing is you only have one shot at prosecuting someone. One chance, so you better have all the proof you possibly can ready before charging someone and that's what the prosecution did. They waited quietly but they have him now.

They arrested and charged him. They haven't convicted him so don't celebrate too much yet. I mean after all, OJ was acquitted and it took 3 trials to convict Dalia Dippolito even when they had her on video ordering the hit on her husband.

For someone that thinks they are so smart they are having a conversation like this out in the open, in a public restaurant. Thank God for dumb criminals!!
Actually it occurring in public makes this harder! All the extraneous noise really screws up the recording since you can barely hear his voice without turning up the volume, which turns up all the other recorded noises from background music to bumps on the table. The recording has already used audio enhancement to make his voice a little easier to understand, but I still can’t hear it in a clear manner. This makes it harder to prosecute since some potential jurors on a grand jury probably couldn’t understand all the words he uttered in this conversation.
I’m not saying they’re criminal masterminds, but there’s a reason this case has taken so damn long; these people are very deliberate/malicious regarding what actions they’ve taken to obfuscate what they’ve allegedly done. Most of these types of cases I’ve observed would’ve been concluded by now. Instead, we’re stuck in court hoping the cops/FBI got their ducks in a row to finally bring this case to a proper conclusion.
This happened, because of the mistrial. The original wasn't good quality! And now 2 years later, it is!

He's not a good orthodontist and usually they send the horrible nurses, doctors and dentist to prison so he fits right in, he sold his father business back to him because he was giving the business a bad name and as his colleague said that's why he was a traveling orthodontist he pissed off a lot of people.

He also said he didn’t have any thing to do with it. So do you believe what he says in one part of the video but then say he’s lying in another part of the video? My only point here is that this video is not the great price if evidence everyone thinks it is. And most of the video is inaudible. The first 30 minutes were not transcribed because it was inaudible. There are significant parts of sentences that are inaudible. Relying on poor evidence is a good way to lose a case.

Dan's parents need to see justice soon, not in several more years. They are already elderly. Hopefully this happens in their lifetime. They also need to able to reintroduce the boys back to their side of the family and tell them about their father. I hope more arrests are done in unison and quickly, following the re-trial conviction. those boys are not in good Hands. I hope law enforcement is looking at it from that angle too. That family could easily do something disastrous rather than face prison and admit guilt.

Did you hear anything that implicated Wendi? It's sounds like the only people that knew beforehand were him, his mother and the "hit crew". He more or less exonerated his father and definitely didn't put Wendi in harm's way either.

She also happened to drive by the crime scene the man who killed Danny said he met up with her. So no I didn't hear anything but if you think a brother is going to just hire someone to kill his sister's ex husband without her being involved go ahead and believe that. I personally don't believe she is wasn't part of it. That is just my opinion.

The question is with this new evidence will the cops be able to convince her to take a deal and turn witness in order to get out one day to be with her kids again. Her verdict won’t hang a second time with this new evidence so if she has any hope of getting out she’d start talking. This is great news but will they ever get Wendy and mom? @@lh98 there is no new evidence in the video. Katie says next to nothing that is audible. incomplete sentences not likely to be admissible. The transcription was by someone who decided to write what she heard. the cops never offered her a deal. Katie was interviewed and told them what she knew. Katie will be a better jury this trial. The first trial was with a death penalty qualified jury. The jury will be more favorable to her. There may be evidence here against charlie but not on her.

This guy would frame his brother (who has distanced himself from the family) for the murder, just like Wendi would frame her BF during her interrogations. If you do a "deep dive" into the family dynamics, allegedly the Adelsons had meddled with Robert's (the older son's) marriage - he wanted to marry a woman of Indian ethnicity who was an ER doc. Well, since she wasn't Jewish (ironically, b/c Dan was apparently "too Jewish" for the Adelsons), the Adelson's didn't approve of the union. He broke up with his ER doc gf to marry a Jewish woman - and that marriage lasted all of 6 months! After his divorce, he got back together with the Indian woman who was an ER physician and they're married now & have kids. After that - I believe that is what caused Rob Adelson MD to cut all ties with his family.

One scene was of the prosecutor asking Katie M. about the conversation at Dolce vita with him.

Divorce works, emotions calm , an a new normal soon develops.. so horrible that these entitled people thought to just eliminate someone for their own comfort an happiness. Not to mention, at the trial where Wendi’s ex boyfriend testified (the guy that she stopped dating because he found out that she was cheating), he SAID that she told him about wanting to have Dan Markel killed and constantly spoke about Dan! He was another professor as well, so we aren’t talking about some bum trying to get involved for money. This is a well respected professor she was dating that stated that she spoke to him about wanting Dan killed. That is also evidence against her. I don’t care if it’s circumstantial, it’s all obvious that they had him killed, and he and his parents deserve justice. The children I feel the worst for because they should be brought up by Dan’s grandparents, NOT a psychopath for a mother.

@T: Unless I missed something I don’t think there’s any reliable evidence that Donna paid for the murder, just speculation. In any case, the amount was allegedly only $100,000 total which Charlie could easily have paid out of his own pocket, so I think a case against Donna would be extremely difficult to prove.

My brother is in a horrible custody battle and divorce. We are all keeping messages , Emails, and voice mails from the ex wife (who coincidentally is a lawyer). She has become unhinged and unhappy.
Good thing almost no one is like this family. Custody is horrible, but most people don't engage in murder for hire.
Young men thinking about starting a family have no idea what divorce, custody, child visitation, child support, human nature, state laws are about. They don't understand that they have a 60% chance of this occurring.

what makes absolutely no sense whatsoever to me is why would he risk losing his freedom for ever over his sisters marital and child custody issues? Everybody loves their sister nieces and nephews but who would turn their life upside down to kill someone over normal everyday feuds divorcing people go through on a regular basis!

The issue of custody was no small problem as the Adelsons lived 7 hours from the grandkids. So they went from hardly being in their lives to basically having them there full time. People kill for far less.
