A single young Triceratops is the only one of her clutch to hatch. Her mother must lead her only child through the wonderous but dangerous Cretaceous landscape.
I love dinosaurs. I've loved dinosaurs for as long as I can remember. Dinosaurs appear in nearly every single one of my animated shorts in one form or another, so I honestly think it was only a matter of time before I created a dedicated short about them!
I stuck to a simple premise and a strong theme. This short is the most fun I've had animating in a while. I don't think I'll ever tire of bringing dinos to life. I'm particularly proud of the colour-palette in this short. It's striking and pulpy and I tried to tell a lot of the story through the colour-choices and colour-changes.
Hope you guys enjoy this one! ^_^
This is a re-upload. My original video had sound effects from the video game, "The Isle". I have now replaced them with my own sound effects.
EDIT: Apparently, a bunch of people have told me that I missed one at the end when the T.Rex yawns so I checked the file and they're right. I'm an idiot. I'm not reuploading this a third time to remove less than 2 seconds of sound though (a sound effect which is edited and mixed with another). I've tried to get Dondi's permission/attention but he doesn't seem to care. Go check out the Isle or whatever.

I got goosebumps
😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Why?
Just imagine a newborn. With teeth. That are sharp.
Same
They aren’t evil, there is no malicious intent. They were just born, with sharp teeth.
I love dinosaur animations like this, they’re so calming, because they show Dino’s as animals rather than monsters
I know but people usually treat Dino’s as monsters
It shows them as mothers, too.
Some are monsters
@@thatonekid5720 what do you mean?
Will Anthonio Zeppeli
He probably means the carnivores, but I think the original commenter liked the short because the carnivore had a reason to kill.
I remember someone asking a child which runs for its life, the tiger or the deer? The child said it was obviously the deer. The child was corrected, for both animals were running for their lives. The deer runs to avoid being eaten and the tiger runs so it may eat.
Who asks a child that?
@カモメcheegulls touche
Lol i was very confused. Was thinking, that someone asked a question to a child, that is running for its life xD
And now the kid is running too because the man is trying to persuade the child to step into his van.
It makes perfect sense. People are quick to villain-ize carnivores - sharks, wolves, hyenas and crocodiles are infamously painted as ruthless, mindless, man-eating monsters - but the reality is they didn't ask for their lives to be fuelled by the deaths of other creatures. Unlike humans, who notoriously kill other humans and animals for reasons completely unrelated to survival - things like revenge, blackmail, sport or even just the hell of it - animals mostly kill because, well, they HAVE to.
If that shark doesn't eat that "cute-and-cuddly seal", it might starve to death, a far more painful end than simply being gobbled up. If that tiger doesn't catch the deer, it could be in for a worse fate than the deer would get; at least the tiger would kill it quickly. This short does an amazing job showing that: Predators aren't monsters, just animals making their way in the world with the hand they were dealt and the natural tools they were given. Not malicious or sadistic, but *simply born with sharp teeth.*

I freaking love this!
The feathers, the colors, how accurate is the anatomy, how you treat them like animals and not like monsters, the animation, the narrator, ...
I LOVE IT.
From a biologist specialized in paleontology how makes paleoart. THIS IS PURE GOLD.
Natalia Dino-drawer i love the message. but, if you‘re specialised in paleontology, why are you not mentioning the carnivore in this scenario that doesn‘t have feathers? it‘s theropod that looks to be closely related to tyrannosaurus, that means it most likely would have feathers in at least one stage of its life.
@@rokukou Hi!
Good question!
Due to the last studies it's likely T.rex and other tyrannosaurid had feathers. However, its likely T.rex wasn't completly covered in them. So, although we can agree baby T.rex should be covered in feathers, adult could be partialy covered or with little feathers like fur in elephants.
In fact, in the video we can see another theropods with feathers which I see they are Maniraptora representants like ornithomimid or troodontids (I remember).
So, although we can discuss if this video could be more accurate, for me the intention have a greater value.
I mean, how many times could we see dinosaurs portrayed as animals and not just killing machines? It's an image the public has absorbed and it's quite hard to show them how these animals really were. As a little scientist disseminator, I have encontered so many times with the Jurassic Park dogma of "bloody thirsty angry monsters". So, this animations and paleoarts helped us A LOT to teach people how really these animals behave. Think about it. There will be always a new study that change the apearance of a fossil creature, but how the public look at them seeing them as animals and not monsters, that is very appreciated.
I hope I answered your question. 😊
Natalia Dino-drawer you did, thank you. and i agree completely. ugh, don’t even get me started on jurassic park. thank you for being respectful!
@@rokukou You're welcome. 😊
@@dinodrawer4658 I thought they just discovered that T. rex did in fact not have feathers. The skin imprints show scales, and there would be no logical reason for a T. rex to have feathers. Although they may have had feathers on some parts they were definitely not covered in them.

This gives me chills, and I've never stopped returning to it, even 4 years after discovering it. It's just true. Carnivores are not evil; simply born with sharp teeth. Born to either hunt others, or die.
This animation shows, that not all who are percieved evil are evil.
Evil As a concept depends on relative perspective.
Evil is relative to different people who see it, but to the triceratops mom that was absolutely evil. Hence tribal instincts: sometimes circumstances force you to make a decision of who lives and who dies but you will always, always want the survivors to be _your_ family. That's life.
Yeah as a kid i thought...
'Wait if the evil guys are the evil guys

Agreed. Evil is a thing that humans invent and project onto humans and animals. It's not an inbuilt part of the universe.
@@cthulhufhtagn2483 I dunno, there are some things that are evil, like an ideology that says "You can't hurt people" as well as "Those other humans are outsiders, they are not people.". Damned evil to "Other" another human and outright permit their murder just because they are unbelievers of that ideology, no?
@@blunderingfool Not exactly. We humans empathize with other humans. Therefore we don't want other humans being killed, therefore we don't like people or groups that kill other humans. It's something that we consider bad. That doesn't mean it's inbuilt into the universe that it's evil. If it were, parasites and predators wouldn't exist.

I really like the colors. You used an alternating complementary pattern to show duality, and that was visually symbolic and pleasing. I would still hate to be on the receiving end of those sharp teeth, though, despite the message of survival.
I bet the beef I had for dinner would have hated to know what it has become as well. Life is so full of pain and death.
@Yowatsapp 05
*Some plants can feel their selves being eaten.*
*And some animals still move even though they are considered* "dead"
This video really shows how good and evil sometimes are relative concepts: we all think about the preys as victims and predators as evil monsters (like in The Land Before Time) but the truth is the Mother Tyrannosaurus didn't kill the young Triceratops for cruel pleasure but for necessity of raising her children.
Herbivores want and fight to live...and so carnivores do.
@Dino Z I agree with you, I was not saying differently.
The concept of good and evil itself is flawed. There are simply opposing forces, and while they may commit atrocities against each other, they will usually not do so among their own faction. If one were ever to wipe the other out completley, the losers would probably call the "evil" if you asked them, but left without an opponent, the winners would become peacful.
Good and evil are human concepts, not universal factors. So they exist, but only subjectivley. The universe rids itself of things that don't abide it's rules, so on the rare occaisions when "true good" or "true evil" does arise, it never lasts.
It's the story of the hen into the wild
@DinoTheDragonet yep , it's why hunters hate Disney Bambi yet everybody is ok shopping meat or killing pests ( goose , wild pigs )
@@justusb.plorer8773 There is good and evil, but as concepts they really only apply to how humans behave towards one another. How nature behaves cannot be described as good or evil.

Showing this video to my student and one of my student was crying so hard! Its amazing to see how they are expressed their own emotion and to feel the character of the dino. How great little moment shared with my student over the movie ❤️ Its a really great short film 👍
I keep rewatching this animation simply because of how beautiful it is. The narration is really what makes this film. The dinosaurs have feelings but at the same time aren’t human. They’re animals, not monsters as people like to make them. As the mother panics the narration speeds up, selling that feel of terror. Every time that part makes my heart race. Then as the child is taken, the narration stops, which is how it feels in those moments. Everything slows down and it feels like you can do something in that moment, but in truth you can’t. Because while it feels so slow everything is moving just the same and there’s no time to think, or narrate what’s going on. And the final words of this film “simply born with sharp teeth” are just amazing. It’s such a simple phrase and yet it’s perfect.
Again, proof of my favorite animator/storyteller. The finesse you exhibit in your stories, crafting for tales and not cuteness or shock value. So amazing
What a flip of perspective, that plot twist really pulls at the heartstrings

Its an amazing thing that the predators aren't portrayed as evil, of any sort. Just simply living, the way they need to survive. This seeming quite sad at one moment, but showing that for ones sadness is a good, there being no good or bad in these times. Just living, as they said themselves, "The evil has its own young. Evil could these be? I think not, says their mother, simply born with sharp teeth." Combined with the slow, sad, and joyful combined music, it being happy for another, sad for others. But this is survival. These are parts that make this film amazing, well animated, a good narrator, speaking in poems. This is surely one of the best Dinosaur videos you could find on the RUclips. Triceratop: Nani?!?!
Edit* Alright dudes I understand it's Triceratops now, but I ain't changing it. °^°
Omoe wa shinde ru
i shouldn't have laugheD SO HARD
@@fork_salad I'm going to hell for writing it
I hate you so much.
Do you mean triceratops?
That just shows that maybe if someone takes what you do as a evil thing, it doesn’t mean your truthfully evil.
You are amazing! Since the first time you uploaded sharp teeth, I've been re-developing my grade 1 comic( l'm grade 8 now) and l've taken lots of inspiration from your previous works such as "dont feed the freaks" and your videos on how you made your works. You have inspired me to properly illustrate and sculpt instead of just doodling. Please keep doing what you do. 🐉
The amount of feels is to great here. I can't hold it. They might breakdown RUclips... Too late
I love how the mother T-Rex breaks the forth Wall by saying her children are not evil monsters.
I cant remember what my original comment said, but in still adore the use of colors to pull the story further
Ah finally, my recommendations are correct.
I come back to this one quite often, and it makes me tear up every time. The last few lines always get me. I love it very dearly.
I'm going to watch it trice so you get some views, you deserve it
THE HELL IS TRICE?
Once, twice, trice :D
Dylan Waeckje It’s actually “thrice”.
I already made 5 throw-away accounts to artificially inflate the number of likes.
Dylan Waeckje I don’t know why I understood what trice meant but I do
oh my gosh, i remember seeing this before the reupload, but i didnt click to watch... man, i'm glad i did now!! This is so beautiful.... almost like a children's book in motion!
“Simply born with sharp teeth”
I cry
Ohh I Just Loved The Guitar Strumming! It's So Calming.
"Evil carnivore"- every dinosaur movie ever XD. "Its tying to survive it isnt evil" - reality
I adore this animation! The colours design and story. It's an animation that has inspired me in my artistic journey for years now. I'm now in university studying games art and I'm happy to say that I have mentioned and referenced Dead Sound in my 3D Maya class
"Evil, could these be?"
Enough, I can't stop crying
This never gets old. It’s just fantastic!
Dead Sound, thank you for creating this. You’ve inspired me so much with your work.
The line delivery at 1:37 is AMAZING.
I LOVE IT.
Its always showing up in my mind when i least expect it and always come to rewatch this.
The thumbnail art caught my attention, and after watching for third first time I still doubt I can explain how I am blown away by the style of the characters, the backgrounds and the animation 🙌🙌🙌 All AMAZING! the story is simple, sweet and really well put together. The voice of the narrator at first caught me off guard, but as I've watched it it's really quite a charming accent (The accent itself and how it fits to the shortfilm) the music, also, just fits so perfectly.
If I dont stop now I'm not sure if I will
To put it simply, this is an amazing film, your skill and talent are outstanding and as this was the first video I've ever found by you I'm about to explore your page 😅❤ definately subscribing, hope to see more amazing works in the future!
Omg, kay I was wrong! This isnt the first film of yours I've watched. A couple years ago I found your short film(s) about the dystopian world and was amazed! I remember I showed my teachers and especially my social studies teacher loved them. Anyhow I'm not sure why I didnt sub then 😅 am now :3
Have a great day!
@Joshua Scott & proud 😘
i hate it when things call carnivores "mean" or "evil". like dude they just trying to live their life, everythings gotta eat. they gotta kill their prey to eat. other than that, great film :D
i agree but playing "devil's advocate" here, imagine you're the mother and your son was just taken away by a hyena. of course you would be depressed and call the hyena "mean" and "evil" because it took your son. you're not thinking about how the hyena feels in that situation.
@@psycless the hyena may be starving or trying to feed its own babies. Perfectly balanced, as all things should be.
@@bigchungus6853 as i just said, you’re not thinking of the hyenas feelings in that situation. unless you’re a sociopath who doesn’t care about other human beings?
@@psycless us humans should look out for eachother. We're talking about animals here.
@@bigchungus6853 there is no "we". it's just me and you talking. and "i" am giving you a scenario in which you replied that the animal was right in taking your child because it was balanced? "this" is definitely not about animals, it's about us.
I absolutely love how neither creature is evil nor good. It really puts into perspective how there is no such thing as a good war. An endless battle, where no one can truly win. One cannot live in harmony with the other while at the same time they require each other to live. If the carnivore dies then the herbivore never gets eaten, and it would die from overpopulation. And if the herbivore died then the carnivore would die from starvation. So although neither of them could live together in harmony they both require each other for survival of the whole. Kind of like a yin and yang thing.
You are so incredibly creative. I'm glad you got through the hard parts of life and are able to share these things with us. Thank you sir.
This was wonderful. The art, the writing, the reading and the message. I‘m tearing up, very beautiful.
5 years later and this is still one of my favourite animations on the entirety of the internet
I think what's best about this Animation is it starts out portraying the predator as the villain, the "evil", because it's from the perspective of the prey. But it all changes when you look through the predator's eyes.
This is still beautiful and I love it so much. I’m glad your still doing these animations because they make me so happy!! 👍🏻
Am I the only one who keeps coming here every once in a while just to rewatch this piece of art?
Very impressive Work. The Sharpteeth are Monsters for the planteaters but the Planteaters are Monsters for the plants. Both did what ever is necessary to survive.
@Legend of the Blue Macerator But are able to feel pain. And, in there own way, they cry when someone attacks them.
