Hi Anthony what an amazing looking and sounding consist, you certainly had a lot of luck putting this train together. Wishing you and your family a very Happy New Year. Regards Tom
Stunning set, Anthony! Pretty smart move by Mearklin in those days making the chassis on the cars all the same! It may not appeal to the quote unquote "rivet counters", but for those who are on a tight budget, this is a geat platform!
@ivovanzon164 I think it is relative. All secondary and tertiary markets for older metal toys are rising, but I find plenty in the base form (no interior/lights) for @ €10-€15. If the model is a popular one, supply-demand laws come into play
Hi, Andy! Thanks for watching. I think, in trains, especially older companies, 20 years is not a big deal, but never having run for 20+ years... my mechanic days always worry, even if it is not practical to worry.
Beautiful loco and coaches. Truly awesome that given their vintage they run so well. The German manufacturers have always built trains that last. I wish I could say the same about British manufacturers. I was fortunate to travel along the Rhine on a heritage running of this train about 12 years ago. So glad I got the opportunity.
@@Andy1962-in-Kinross Well, someday I will try to make time for it. We have train trips across the USA and Canada we want to do someday, and we are planning a Caledonian Sleeper apartment from London to Inverness on our trip to the UK on 2026.
@@ModelTrainOutsider That sounds great Anthony! Perhaps you’ll be able to take a trip back from Inverness on a ScotRail ‘7Cities’ Class 43 HST to Glasgow or Edinburgh too.
NURSE! - THE SCREENS!! What a beautiful locomotive my fine friend! What a superb locomotive in looks and running! Major Hogan reported that you had excelled yourself once again in the acquisitions to your collection!
Hello ANTHONY! Wow, that train looks so cool on your layout. Really shows Marklin quality when it runs so well after being boxed for 20 years. All the best Deano
Howdy, Deano. I think most name-brand locos can do well if they were never opened and you open them 20 years later. The key is where were they stored. This one was clearly in a nice, climate-controlled area. The box, shell, and loco all show no signs of damp or drying out. Even the plastic shell was in mint shape. That does say something! Cheers!
Hi Anthony Wow I do like a cup of tea, sorry what a fantastic looking train and the coaches look ace and it ran superb. When the train and coaches in front of the houses it all looked great. Excellent find. Colin
Hi, Collin! I do not mind a cup of tea myself (hot, can't do iced). Clearly, my face int he video shows how happy I am to have it! Thanks for watching!
It is definitely an iconic and legendary. I still want one in the Lufthansa Express yellow-black livery, but I can not find one without the entire set, and expensive. I have one in DC, but not AC.
Awesome loco Anthony and yes the coaches are a different colour but it not noticeable. For the age of the coaches they look excellent. Thanks for sharing. Andy
Hi, Andrew! The reds definitely are not the same... difference between paints and changes, but even then, paints faded on the real models, so not a big deal at all! Take care, my friend!
Great value coaches Andy ! Good saving. They look stunning. If you hadn’t mentioned the loose roofs I wouldn’t have even noticed ! That 103 model is like the real thing . Even old they are still real reliable beasts ! Great review 👍
Hello, Andy. The loose roof is an easy fix, too. The person selling them did not investigate well... to my benefit. I have wanted a TEE for a while (still want the V600??? version). I also am still after a 103 in the Lufthansa Express livery, but you have to buy a who set and it is rare/expensive
Obviously, our hobby is filled with countless old locos of 20, 30, 50, 70 years or more of age and still running nicely. This being new old stock and an exclusive release, makes it very interesting.
Hello, Lyndon. If I had bought the same loco from 20 years or more earlier, the colors would have matched perfectly. That's the danger with mixing tin-plates from pre-1980 and locos from after 1980s with Märklin- colors slightly off. Still, a great train and one I have wanted!
Anthony a fabulous locomotive and what a find !!! To get coaching stock to make up a train that looks as good as this does, that's a definite wow. If I may say to you that you run it for 250, I think it is that special. Many thanks for sharing your video. Take care and stay safe :) :) :)
I try not to feel guilty at low-ball bids, but they could have said no. These are both collector items- loco and set of coaches. I wanted a TEE, now I have it, so it is a win.
Hey, Jean, the guy who told me the name of the motor had a funny accident, so I can only go by what I heard. :P (Pssst, it is C-Sine... I just been studying them before you called). Thanks for the help with the loco and coaches, seriously!
Another beautiful set! I was surprised when you said nearly 60 year old passenger coaches, they just as good as some of the modern models. Love the red with looks like a faded yellow cream color. Thanks for sharing!
They definitely are the best tinplates (in terms of condition) that I own. All date to the 60s or early 70s from Horst, Herb, and eBay... these are near mint, other than some scuffs on the roofs.
Hi, Chris. I have seen the weight on some of the OO stock and they are quite heavy. This definitely felt heavy, but I did not expect the numbers that came up. This is about as iconic a loco as the get in Germany and this livery is tops! Cheers!
Nice set, The dome car was restricted to the Rheingold as it did not fit any other route. Judging by the steepness of the windows it is the original height. Alternative locomotives are: SBB Re4/4, Dutch 1100 class, DB E10.12 with deep skirts in TEE red
Profi-level bootstrapping: buy cars for 100, need loco that is 200. Love it. I have this model. Very nice one. I think you were wise to buy a newer model. The older models of this loco are plastic bodied and vulnerable to paint bubbles. I've had paint litterally falling off in shipping from shaking. You chose well.
The plastic coaches and bodies definitely had some issues in coloring and more. The old tin plate (all metal) versions of the loco appealed to me because I felt they would just feel more natural with the tinplate coaches, but the ones on eBay were looking rough, and this one was New Old Stock, so it was a no-brainer.
Hello Wilhelm and family! It is an iconic classic, for sure. Many of my old-country friends have been messaging me reminiscing about their travels with them or their own models. I wish I had that kind of deep connection. Those connections are reserved for the ICEs, Regio DoStos and ICs, as that is what I have ridden on over the last 2 decades. Cheers!

Ahhh, yes. I remember. I almost bought an E03, but the paint had been scratched up pretty bad. I thought an old 60s-70s version would just fit with these coaches more naturally, but this newer loco definitely is a sharp one!

PIKO still does the standard car in dozens of liveries for quick and inexpensive production lines, even if not accurate to the real cars.
Marklin tinplate in good condition is getting really expensive now
