Was Mourinho in charge yhen in the FA Cup tie v Watford i think it was Scolari or Hiddink
It was Ray Wilkins as caretaker manager. Scolari had just been sacked and Hiddink was in the stands as he hadn’t taken a training session yet. The game Mikel is referring to is one in which Kalou scored a 90th minute winner or something like that in the 06/07 season.
That game was 0-0 at HT.
@@nickg2117 Yes, I remembered it as a 2-1 for some reason, but I still think this is the game Mikel is referring to. Mourinho would certainly have made you feel like you were losing if you were drawing 0-0 against the worst team in the league at halftime. And Makelele got substituted at halftime, which fits Mikel's story.
No other game fits the narrative. Chelsea were only losing at halftime in a handful of games when both Mourinho and Ballack were there. In only two of them (in domestic football, I'm assuming he's not confusing Watford with Valencia or Porto) did Chelsea come back to win it.
Those 2 games were:
Everton 2-3 Chelsea - Mikel was not in the squad and I doubt he would have traveled / been in the dressing room at halftime if he had.
Reading 1-2 Chelsea - Neither Makelele nor Ballack were in the squad.
I think he just misremembered the score at halftime, because all the other elements point to that game.

The highlights shown were from January 2009 when Scolari was in charge, and Chelsea did not concede a goal against Watford during the time Mourinho was manager.
He has name dropped the wrong team entirely.

I reckon he’s referring to the 0-1 win at Vicarage Road when Kalou scored a 90th min winner. Think he got the part about Chelsea being a goal or two down wrong, but I can imagine if Chelsea were drawing 0-0 against bottom of the table Watford at half time, Mourinho would make it feel like they were losing.
Makelele got substituted at half time in that game as well, which checks out if you listen to his whole description of their argument.
Also, Ray Wilkins was caretaker manager for the cup game shown in the highlights, not Scolari who had just been sacked. Hiddink was to officially take charge as interim the following day - he watched from the stands.
