Hi Nate, thanks for the comprehensive and helpful video about the history of Ninoy Aquino International Airport. It was interesting hearing about the other airports, throughout time in Manila and the photos you showed. Could see how congestion around the airport is a problem with all of the cars and traffic trying to navigate around.
Usually eating places in airports charge higher prices than normally so it is great that they provide all of the different food options at a fair price.
The sleeping accommodations and the ability to store luggage safely is great as well for those with long layovers to get some much needed rest.

A consortium led by SMC is in talks with the government to rehabilitate NAIA..If that proposal push through, NAIA will finally get its much needed major improvement. I had so much memories of NAIA. I used to live at nearby Tambo, Paranaque. The old terminal (it was called MIA back then) that burned down was where most of my days were spent spotting planes on the view deck and playing games at the arcade. Great video Nate!

This is a great resource for navigating the calamity that is NAIA. Just a few additional tips:
    1. When transferring from a domestic flight to international flight on a single reservation, your checked in bags will usually be be delivered to your international check-in gate, rather than the luggage belt (do check first when checking in for your first flight) - this is true for T3, but not sure about the other terminals.
    2. Porters can be a God-send. They will often allow you to skip the queues when entering the busy T3.
    3. There is a complimentary shuttle service from numerous hotels at Newport (i.e. Mariott, Holiday Inn, etc) to all 4 terminals. Convenient if you have plenty of bags
    4. At T3 expect your bags to be screened entering the airport, at check in and then prior to boarding. It is such a hassle, but a legacy of Duterte's strict war on drugs policy

As much of a hassle NAIA is to travel to and from, it is simply unbeatable in terms of ease of access to the metro. Not even Clark or the ongoing New Manila Airport can match that(for now, hopefully). Although, I do hope moving forward there can be more public transport options for the airport, such as those in Narita and Changi. Anyways, this video is surprisingly informative and relatable. Good job!

I (and other passengers) had a really bad experience at Istanbul airport. The airport itself is massive and impressive but the staff were rude and unhelpful. As a filipino, I don’t want to give my opinion on manila airports as it may sound biased. However a fellow passenger, a German lad, said Manila airport may lack many amenities and service is slow but the staff will assist you upto the very end. He added he would still choose to land in Manila any time over Istanbul Airport.

You gave a heads-up, but it will still be confusing for first-time visitors to the Philippines. They'll be overwhelmed with the jarring noise and hopping to other terminals or hotels and the confounding traffic is so terribly frustrating and scary you'll miss your connecting flight. I'm speaking as a local, but then your honesty too made this blog something to take note of. I doubt the rehabilitation will happen anytime soon if at all. It's been since Duterte was president but it never happened. Anyway good luck to those travellers.

I came back a few times in 1992, 2005, and 2006 and it was a horrible experience each time. In 2019 I decided to use Mactan International and stayed in Cebu for about a month. What i have learned from you is to try to book an airline that comes to Terminal 3. Airports mostly determine if a person visiting will have a positive experience or not, so I am glad to hear that SMC and a Korean consortium will renovate NAIA starting September 2024. I hope they'll pay particular attention to the way people transfer from terminal to terminal. Now i have to see your video about Clark.

Very informative video. I plan on visiting the Philippines this summer, I heard nightmare stories about this airport. This makes me feel better.

Terminal 2 is feels like a bus station. I actively avoid domestic flights on PAL to avoid it. Terminal 1 is also a pretty terrible experience for an international terminal. Terminal 3 is a good for both international and domestic flights.

I've used Manila airport 6 times, the last time was in June '23 after staying for one night in a shoddy hotel in the dodgy area of Ermita.(not for the 1st time 😆) My cab the following morning was told to take me to the once international departures, terminal 2. Only after 2 more cabs did I actually make it to the correct terminal 3, where Thai airways fly from. A bit of a pain I'm aware, but I got there eventually 🤣

Any idea if I am using PAL ( so all terminal 1, international transfer AU to JP) if I need to collect my luggage and basically check back in? Or does the transfer desk take care of that?
    Or is it a - depends? 😅

TERMINAL 1- UGLIEST exterior/Outdated parking with Thieves
TERMINAL 2 -Cleanest more open air design
TERMINAL 3- Busiest and has elevated parking ( The long lines that Cebpac airline creates just for paying the baggage is chaos tho)
Terminal 4- havent been to it
