Ma'am I need an example...Why do we need to convert raw scores into a Standardized score??

If there are two set of scores one from 100 and another from 175. And a student get 50 marks out of 100 in hindi and 50 marks out of 175 in maths. Here we can't determine in which subject his performance is better.
But by converting them into standard scores we can determine this.
