The lobbyists are made aware of the hearing months in advance, and are paid to advocate their stance on issues for a living.

I’ve seen everyday ppl go to DC to speak that don’t make squat.
But that isn’t the point at all. People like Ms. Christina aren’t just paid by her lobbying firm, but are definitely being paid by Apple themselves.
It’s no secret that MOST major corps, especially tech companies, have inherited shady business practices and will do whatever it takes to keep their business running the way it always has, with as little regulation by the govt as possible. Although they repeatedly break the laws already in place.

@@RedPowder That's not the same thing. A circuit diagram is just a paper version of the physical layout of the product they sold you, like an assembly manual of ikea furniture. Louis never sold you a product that secretly contained all his customer's info, now did he?
A better comparison is this: you buy a new car, and 2 months later the battery suddenly dies. You cannot find the battery because it's somewhere deep inside the dashboard. You ask the car manufacturer for a repair manual how to change the battery, and they tell you to either go fuck yourself or come to one of their dealers who charge 1500 bucks for a replacement. You decide to try it yourself, and you find it. You replace it with another battery. Your car still refuses to start and shows a message on screen telling you that the battery is not legitimate, even though you bought a great battery of the correct voltage and capacity that is used in many other car brands.
It's called sabotage. They've sabotaged their products to make more money off of you when they break. That also incentivizes them to make products that break easily, because those make more money. When you buy an Apple product, you've been scammed. "Think different", right?
@@RedPowder Read 'Atlas Shrugged' by Ayn Rand.
@@RedPowder Basically yes. There is no "should" other than what society, by the legislative process, decides. Christina Fisher: Surprised Pikachu Face.
Robert Feiner he didn’t have a paper script. But he definitely had note points on his phone in front of him.
I do not at all mean that to take away from how correct and on point he was the entire time. Fuck Technet
Problem is that most like him are too busy making ends meet, or too cynical, to show up... Not only that, every trick in the book is used to make it hard to show up, venue changes, late notifications, etc... Makes it seem like the meek inheriting the earth are the soft paper pushers at the top, desperately brainwashing everyone about the value of their fiat currencies, starting with themselves... Nothing builds the spirit of a nation like bad governance... It's no surprise that the countries with the worst governments have the warmest, friendliest people.
@@coenraadloubser5768 Yeah it's hard to be optimistic when the lobbyists are giving them happy endings behind closed doors. Glad Louis is going for it though!
That was so beautifully timed and recited, that if I had any reason to believe this was scripted, I would. Mic drop moments like that can not be happen in a real court room, outside of movies. They probably never been so entertained discussing law, and that was a rare life moments under pressure where every response was quick, concise, and left no gap in reasoning. Good job, brother! That was great
The most impressive thing of all this is how you you got the people in suits engaged.
It's that New York energy.
He is very good at analogies. And explaining things in a clear and concise manner that is easily digestible.
and he probably had to tell at least one of them, that Apple won't sell the 'fuse' or button or screen he needs to fix their device.
The Executive Director was lame and boring. She probably gets paid 4x as much and knows very little about what she's talking about. How about that wage gap!

"There's a reason why this hasn't passed in other states." Yeah, the same reason that's paying you to be there.
Exactly!!!
@Suffer No Fools An implied reason is that lobbyists are paying out enough money to sway lawmakers to not pass similar laws
@Suffer No Fools it's about the rights to repair your own stuff, basically. The "big" companies are charging a premium, or even refusing to make it possible for us "normal people" to fix our things ourselves. That's what the lobbyist bitch wants to keep going, where Louis (as always) takes a stand. Hopefully the committee sees the light and gives the right way for us all.
@Suffer No Fools Apple could repair your laptop trackpad by swapping out the fuse, 15 minutes maximum and charge you $50 and everyone is happy. Except Apple will tell you the whole board needs replacing at a cost of $350-$700, sometimes more.
They are designing their products to destroy themselves if you try to investigate where it's broken.
If you create a diagram of where the fuse is that needs to be replaced then APPLE threaten to sue for your beach of APPLES copyright.
This is why they charge $500 to replace 6 inches of cracked glass on the back of your phone. Reality it should be a $50 fix or less. It's mass produced glass.
APPLE have a very anti-consumer repair attitude.
Spare Parts. APPLE are warning makers of parts not to sell parts to consumers or repair shops. Can you imagine Ford or GM doing this?
Apple are dirty. I will never buy a product from them because of how they treat customers.
The analogies are great, Louis. They really show the layman the ridiculousness of the situations. Thanks for doing this!
When you tell the truth, you dont need a script
Amen to that... Similar to "When you tell the truth, you don't need to remember anything".
I always fascinated how he telling such a complicated sentences one by one without pauses and don't checking any papers/gadgets
Eh, not always. Some people like to get their thoughts down on paper if they don't deal well with pressure, but then there's this lady that most likely has been given a script and didn't spend time practising. Considering it's full of corporate speak, she's just saying what technet wants her to say.
@@QuiteSpiffing fuck the job like that

And then Louis Rossmann explains that the firmware on an Apple Laptop is like a terrorist taking a cyanide pill and there's not a soul up there that doesn't understand the issue anymore.
He literally nailed it using that example!

How hilarious is that?
Her basic speech was, 'Don't do it, because no one else is'.
you can tell by the lawmakers’ body language (ie, leaning “into” you, listening to you for long periods of time without blinking or fidgeting) that they were very interested in what you had to say, louis. compare that to christina, the blonde lobbyist in the early part of the video. they were very slouched back in their chairs, fidgeting, almost as if they knew what she was going to say. good job louis!

A fuse, a damn fuse. Fuses exist so they can fail and be replaced.
Apple fuses are OP man.
No, Fuses exist to supply power to board. Connector pins exist so they can fail and be replaced, and by replaced, I mean the entire laptop
Clearly someone doesn't understand Innovation...
@@ilovefunnyamv2nd I thought that was the job of the smc and onboard dedicated gpu, to die before anything else to protect the system components further down the line.
No, the purpose of a fuse is to prevent a fire in the case of too much current draw. Some fuses are also there to prevent damage to other equipment in the circuit. Many of these are user-replaceable like blade fuses and bus fuses. The fuse in question is a teeny, tiny fuse soldered onto the board. It is obviously only there to prevent fire and not designed to be replaced. That being said, we SHOULD be allowed to replace (at our own risk) them if we have the skill/balls to do so.
That thing about who is getting paid and who is not being paid to be there, says SO much more than a thousand words.
I thought Louis actually could have made that point better. Could have mentioned how he spent his own cash getting on a train last minute to be here, because yes, this was his livelihood.

I was just going to say the same thing. She did not make a good presentation. Louis, on the other hand, was very clear, concise, and well-spoken (with zero "crutch words").
When you ask people who your favorite heroes are, they always forget Louis Rossman. Dude is the modern superhero for standing up for us. I've learned a lot by watching his videos over the years and I think it's fair that consumers have access to the information he shares.
Yes he's definitely a hero to all of us. Anybody who thinks they should have the right to repair things they've purchased. This definitely goes to ewaste as well. If you knew how easy it was to fix that power port you might do it instead of buying a new laptop.
Holy shit! Thank you for teaching the legislators of my home state so effectively!
You know, and I have said this before, when I first watched one of his videos I thought he was kind of an ass... I'm not gonna sugar coat it.
