Vocals & arrangement by Farya Faraji. It was about time I finally tackled the last major Romance language left, and I wanted to start with a more obscure folk song from the area of Fundão, in Beira Baixa. The earliest recording we have of it is in this album tradisom.com/en/produto/michel-giacometti-uma-longa-militancia I wanted to bring together different aspects of the music in the area surrounding Fundão, namely of the Beiras and the general Centro region. The main percussive drive is provided by the adufe, a square frame drum said to be of Moorish origin, and most often associated with religious music, though it also had secular uses, specifically for field work. I modelled the rythm after a simple triple metre pattern heard in this recording: ruclips.net/video/mKEPeq26raQ/видео.htmlsi=t5Itv50NLxigjBD8 I also brought in the sound of a bagpipe, the gaita-de fole de Coimbra, which has affinities with its northern sibling, the Northern Portuguese-Galician gaita, and of an accordion, an instrument commonly heard in the region. Lyrics in Portuguese: Ó meu amor, se tu fores, Leva-me, podendo ser! Eu quero ir acabar Onde tu fores morrer. Coincidence or not, I was thinking of recommending a Portuguese song for you to sing and record (I'm Portuguese even this song is from my region.) Perhaps the biggest coincidence is that the song I had in mind has a verse just like this one... And one thing you did that is historically accurate is to use the bagpipes. They were once common in the Beira culture, but have now been lost, being used only for specific events. The songs of the Beira region usually show a typology that corresponds to the key tunings of the bagpipes.

thanks
Greetings from Brazil 🇧🇷
I was not expecting this at all, because i feel no one cares about Portuguese history/culture. And me as portuguese and a big fan of your work, Im so fucking happy ❤ Obrigado Farya ❤ when you come to Portugal, you have to visit Coimbra, magical cit...
Your pronunciation is impecable. Absolutely outstanding.
Zeca Afonso is in heaven wondering how a Canadian-Iranian somehow pulled this off.
N deveria ter nenhum problema disso tbm né?
Incredible! Perfect pronunciation! Lots of love from Portugal.
I know you usually bring people to perform somw stuff, but from what i can tell you sang for this one? Incredible! Incredible!
Amazing, as a portuguese, the pronunciation was stellar, and i would say it souds like a native speaker singing. Also this was posted on the anniversary of the battle of Aljubarrota, so bonus points
Coincidence or not, I was thinking of recommending a Portuguese song for you to sing and record (I'm Portuguese even this song is from my region.)
Perhaps the biggest coincidence is that the song I had in mind has a verse just like this one...
And one thing you did that is historically accurate is to use the bagpipes. They were once common in the Beira culture, but have now been lost, being used only for specific events.
The songs of the Beira region usually show a typology that corresponds to the key tunings of the bagpipes.
Finalement, le portugais! Les paroles sont assez intenses
