Heavy metal is an extreme art form and with extreme art comes extreme ideas if you can't handle it don't consume it. Also it is entirely possible to enjoy someone's art and disagree with their opinions at the same time.
I read an article not too long ago about these same groups trying to get rid of mosh pits. Claiming pits are alienating women and they demonstrate too much aggression and toxic masculinity. But they soon realized they werent making much headway so they've created their own safe spaces without mosh pits. And that's what will have to happen for those groups. If you want a change, create it yourself. But don't come into my space telling me what to do. And holy shit that pissed me off so much. I'm a woman who's loved metal and gone to shows for as long as I can remember and never have I ever felt alienated from or by a mosh pit. It was offensive to me to even hear that shit but... whatevs
As an LGBT metalhead, I feel sort of caught between two communities. On one hand, I feel I'll try to be PC just because I think of myself as a polite person and don't want to offend anyone. At least not intentionally. I won't use slurs or genuinely offensive words when talking with people, but I won't take it to the extreme far-left description of being PC. On the other hand, I could care less if other people weren't PC. It takes a lot to offend me and I won't bitch at people for not being PC. In terms of the metal community, I could care less if they were PC. I don't always feel accepted in the metal community, being gay, but so long as I am not being personally attacked, I could care less for how a band decides to present itself, PC or not.
I'm a very tolerant man, I could care less about political correctness whenever I think it's needed or if it's completely redundant, in other words I think racism, sexism, or homophobia is a way to look for trouble in society today but I do think that censorship is wrong and disrespectful.
There are a lot of nice metalheads, I'm bisexual myself. These days metal splits down the political middle. I usually just stay away from the black metal fans.
@@joep359 Ah I totally understand you. Even if I love black metal and wear shirts all the time, the shit which is going on in this subgenre is just ridiculous. Stay strong, youth will bring freedom to this world, and we will wash away the bullshit.
Political correctness just feels like a politicaly correct way to say censorship. But didn't we already go through this shit? Back when Black Sabbath was satanic and Judas Priest had subliminal messages?
Stupid politics always ruins everything. Activists will attack anyone that does not agree with them. First gamers now metalheads. We metalheads will fight for our music. - a female metalhead from Singapore
Cannibal Corpse is a funny example as it was actually heavily censored for several years in germany. First covers got outlawed so wet get our special watered down ones. Then the records went onto the index (no ads, only sold to adults). Even live they were not allowed to play certain songs. Funny times as it was a really ad campaign for CC :-)
It's not just metal music that political correctness needs to stay out of. It's all kinds of art forms. Political correctness has been steadily ruining things like comic books (a prime example being Marvel), video games, and even cartoons. Thankfully anime and metal have remained pretty much untouched. Sure, these instances crop up from time to time, but, until we see a big band like Maiden being forced to add people of different racial or cultural backgrounds for the sake of so-called 'diversity' or an anime about gender studies, I'd say we're doing pretty okay for now.
2 years ago,my Mother died...she didn't 'pass away' or 'expire'. I have a disease that does not all0ow me to walk; I'm in a wheelchair. I am a cripple...no I'm not a handi-tard or differently abled...I'm a cripple - NO shame in that. By renaming your condition doesn't help, ever. PC must die.
Exactly. When my dad committed suicide I didn't instantly start telling people they can't ever mention suicide or joke about it. It's so selfish and closed-minded in my opinion to tell people what they can and can't joke about based on something that happened to me.
This political correctness happened to me once with a girl she said metal was sexist and then she was defending pop music and twerking saying that it was talent. And some guy saying that the women in metal are just there so the companies can sell more, because the guys just go see those bands for the attractive woman in the band. Last time I checked metal fans cared more about the talent of the band the talent of the musicians never have they cared for their looks, last time a guy at a show was talking to me about Nervosa and not once did he mention how hot the vocalist was me and him were just talking about her vocal talents
Lol so Arch Enemy has a career just because the vocalist is a girl. Nevermind the fact that they got alot of attention with the first album which had a MALE vocalist. Yea shocker
Matt, It has been said that "religion s the opiate of the masses!" but that misguided woman needs help if she actually thinks that Autotune is better than actually singing. What the hell is "twerking"?
Metal has always been a very broad and diverse genre of music, not just in terms of global backgrounds, but musically and lyrically. To me, that's the biggest reason metal is widely loved. And that's why bands should be able to write about whatever they please and not be told they can't. If you don't like it, you don't have to listen to it, but when activist groups try to ruin the fun for everyone else, that's when shit needs to stop.
I laugh at the ones saying that stuff about the festivals, you have bands like Slayer, Krisiun, and Sepultura perform and they arent white (Slayer has white men but it is fronted by a south american man Tom Araya), and it has a lot of female fronted bands in them Nightwish, Doro, Leaves Eyes, Arch Enemy, Eluveitie, Epica, Arkona, and Xandria
I agree with this more or less to the full. I'm quite left leaning politically but I don't have a problem with metal being extreme, cause it's art, and art is self expression. I don't believe in a "PC Culture" that's ruining our society, I think it's just some people struggle to find a balance between being too PC or too insensitive/unkind. I think that representation of minorities is important to help society become more inclusive but this should begin by encouraging people who haven't been exposed to metal to give it a go to see if they enjoy it and want to pursue creating and/or playing it, not just by shoving some non-typical people on stage to perform metal. But yeah, like James Hetfield says live "we don't give a shit where you're from, or who you are, or who you voted for, etc..." metal is an inclusive community for people with a common love for extreme art, and it isn't divided by skin colour or religion or gender. There's more white people in metal just like there's more black people in Hip-hop; that doesn't mean for one second that black people can't enjoy metal or white people can't enjoy hip-hop.
Manny Singh they still make good music. I dont like communism (or fascism and nazism for that matter) but if they make good music why the fuck wouldn't i listen to them. Thats all that matters in the end.
as a german , i listen to metal because of the SOUND . i simplie like DISTORTED e-guitars and drums ,i now just a few english words .see you all in WACKEN
It is possible for there to be good music that is PC, but I don't think any band should be forced to be that way. I especially don't think any music festival should be forced to play certain bands just because of PCness, like if I was the lead of a band I wouldn't want to be added to a festival's lineup just because it's a female led band, I want to be added because we're good, and being added just because I'm a chick is just as bad as sexual discrimination.
I stand left wing on most political issues, but fuck censorship. People should have the right to do and say what they want as long as its not attacking people
I completely agree with this video. I frequently have this conversation with my metalhead friends. Metal isn’t supposed to be safe. It’s something that allows us to confront real or imaginary evils from Nazis to Satan. Just because the songs or the bands contain evil themes does not mean we are supporting nazis or satanism. It’s like saying that teaching world war 2 in schools is educating kids to become nazis.

From all I could find he sounded like he was a psycho anyway. I totally agree, to me metal is as much about the ideas and freedom of thoughts and stories as it is guitars, but I have faith that us metalheads wont bow down when told to make extreme music mild.
I think PC culture is really annoying, but I don't see it going anywhere. It's almost like calling people Nazis or saying something is racist is fashionable now. A lot of these terms are being tossed around far too easily. I 'm not too worried about PC culture working its way into metal. First, I don't think that people who listen to metal will allow it to happen; and secondly it doesn't seem like the best music choice to push an agenda onto a wide audience. They should stick to mainstream pop whatever.
Nobody is taking away the darkness in metal. They tried more in the 80s to censor metal. way harder. THE PMRC. Metal is not the rebellious music it once was. Yeah, you'll always have people out there trying to control others. The anti pc crowd tends to be drama queens much of the time. Nobody is stopping anything. And if you can't handle a little resistance along the way, make gospel music.
This kinda reminds me what happened to Disma. They were kicked off the Netherlands Death Fest I think. It was all because Craig was in a hate band on the side. They were banned from the festival. I mean that is so lame to kick a band as there are people out there who like the band for their death metal lyrics not what they believe or do in their free time. I think it is so lame we can't all stay in our corners.
Doesn't matter if they end up watering down metal because that won't erase the great bands that have already made great music Iron maiden cannibal corpse slayer pantera exodus or kreator to name a few of my favorites
There is no winning here. No matter what one does in life, they will offend someone,or piss them off. I bet my left leg Bob Ross and Mr. Rogers have pissed someone off before. I agree with you,Werewolf. Ugh. If the PC teetotalers had their way,Burzum would be about fluffy kittens.
I feel like this goes back to the subject of mainstream music. Like, A reason I don't like what people want to hear on the radio, Is because I NEVER hear my music on it. For example, The only Thrash Metal I hear is Metallica, Or maybe Anthrax's Bring the Noize.
I get what you say, but i don't think it's fair to say leftists are against metal or dark music. The goth subculture is very rooted in left wing politics and they talk about some really dark shit. Same with punk, because they make a distinction between art and reality. They realise that when cannibal corpse talks about death, that is art and people like it, but when someone actually dies that is bad and people know that. When metal first came around, the backlash it faced came mostly from religious conservatives, who screamed about satanism, and all that shit, while leftists were more open minded to change and new stuff in general.
I don't think he meant all leftists or liberals . I think he just meant people in general getting triggered and trying to ruin things for other people because they may have misconstrued something or happened to be offended by something . Btw you're absolutely right about alternative subcultures leaning more towards the left and being more open minded than conservatives who try to portray rock and metal as evil.
As for Women Fronted Band festivals, there's always the Dame-Nation festival. For PC, though... Why we still have this problem, in our lifetime/generation, is beyond me...
I don't know if actual political correctness would work with the aggressive style of metal. One of the most important things, if not *the* most important thing, is that metal bands don't tell you how great it is that we have peace and love and freedom and all that bullshit, they express how horrible it is that we actually don't.
Dude, kickass South of Heaven shirt \m/

Well put, love your videos dude. \m/
Man I'm totally with you 🤘
There's loads of female fronted metal bands that are popular.
do you work for century media, SymphonicmetalTV?
The first thing I thought of when I read the title was Infant Annihilator.
Not taking a side here, I just like funnies. Have a great day 👍
Well said.
I completely agree agree, punk rock should be the same way as well, being the fact that you have punk bands like bad religion, Pennywise just to a few
I feel like this goes back to the subject of mainstream music. Like, A reason I don't like what people want to hear on the radio, Is because I NEVER hear my music on it. For example, The only Thrash Metal I hear is Metallica, Or maybe Anthrax's Bring the Noize.
Really loved your recommendation - good old school Thrash
BangerTV and Metalsucks should take notes
And he was politically correct in this video. In a good way. Respect, honesty, truth and no bullshit. This is how it's done.
As for Women Fronted Band festivals, there's always the Dame-Nation festival. For PC, though... Why we still have this problem, in our lifetime/generation, is beyond me...
0:30 little did you know
Nice slayer shirt bro
I don't know if actual political correctness would work with the aggressive style of metal. One of the most important things, if not *the* most important thing, is that metal bands don't tell you how great it is that we have peace and love and freedom and all that bullshit, they express how horrible it is that we actually don't.
I couldn't agree more.
