Red Bull saying their car is hitting a development wall is like Hamilton saying his tires are finished 20 laps early.
Its possibly true, theyve made statements that the car is already optimised and there isnt much improvement they can make to it so its likely to plateau

Mercedes bringing all these updates in a sprint weekend tells you everything you need to know about their current state: New parts may be hard to tune during a sprint weekend but if you know by advance that without them your car will be both slow and impredictible, then the risk reward ratio is worth it. This had to be expected after bringing a totally new car three years in the regulation. Really appreciate your work, thank you !
Mclaren is confirmed to be bringing a new front wing. My guess is this will help make the car more natrual when driving. They were talking about how the car gives up mid corner and on longer corners; will also benefit in slower speed corners and tyre deg. I've also seen Stella talking about this upgrade will bring more downforce to the car. He confirmed it is a full aero upgrade not mechanical (which is why there is little "visual change" from the mcl60 to mcl38). My guess other than the front wing they will bring a new floor, diffuser. I think about 0.3-0.4s per lap gain (raw performance) but the drivability of the car will massively improve.

McLaren don't expect it to be as big as the mid season updates like last year's Austria GB and Singapore

We know that both teams share the same wind tunnel, and are having correlation problems. Some also noticed how Dan Fallows was slightly pissed when talking about the Mercedes suspension. 🤔

I got it based on chrono gp video, the overcut inlet remove trubulence which is more high pressure air flow, more down force and reduce drag too

There are a lot of new and interesting sciences out there on aerodynamics that can be and may be applied to F1 development. Artificial Neural Networks can be used for the floor sensors to better understand the real-life loads and movements on the floor and its structure. There are also Kalman filtering techniques to simplify the modeling of load estimation. These are applied to helicopter and wind turbine blades to analyze non-axial flows and impact on the blades. Mercedes does have issues with their tools and closing the loop between CFD, WT, and Track Testing, and it is easy to see why they can be left behind technology-wise if they stand still and believe their tools are good enough. Based on what they say in their post-race debriefs, they seem to be doing development and investigations the "old fashioned" way, and manually 😅 .
As always top notch video, hope the Ferrari won't be as blue as the renderings we see since one week, and I also wonder how much of the budget cap they spent into this special livery 😂

Bringing upgrades in Sprint weekend is scary, since the window for optimisation is small, last year Aston Martin struggled with this.😮

I think this Merc upgrade has greater chance of succeeding, despite some talk I think this years car is a better base and I think they could move the needle, fingers crossed. Also, regarding the Red bull finding it hard to make big gains, I wonder will that make the next season a very difficult one for Perez if the pack close to Red bull rather than drift.

I went to the race in 22 and 23, but I’m definitely going to miss out this year because I feel that it’s not worth it since max is gonna win and no driver changes.
I went to the 2023 race and enjoyed it so much. In person I just love hearing the sound and watching the cars fly
as an italian viewing a lot of italian news, i understood that ferrari will bring the overcut for imola, because they found unexpected gains trying it after barhain

As for Ferrari's new color scheme, I thought the idea was to have a tribute to the 1964 cars, driven by John Surtees and Lorenzo Bandini, to the World Championship. If memory serves, Enzo was mad at somebody. Probably the FIA, who knows, and had threatened to not send cars to the U.S. Anyway, he officially "didn't enter any cars" for the US GP at Watkins Glen. But there were Ferrari's there driven by the Scuderia's drivers. The team cars were painted in the traditional U.S. colors of Blue and White and entered by N.A.R.T. (North American Racing Team), the Ferrari distributor for America (owned by Luigi Chinetti). The blue was fairly dark and the cars looked pretty good ... and yet it was somewhat to see "American" Ferrari's competing.

It’ll be interesting to see this race. I don’t think Merc will really improve. Aston I’m not sure about. McLaren is a possibility for a podium, but I’m guessing that Ferrari will still be best of the rest here. We will just have to see but I am excited

4:44 you make the same mistake that is done by everyone by assuming an engine is all about HP. That engine definitely has a problem for this new regulation. My bet is that it heats up too quickly or it may create a mechanical problem.

An improvement for Merc would be nice, but I doubt they will be in the podium mix. McLaren will be, Aston might be, but I imagine Ferrari will be the best of the rest. I just hope it's a good race.

I don’t think that Mercedes is going to be a competitive car even after ‘26 revamped rules. Their inability to put together a car that performs well, with ground effects and adding to the mix that customer teams are performing better it’s not a good outlook for them.

I hope Mclaren are again completely downplaying themselves with those upgrades. They are about same as Ferrari for me. Twice in Melbourne and worst Suzuka strategy made them screw up Lando races. He should have finished above Charles in both races.

After reading several articles on the "decent" step in performance that Andrea Stella and McLaren are expecting from the upgrades that they are bringing to the F1 2024 Miami Grand Prix, i'm expecting Lando Norris to challenge Max Verstappen for pole position.
Why?
Andrea Stella always downplays they upgrades.
In 2023, at the Austrian Grand Prix, he told reporters that the upgrades would be worth around .2 to .3 of a second in performance. It was closer to .78 of a second.
So, in my opinion, reading between the lines, "decent" means .3 to .4 of a second.
And with Red Bull Racing not expected to bring any upgrades for the race, McLaren should be very strong in sectors 1 and 3.
I'm NOT saying that McLaren will win the race because Red Bull Racing is still a lot better on tyre degradation during the race.
During the 2023 F1 Miami Grand Prix, Max Verstappen started on the hard tyres and only pitted about 13 laps from the end of the race.
Warning:
Andrea Stella told us that it will be "damage limitation" for McLaren at the previous race, but Lando Norris finished in P2.
Andrea Stella believes setting reasonable expectations and then exceeding them, so when he said that McLaren can win races this year, believe him.
