Thrift with Me as I Show You that Treasure Is Not Always Out There but DRAMA IS.

  • Short video. I thought it was longer but I was wrong. In this video it's more drama than shopping so if you want to bounce that is cool. I had an issue with a Salvos thrift store recently and this is the follow up. I know it looks like I'm cutting off my nose to spite my face but I just want these charities to be better and do better. I was a volunteer and also a paid staff member for other charity organisations and I can tell you that the bigger ones need a serious overhaul.
I don't want people to think I just go about charity bashing. I know it can look like that but it seems that as a business they are not held accountable for poor habits and behaviour. I want them all to do well and make money for their causes. What is the point pricing something so high it will NEVER sell? Stock rotation is key for these organisations.
A lot of people say that resellers are the problem and maybe I need to address that in a video. In the meantime however.. Resellers are actually part of the lifeblood of this charity economy. We tend to spend more than the average customer as well. We go to more stores and the money is spread further into the community. We help promote a circular economy and give life to things that would otherwise see landfill. Yes we resell but every business needs stock. You don't begrudge your big box retailers buying stock brand new so what is the difference? We provide goods and services to a customer base that either cannot or won't travel to find these items for themselves.
Reselling is also a business. Many of us pay tax on the income and it allows us to pay the rent and feed our children. It also stops many from needing government handouts or pensions. There are a lot of resellers out there who do not have the capacity to undertake traditional employment and this is a way they can have the dignity of earning a very honest income. Or in my case, it is about chasing my dreams of being an author and being my honest self.
Fun fact that some do not realise is that these thrift shops are set up to raise money through sales, not provide cheap products to the needy. It used to be that way but the sad fact is that money can do more good for the needy than a second hand jumper. I hope this helps people get the role of resellers. We are simply for the most part second hand dealers sourcing our goods as efficiently as we can and are just as valid a part of the economy as your traditional retail outlets. In a way maybe even more so in terms of sustainability. Our very existence ensures the extended life of items donated by their original owners, passing them on to new people to enjoy.
Anyway thats a rant that took longer than the video.

I went to donate at salvos 17 years ago before I was reselling and back when you would just dump stuff at the door. They came out and were like "NO NO NO, we don't want any donations. Did you put this bag here?!!! We don't wannit!!!" The bag was already there, so i said no, it wasn't me. Then she opened the bag and it was full of jeans and she was like, "at least it's good stuff."
Anyway she told me to take my stuff back.
    I thought wow, so fussy!
Never went there again. I take all my donations to savers now, because they take everything.

Trying to give the AussieFlipper a run for his money with your video.
We sell those Biggles very quickly in the bookshop for $10 so $5 is cheap considering how quickly they sell for us at $10ea.

No used toys really? It sounds like they’re being lazy at this shop want everything new and easy to sell! I enjoyed this video hopefully they don’t put your picture up in all their stores like a Wanted poster!

I rewatched it, to make sure I didn't miss anything. What I don't understand is you're driving a car you're not walking. If only 3 kms away you can give the toys away to a shop who really would want them, what's your problem?

It might be my fault, but you may have missed the point that day. I drove over 40 km going to multiple shops and I had already been to the other thrift store. I had specifically taken toys to the op shop where the altercation happened on another occasion..

And I explain the reselling in the written description. I wouldn’t be overly concerned. Unless you’re going in there and yelling that you are a reseller what myself or what other people won’t impact you at all. Appreciate the feedback though mate! 👍

@@geelong-flipper they work it out pretty fast, that U r a reseller. My favourite little honey hole, the head volunteer worked out I was reseller. Her attitude towards me changed, but I carried on being nice. But the other Nan's working in the op shop, use too come to me with things my teenage son might want. Makes thrifting very easy, especially when they keep the good stuff out the back for u. $4 for clothes or shoes unless marked. Lucky they kept forgetting what size he was.

Hi There, just wandering what address you provide for return purposes, as I gather you don’t want all having your home address. Just starting out 😊

Like watching your vids but surely you must realise that it’s people like you publicising how much profit you’re making on RUclips from a quick flip that’s raising the prices and making it difficult for everyone… there’s loads of RUclipsrs doing it… love seeing what you pick up but what you all profit from it should be kept under your hats… I’m guessing most of your subscribers work in all these thrift shops! 😊

You should reach out for a copy of the photos since she took them while at work. I don't know why you RUclipsrs trying to make it hard for all the resellers, who rely on going into these Op shops. They will tar us all with the same brush. If I'm not happy with a certain op shop I just don't go there. I know you are trying to make videos but I don't get the point. I guess you was not as bad as Matty the Aussie flipper. Throwing a big wobbly. Even with 90% of the comments thinking he is in the wrong, he's so entitled he can't see his behaviour is not acceptable.
