That's interesting about the different batteries affecting turn on times, My hero 7 always takes longer to turn on than the two 5's I have - I must try swapping the batteries around!
You can set the exposure comp to -.5 which will help not blowing out the highlights and darkens the shadows without having to do in post. I do that anyway. A lot of good info in here bro.
@@AquaticRehabSpearfishing I really don't know how much it matters underwater. Standard response would be to set to low and add it later but I'm not even sure it matters really. Does a bit when you're filming things like branches, leaves etc with a lot of detail but water is different.
@@danieljonesadventures2181 the problem I find with this is the camera then has to record through 3 lenses. Fine if you're not an animal like me but I can't even get clean footage through my removable lens on land and have to film with it off haha
Very good tips here. It takes a while to be able to take good underwater footage when spearfishing with all that's going on. My problem is that the camera is usually pointing either too low or too high, LOL And then I keep forgetting to turn it off on the way up, record a whole bunch of useless footage and run out of battery when something interesting happens, haha.
Great tips. How do you know if the camera has actually turned on and started recording? I used to dive with a HERO3 on my mask, but I often couldn't hear the beeps from the camera...
Those defogger strips are expensive. I cut a little rectangle of paper towel and fold a couple layers and run it across between the bottom of the lense and the bottom of the case. Never had it fog on me and is cheap as.
Do you put a desiccant on it? I find most issues are after I swap batteries and there’s water all over the show. Find the water drawing strips to be very forgiving. Think there was some pretty cheap ones on trademe.
@@AquaticRehabSpearfishing I suppose your battery swapping could be a different issue based on your diving and filming routine. I dont add anything however I usually always swap batteries with my booger pickers being dry. When I take my boat I keep a second go pro for dead battery. But in Hawaii, camping on dive trips isn't as common. Also you have a busy channel. Im sitting on hundreds of hours of unedited dive footage and tossed up a whopping 1 edit. I'd rather just dive. Lol.
@@8InchShaka haha yeah man. I'm just shit at keeping water out of that new port thing on the gopro that water can get behind it's a nightmare. I hear ya, I have 20 dives worth of footage piled up and I cant be bothered.
Hi mate,i just starting this spearfishing, which gopro that good for beginner? I am buying used gopro first from marketplace, i dont mind old version of gopro
just an experience i had with the head strap go pro mount every time i duck dived it would flop off the side of my head , didnt get any good footage that day haha
Hi no I don’t because I speak to the GoPro on the surface and on the boat. It would make colour correction easier at depth and my saved underwater grades are so red heavy but I feel it’s more for scuba and staying down longer without topside and surface footage.

@@AquaticRehabSpearfishing do u ever change it at all? Say your hunting for snapper do you go medium or narrow? Just that I find when I use wide if I'm snooping it looks like the fish is super far away, where as your footage always seems in good range and you can see/judge the size of the fish well
At the end of each clip do thumbs up or down if it a good clip or not then in post just skip to the end of the video instead of watching through all the clips to see if you caught a fish
nice one, cheers. ive had some probs with my gopro automatically going from rabbit to non rabbit mode during a long dive session. All of a sudden a double sound means it stops filming instead of starting without me really noticing before its too late.. have you ever had this problem?
Laurent Pialet I let the camera do its own ISO. I used to run protune flat on the older gopros but with the 7 I’m happy enough with the standard footage. I am still experimenting a bit though.
May seam like a silly question . But will ask anyway. How did you get the gopro to zoom while its mounted to your head. Ps : love your video amazing what you can learn in 8mins . Thank you
That was really cool, I wish more people would share the info on how they film stuff so everyone can share their edits in quality!
dstick1 cheers mate
hey brother -- great tips!
question: what field of view do you normally have it set to? Wide? Superwide?
Does anyone know are there any new tips regarding the settings for the GoPro for spearfishing?
how do you put the mask, the headmount, and the hood? mask first or headmount first?

What angle to you recommend the GoPro should be at when wearing it on a mask?

final thoughts?

Sweet vid mate. Amazon sell a GoPro 7 case that fits the lense cover in for $20 AUS. I use that over the $80 case from JB

To clarify, are you saying that you no longer need to remove the lens like you do with the normal casing to fit the camera inside?

I thought the normal housing was water proof.. do use the extra housing for extra protection??
Thank you! There is not 50FPS for Gopro 5, only 48 or 60 with 2.7 resolution so I guess the bets option is 48 fps?
To get 50fps I think you switch to PAL from NTSC
