    Sarah, this coverage of Burning Man was so well done that it should be shown on the History channel as a documentary of the 2023 event. You did an excellent job including the fantastic narration. You should be very proud of this video.

    *WHAT A BRILLIANT PRESENTATION* ! Compared to what was being presented on the News channels and other individual videos, this has got to be one of the finest on RUclips covering this event ! Well done Sarah Jane. You've shown all the others how it is to be done. 💯💢

      The difference in most other individual's videos is they did just clips of this mess and that mess, and don't have the experience of scripting a full feature 'documentary' video like she does. And of course the news is limited to showing the worst in less than 2 minutes.

    Wonderhussy, "We are having a blast!"

    • @jazzcatt
      @jazzcatt Год назад +27

      The thing is, the news was actually telling the truth. Yes, vehicles were badly stuck in the mud, especially the idiots that tried to drive through 4 to 6 inches of surface water, not knowing how thick and deep the mud underneath was! They did it to themselves after being told to stay in place. The ones without food and water were being supported by the ones like Sarah, who truly understand the concept of self reliance and impromptu kitchens set up by Burners. Yes, there was some stealing of food and water by jerks that don't understand what self reliance means. You carry MUCH more than you need, and are ready for anything and everything the desert can, and does, throw at you. When you leave, and go through the reservation, you donate your unopened, unused, extra food to the 'food bank' on the res. Burners feed a lot of hungry Paiute people with those donations!

      I remember when week long winter electric outages were pretty common in our rural community. Most people were pretty well prepared and expected it. The recent arrivals might freak out a little but quickly realized it really wasn't a serious problem. There was plenty of supplies to go around. If a big tree fell and blocked the road people would arrive with chainsaws and the road would be reopened quickly. A lot of us kind of looked forward to it. Seems like the news media wanted to turn this years Burning Man into a major disaster but for many of the attendees it was anything but a tragedy.

I took this year off, and as all of the insanity was pouring down the news cycle, I knew that all my hardcore burners were there celebrating life, regardless of the rain and mud. 2007 was my first year. And each year since, I lament the devolution/evolution of participation. But there is still a core of those magical folks that work so hard all year to make Going Home so incredibly special for all of us. I do hope one of these days our rainbow pads will cross somewhere out there in the big wild West! I was looking forward to this video! It was a weird burn, but awesome! After 10 years, I felt the same about it feeling very "normal" and not as magical in some ways when I first got on playa, but the rain stirred things up a bit! As a long time, older Burner (1998 - 2010 and a couple of others) I enjoyed your report. It looked like burn night and the temple were more like 1998 with 15,000 total in attendance. Great stuff!

    The NEWS IS TERRIBLE!! I laughed when they said people are running out of food and water within a couple days. These people were going for a WEEK and USUALLY in the HOT HEAT. They should have brought enough food and water for that. WHY would they run out so soon when the weather was cooler? SO HAPPY you are safe and had an INTERESTING historical burning man. Glad to finally hear from you!!

    I’m a corporate pilot and had several calls to come rescue stranded campers at burning man. The money was 4 and 5 times normal rates but I wasn’t taking a chance getting stuck in the mud on the airfield in a 7 million dollar plane in addition passengers tracking mud and dust on the seats and carpet. I could have chartered an older aircraft and had it detail cleaned at the rates people we willing to pay but it wasn’t worth the hassle. Hope everyone gets home we safe.

    So much fun to watch this and it's nice to see that the good ol' Burner humor is still around. I've been going since 2006 and have taken a few years off due to the heat, crowds, and that pesky "playa-pneumonia". I remember the day-long dust storm of 2008 that nearly canceled the Burn and people were freaking out then, but it didn't make the national news. Sometimes you just have to chill and go with the flow.

    Glad your experience renewed your faith in Burning Man. Thanks for the humorous coverage of reality: it was hard to find any news other than grim predictions and reports about the event for days while mainstream news and internet focus was maximum fear-factor.
    As I saw, after searching on-line, people with true Burner spirit like you did not panic and enjoyed the weather with creative playa mud clay sculpting and waited for better weather to enjoy the belated burning of the man, art and art cars, dancing, music and ending ceremony of the temple burn. Great coverage of the classic Burn-feel, second-half of 2023 in Blackrock City. ☔🔥💃
