I am so happy that someone finally talked about their less than ideal High School Years. I really hated High School I was called the Weiner girl because I sold Hot dogs at lunchtime. A job that one of my teachers convinced me to do to break out of my shell. Like you I didn’t conform with the dress code and was sort of Punk in the late 70’s, I am now 63. I never went to my graduation and never spoke to anyone from that High School again, joined the Army then after 17 years of that went back to school and became a Nurse, now retired. Sometimes the fringe kids just make better adults and are way more interesting. Thanks for being you. My husband and I love your videos.😊
About a year ago, I collected up all my yearbooks from high school and took a box cutter to them all. I mean, why would I want to keep a memento of what was easily the worst years of my life? I remember my Dad once saying, "Enjoy these years, kiddo, they'l be the best years of your life," and I said, "IT GETS WORSE???"
I agree. Highschool (even middle school) can suck. The only good thing about those days is you live your parents and don't have the financial stress you do when you the nest.
When you'd graduated in '94, I'd already been teaching middle school for over ten years. During my more than three decade teaching career I taught lots of kids like you. Some of them I have fond memories of. Some were pains in the a55, but the main thing is you turned out to be a great human being. I hope you're proud of yourself now. I also have some regrets of making fun of and teasing other kids, including my younger sister. She's since forgiven me. As you know, kids do things that they might be sorry for later but hopefully we live and learn from our mistakes. I have two smart, beautiful daughters of my own now that I'm very proud of as I'm sure that your mother is proud of her daughters now in spite of what you might have done growing up. I really enjoyed your story. I live in a small town and run into many of my former students who still remember me and I remember them still as they were many years ago.
GREAT story, I established myself my last year of Middle School, my family were the only Native American family in basically an all-White town in 1970's Colorado. So, I was somewhat of an outcast as well. But we had a girl who was a true albino, the whitest skin and hair, right down to a pink cast to her eye color, kids would just mercilessly tease her at school and walking home from the school bus, even go so far as to throw rocks at her, and chant "run bunny!" I felt so bad for her, that one day I had enough, I don't know why I decided? but I became her protector, with a multitude of vicious fist fights, both male and female over that year, honestly her and I rarely spoke, I would just walk with her providing her safety. Her mother would always open the door for her and tentatively wave at me with a smile, but never speak, But my reputation proceeded me into High School, so I was pretty much left alone and was feared, A side effect of which I wasn't expecting honestly. LOL.. What happened to the girl? I really don't know, I can't even remember her name, but her family moved away the summer between Middle School and High School, but I always hoped she has a great and happy life today.
Kudos for the yearbook story.! At age 70, I am still debating about sharing some of my own personal stories about discovering who I am and the way I perceive others.
My dad was in the army in Germany as well in the 70's. He was stationed in giessen and met my mom there. He did his time and came back home to California and brought her over. My mom took us back a few times when we were kids in the 80's.

You ABSOLUTELY have to go to your next HS reunion! You have to show them they did not beat you 😁 You are such an amazing human and loved by so many. I think you may be as surprised as me that the people you thought were so different, have grown up. Haha A very few still try to be someone better than everyone...but I always have a blast at all of my reunions. WH, I have loved this walk down memory lane. Thanks for sharing your memories 😍
High school reunions really suck. Mine looked like a WWI triage unit. No one successful goes only the ones to whom High school was the high point of their lives. All the bitter 40 year old maids with no jobs or husbands or kids. Truly the reeks and wrecks. People who never wanted to see you again. Failure, failure, failure. Class of 74. Even your old doper friends now embarrassed by it never want to see you again. Ce la vie.
You nailed it ...especially that high school was the high point of their lives , everything went down hill from there. I moved away have a successful career. When I go back home on occasion, I sometimes see people I went to high school with, and after 20 years ,they are still the same, still not doing anything with their lives and only want to talk about high school days. I'm always thinking ,these people live in the past , which doesn't exist , they never do anything great with their lives , just living stagnant in the same old town ....I can't leave fast enough, after I visit ...✌
I think your style in high school was absolutely amazing, and it also reminds me of when I was in my twenties kind of what inspired the hipsters to dress how they did. I was a hipster when I was younger and I loved all the old clothing and the weird accessories and stuff like that!
You're so good for me! I'm old now, 78, but vividly remember going to high school in Utah and being pretty much the only non Mormon and got beaten up for that several times starting in grade school. You help me because you don't seem to put up with much crap and you make me laugh. I went on to be an airline stew in the early 60's, very exotic back then. Met some of the Rat Pack. Stayed at The Sands pretty often. I aspire to try shrooms, see Death Valley on the ground, very much on my bucket list! Thanks for you being you. Love ya!
Definitely want to do shrooms on the ground, and in Death Valley I'd choose winter time, the desert heat can greatly effect your experience. Maybe a nice camp with a good wood fire and plenty of good spirits close by, like some hot tea or some decent wine 🍄🥂
I would have graduated in 1982 , but if I had been in the class of 94 , I would have totally dug you , carried your books ,polished your purse, and walked you home safely every day.❤😊
It's so weird how we are so similar today, I explore in a taco as well. Now I see we were quite similar when we were younger too. In 1994 I was voted "biggest trouble maker" ..me and a guy had a similar photo to the one you showed. I also colored my hair all the time. What a great time that was. We went different routes as we aged though..I married young, joined the military, and had kiddos. Now retired I travel fulltime exploring but since I don't need money I don't do videos like you ( too much work). Thanks for this video, it brought me back down memory lane 👍
I wore those giant platforms in the 70s! And I had Gunne Sax dresses ... wish I'd kept them. My favorite was a deep, green velvet one with a lace-up, plunging neckline....
I am class of '94, and was an outsider as well. No wonder I love your channel so much and can relate to SO much of what you say and your way of seeing things! 🤪 Your HS stories had me laughing so much!
I would ABSOLUTELY talk to You ! In High School I loved girls who were outsiders and had a creative imagination ! Can't wait to meet you ! My father was in the military, and we traveled ( 4 high schools in 4 years). Accepted at San Francisco Art Institute and admire your artistic side !
Enjoyed watching your video on your early life especially high school. My wife and I grew up in the Bay Area and stayed there until 1996. We had 3 daughters at the time. Our two older daughters (especially the oldest) loved to dress like you did and dyeing their hair different colors . I never forget when my oldest one came by the pharmacy where I was a pharmacist with emerald green hair. The reaction of my coworkers especially the pharmacy manager was priceless! Even when we moved to Roseville in Placer County didn't change much. Our youngest was born literally 3 days after we moved giving us 4 daughters. Imagine trying to raise 4 daughters. Listening to you talk about your life then brought back a lot memories of my daughters and our life then. My oldest was always having visits in the principles office LOL. You always bring a smile to my face ☺️
WondrerHussy those year books are usually coated with a gloss or something like plastic on the pages.......you might be able to remove the sharpy without effecting what's under it at all....rubbing alcohol dissolves sharpie ink
Sarah Jane, I think this is one of the funniest videos you've ever made. Thank you, it made me laugh. What's that old saying, you were a rebel looking for a cause?
That was a great story about your French Club. Nice to actually see what your sister looked like. She’s been such a mystery woman when it comes to being seen in your videos. Be really interesting if some of the people you mentioned were really watching this video. Then get ahold of you after all this time and thank you for your consideration. The fact that you owned up to your prank says a lot about you. I appreciate your integrity and strength of character. C’est magnifique
Thanks for sharing. You don't seem too warped by your varied experiences. BTW there is a punchline at the end of "Nine to Five" when the bosses sneaky assistant comes home from France. It was hers, and my, first exposure to a new French word.
Sorry MOM, so glad you told your mom sorry for all the bad things that happened, we all need to. My mother was gone before I could tell her. Thanks Sarah, you have a beautiful life now, and make everybody smile, you are the best, made me laugh so much today, love ya.
I think they know. I know there is an unspoken bond between truly connected people. I have felt it twice in my life for my mom and a roommate when they passed over. Yeah treasure your mother at least the good part. :)
Oh, you were a handful, but what a funny story. I grew up in San Jose - attended Del Mar High school - worked at the IBM plant. I think you mentioned that you worked there for a short period.
High school was never fun for me. The only time I was the "insider" was in the first grade (outside of the US) in my neighborhood school. Then I transferred to a different school in a different district while still living at the same place. I think since then I always been an outsider. High school in the US was a much different experience, but I didn't speak much English after we moved. So it was difficult and sometimes surreal experience. Saw many hot girls. Had a couple of crushes. Magical thing - you don't really speak English, and then you're tongue tied when these girls were around. Absolutely breath taking experience. I didn't know what to say, how to say it and what to do. Crazy stuff. Update: I love that yearbook story with French. Absolutely funny!
So sad..when two people have a crush on each other and neither one is brave enough to break the ice I bet many of us down here went through the same thing So sad..
Hello sarah. It's Ted from Texas. Thank you for bringing us into your life further from the past showing us your high school. That's pretty cool. You were good looking back then and you're still great looking now. I am happy to know you and watch your videos.
In high school the seniors always did a prank. The most memorable prank involved the flagpole in front of the school and hundreds of plastic pink flamingos (gathered from *many* lawns of a nearby suburb). In the morning the 80' high flagpole had old tires over its entire height AND it was surrounded by hundreds of pink flamingos.
I did'nt let high school get me down because I was focused on MY goals, worked at Hillsdale Mall in San Mateo, which you may have heard about, when Bay Meadows
Greatings Wonderhussy, your history of wearing costumes in high school is entertaining and interesting! I think it would be great for you to re-create your high school costumes for a future video.
High school is such a weird phase of our lives. Everyone trying to "leave their mark", attempting to stand out in some way - to be remembered. For something. Anything! My granddaughters are going through this. It seemed so unnecessary then, and still does. I guess that unmasks my outsiderness (then and now). Sarah, we share similar stories - some funny, some sad, some embarrassing. Perhaps it's a good thing we didn't have social media back then.
funny thing is.. I don't remember anything about the so called popular kids in my school lol. I just remember the group I was in and thats really about it and maybe the random person in some classes I had. Otherwise I wanted to avoid pretty much everyone. I got into fights with kids who thought I wouldn't fight back with.
I was stationed in Kaiserslautern, GE near Ramstein AFB. I remember seeing Mark Twain Elementary school when I visited a friend in Patrick Henry Village outside of Heidelberg and Campbell Barracks. We drove thru Mark Twain village just looking around. It was a beautiful area especially during the Weinachten Festival (Xmas festival).
Sarah, this is so good, and the 'wankers' at the end is so funny. I spent quite some time explaining to one of my US buddies just what 'wanker' means...hilarious!
👋 Hi Sarah, Those dresses which everyone is calling gunne sax dresses were the absolute 💯 % "in style" clothes that you could wear in the 1970's. The material was called "gauze". All the top boutique stores carried "mostly gauze" clothes. A lot of them had crocheted 💐flowers🌹or crocheted anything on them. And if they had the little mirrors 🪞 crocheted on them, then they were priceless. My Aunt took me shopping at Harvard Square in Cambridge, MA. in the the 70's and that was basically all the material that the clothes were made out of. All gauze. Nothing else. I found a couple with embroidery and mirrors. I felt so lucky. I wore those my whole senior year in High School. I'm basically your Mom's age. Another thing you talked about was Kelly Bundy. What Kelly wore was the Top Style at that time. Tight fitting dresses and fish net stockings or black lace stockings were top, top trendy styles of Kelly Bundy's high school days. I wore those fishnet and lace stockings myself up until a few years ago. Anyway, back to the gauze material clothes......Just ask your Mom about the gauze dresses and gauze shirts. I think she will tell you the same answer about those clothes. However.....Whatever we all wore in High School didn't matter. And it didn't influence anything about our life when we got out of High School. It's what we actually did with our lives and the choices we made with our lives that are what really influenced our lives. I'm sure starting your UTube channel was your life changer. You're amazing and a super, gifted storyteller. And this video about your high school days and high school life was beyond words that I could describe. Just an amazing gift that you have to offer the world with your channel.
It was really interesting to hear a story from your high school days! I was just one year under you from a so cal high school so I think I can relate a bit about....lets just say....the era. You are a gem, Wonderhussy. I wish I had an ounce of the courage you have!
I was a very quiet girl until provoked. Spent alot of time defending the kids that would get picked on. When my step dad died I started to get in more trouble skipping class or school . Well had two daughters and had to grow up lol. Thank you for your videos you seem like a cool lady and definitely have a gift of gab and put it to use .✌❤🙂
I love your show. I lived in San Jose 67 years; grew up in Cambrian Park and went to Leigh High, class of 1972. We lived in Willow Glen 1990-2021 until we escaped to Oregon. My high-school friend Dave Auchard was swim coach at Gunderson before he went into tech. I was born in Fallon, NV but we lived in Gabbs.
1995 was the year I graduated college with a five-year bachelor degree earned in three years due to triple loads. I was 35 and working odd jobs. My college experience was nothing like the typical student. In high school I was running a ranch and too busy to give a crap about anything other than getting done with school with high grades and getting the hell out of the ranch and desert life. My first day of high school, in Roy Rogers home town, I was on a bus after a thirty five mile ride in the school parking lot. Some kid came in riding a horse. The principal came and took his guns. He then took his horse to the FFA corral. At the end of the day, the principal came out and gave him back the guns.
OMG, high school was not fun for me being a fat girl and never fitting in. My best friend was very popular with the in crowd. Even though I was a misfit, she never stopped being my friend to this day. I have embraced who I am and proud of the woman I have become. Cheers to the ones that don't fit in, you are unique in your own way.
This is awesome! Grew up military and relate hard to the class separation. Officers kids vs enlisted kids. Graduated in '92 and this whole story was like reliving high school! Love it... or hate it!
Sarah: I'm sorry (while having the biggest smile 😁) ROFL, Epic yearbook story! (Observation)You sure were in a lot of yearbook pictures for being an outsider.
Ms. Wonderhussy, you've done a LOT of GREAT videos, but this was one of your ***BEST*** ever!!!! I had such a great time watching and listening to all of your amazing high school stories -- Thanks!!!!
I loved this video! And it was nice to finally see a picture of your sister. You have never said her name, would you consider giving her a nickname other than Sis, like you have done for others who don't want to be known in your videos?
I'm just so happy to know you went to school in Santa Cruz my Santa Cruz sweatshirt was white and I loved wearing it in high school and the old thrasher sweatshirt of my friends was one of my favorite too
Hilarious! It's sounds like you found a good way to develop the skills necessary for your adult life. You're still a rebel, but a very smart and entertaining one.
I was kinda nerdy so I started a rock garage band with my musical friends. I could sing White Rabbit like Grace Slick and I played rythm guitar and could just pick up songs by ear and teach the band quickly cause I could just play any instrument! Anyway....that's how I got through High school!!!
Today i got some very depressing news that's really got me down. I drive for a living and I usually listen funny videos and music my entire 14 hr shift, today I wasn't in the mood for either. I'm so glad I clicked on this video. It was the first time I today that I smiled🙂 the story telling of your highschool misadventures felt like a 90s time machine. That was around my time too (class of 99) I don't know if you remember 17 magazine school zone section. I would get completely lost in those magazines, from the ocean scenery fold out perfume sample page, to marveling at the trends, and popular bands section No Doubt, The WallFlowers, Savage Garden, Green day so nostalgic 🥹 that's what your year book reminded me of 😄 made me totally forget my troubles for a while. Thanks for sharing!😊🩷
After graduating from high school, I went to college for four years and joined the Navy for six years . My 10 year high school reunion was just after I got out of the Navy and I went to it. I remember that I was one of the only persons there that wasn't married. At the dinner I was seated next to the guy who was the toughest one in school that everyone was afraid of who beat up many of my classmates! He was married now and sat there with his nice wife and seemed not to be so mean. What a change 10 years can make. We talked about old times and had some good laughs. Do you still have your tea kettle? If so give it a good polishing with Brasso since it probably needs a good touch up after 30 years.
Pretty cool to hear Gunderson in a YT video. I didn't go there, but I drive by there at least once a week... and one of my childhood buddies went there (graduated a few years before you though).

Ce la vie.
Breakfast club vibes ,🤣😎🤔☯️💪👍✌️😧😥😁🥱
Was that a black eye to compliment the two tone Pepe lapew hair .
If she goes I'll go. Be intresting..
Miss Hussie,
I'm very proud of you. You've become a LoveIy young woman, in spite of your adolescent chaos. God Bless you, Sweetie.
Love ❤,
Andy Eppink
What fun!! Felt like a real life Romy and Michele movie. Which I love. And I loved all your stories!! Epic!
I graduated in 75, I had a gunne sax wedding dress and cork platform shoes. Crazy days
I think your style in high school was absolutely amazing, and it also reminds me of when I was in my twenties kind of what inspired the hipsters to dress how they did. I was a hipster when I was younger and I loved all the old clothing and the weird accessories and stuff like that!
Hi Wonderhussy, i'm stuck in my chair for a couple days, and i couldn't stop laughing out loud non stop listening to your yearbook stories...Thanks!
Did you get beat up by mormons?
You did what most of us wanted to do in High School. More power to you in your past.
So awesome Sarah… thanks for sharing your HS trauma with us! Wish you had an avenue to sing in high school… yours is a beautiful voice.
she sings sometimes and its terrible, what do youy mean?
@@djizzah you need to have your ears checked!
Your HS stories had me laughing so much!
Oh, I so remember the Gunne Sax dresses and platform shoes!!!! I was a teen in the ‘70’s.
Another fantastic story, thanks for keeping it real.
Love your show WH . I'm almost 73 , and still learning .., keeping up with your incite and experience and Humour !!
⤴️⤴️
That is, without doubt, the best yearbook story of all time!
Facts
Maybe she will tell the one about what she did at Tim Mackey’s party in his parents bedroom with the baseball team.
I graduated the same year, and I gotta say, you're holding up sooooooo much better than me!
This video was so very brilliant Sarah. Storytime is a blast with you, thank you 🌞😎
High school was never fun for me.
You rock Wonderhussy! If we can’t come up with some bad with a pure heart, we ain’t shit
⤴️⤴️
..
So sad..when two people have a crush on each other and neither one is brave enough to break the ice I bet many of us down here went through the same thing So sad..
he's probably pole smoker or a pillhead now lol
Hello sarah. It's Ted from Texas. Thank you for bringing us into your life further from the past showing us your high school. That's pretty cool. You were good looking back then and you're still great looking now. I am happy to know you and watch your videos.
In high school the seniors always did a prank. The most memorable prank involved the flagpole in front of the school and hundreds of plastic pink flamingos (gathered from *many* lawns of a nearby suburb). In the morning the 80' high flagpole had old tires over its entire height AND it was surrounded by hundreds of pink flamingos.
You’re one of a kind Wonderhussy!😁 Don’t ever change!
Oh my!! I wore some wooden sole sandals like that on a day trip to Salzburg, Austria. Did NOT work well with the COBBLESTONE Streets!!!
⤴️⤴️
Love this! You are a great storyteller! Looking forward to more stories ❤
She is just awesome ❤️🙏
I went to Leland High and played basketball🤙 Played against Gunderson in 93 and 94
Sarah, this is so good, and the 'wankers' at the end is so funny. I spent quite some time explaining to one of my US buddies just what 'wanker' means...hilarious!

👋 Hi Sarah,
Those dresses which everyone is calling gunne sax dresses were the absolute 💯 % "in style" clothes that you could wear in the 1970's.
I have never known anyone who has the ability to talk endlessly like you…. You are a hoot
We love you in Arizona wonder Hussey!
Tucson fan here!
I've now watched your video to the end, SOOOOO GOOD, thanks aging for sharing .... I think we are twins, with my crazy stories
It’s always good to be different. Nothing fun about being exactly same as whatever is going on.
Sarah, I laughed so hard! Thanks for sharing!
Wow! That school is in my old 'hood. A bunch of my friends went to "Gunderscum" in this time. They were the punks, metalheads, goths, and skaters
Yes
This is awesome! Grew up military and relate hard to the class separation. Officers kids vs enlisted kids. Graduated in '92 and this whole story was like reliving high school! Love it... or hate it!
Sarah: I'm sorry (while having the biggest smile 😁)
ROFL, Epic yearbook story!
(Observation)You sure were in a lot of yearbook pictures for being an outsider.
Thanks for the stories. You had me remembering my Adolesent Adventures in the late 70s early 80s . Cheers😉
Now you have to go to your high school reunion…I need closure!
😂😂😂
26:42 Yes, I remember that one from Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure. Remember when Napoleon rolls a gutter ball at the bowling alley?
That's hilarious. You're an amazing storyteller.
I was still in the Navy and stationed at NAS Lemoore, Ca. Just 4 years left to retire.
I was always an “outsider” as well, but for different reasons. Anyway, enjoyed this episode of personal history.💕
Ms. Wonderhussy, you've done a LOT of GREAT videos, but this was one of your ***BEST*** ever!!!!
I had such a great time watching and listening to all of your amazing high school stories -- Thanks!!!!
Absolutely wonderful stories and personal history. Thanks.
(21:44) Apology for being such a jerk to the poor Gal. Excellent work Sweetie! You did the right thing.
And you continue to leave ur mark on your many fans. Keep marking wonder. Ye old funny girl.
You are a fabulous storyteller! As usual, you’re very entertaining!
Hilarious! You are a great story teller. Nobody wants to look back and hear how well behaved and boring someone was. Epic caper!
Omg, I am a retired teacher and will have to say that was absolutely BRILLIANT!!!!! You left your mark alright...lmao
Merci 🤣
🦁
LOL , you did mention in a previous video that you had a copper tea kettle as a purse . Now , photographic proof !
I was kinda nerdy so I started a rock garage band with my musical friends. I could sing White Rabbit like Grace Slick and I played rythm guitar and could just pick up songs by ear and teach the band quickly cause I could just play any instrument! Anyway....that's how I got through High school!!!
Mad respect!!!
I wish we could still get the original Brasso formula. Picked some up about ten years ago it was crap. :(
@@jbman413 If it hasn't solidified yet, I should still have some leftover from my Air Force days, in the mid '80's.
Pretty cool to hear Gunderson in a YT video. I didn't go there, but I drive by there at least once a week... and one of my childhood buddies went there (graduated a few years before you though).
