  • "Real Parts" is a term used within the Film Prop Collecting Community to describe a prop replica or parts used to make a prop replica that are the exact same as used by the prop department of a particular film or series. This is often a difficult and expensive type of hobby as the parts in question are often rare or entirely unavailable. Even more often they tend to be apart of a piece of equipment or model that is in itself valued by another genre of collecting.
Recreating props from their original parts is one of my favorite things, as it allows me to not only explore the process of the build, but to get a glimpse into the imagination that went into its development.
In this video. The Book of The Dead from The Mummy (1999)
This prop is a resin kit cast from the original Stunt Prop from the production

I’ve been looking for a metal replica of the key for so long. All I’ve found is blood, and sand.

Love the way you added "sand" to the details! 💛 Definitely sets your prop video apart!

It bugs me to no end that it doesn't open and that it loses a lot up close due to crudity of the details but I am impressed by the prop recreation as a whole. Color me conflicted.

That's what you get with a stunt prop sadly. They're never really meant to be seen up close

@@PropsToHistory Yeah I get that the stunt prop was used in stunts and they wouldn't want it popping open. However I think those things (mostly lack of function) may be the reason this hasn't blown up. Either that or I just have an inordinately high opinion of books. Worth noting, when my wife walked in and saw the screen she immediately asked if it opened. I think people just want props from universes they love to function. It validates the story in a way.

Where's the best place to source for the resin parts for this prop? Raw definitely looks the way to go, you really made this prop your own!

The fella that owns the molds has stopped making them entirely. Hes on the RPF (replica prop forum) to my knowledge, only 6 were ever made. I'm currently working on the book of amun ra (the gold one) as a fully working prop. Thanks :)

I am doing research into this piece. I would like to make a screen accurate functional Hero prop. But there is not a lot of photos of the screen used prop. Adam Savage did one recently on tested with the Book of the Living and he gets it open and you can see some of the pages. Do you know where the screen used Hero props of this one are? Great video the end result looks so good!

Two Questions: 1. Do you ever do vacuum forming? 2. What a good resource for learning to make molds and cast resin (is there a formal community online?)?

can you design the mechanic that makes the lock on the book actually work ?
i seen many 3D printed replica, but none of them has this mechanic.
whis is sad since thats the main gimick of the book. (at least, theorically, it can be done in real life)...

Listen bud I wasn't trying to offend you. As I said there a couple times I am a huge fan of yours. Maybe I didn't explain my point properly. What I was trying to say is please leave the hot button issues alone and stick to the "props and history". I didn't insult you or call you name's. I didn't even say that I disagree with you. All I was trying to say is to leave these uncomfortable hot button issues alone. It serves no good purpose. I watch tik tok to unplug from the berage of this crap that I see on the news all the time. With that being said I sincerely apologize for offending you and to keep up the good work on "props and history" even if you don't want me to see it. God speed to you
