  • Arnold, my old fencing training dummy on a visit to Sheffield Buccaneers Fencing Club. I made this about 20 years ago, he's a bit battered and worn out now but he still has some life in him.

Ok, this is so cool! I'm going to have to construct something similar. Thanks for the idea.

How did you build this dummy? It would be great if you can list the supplies that you used. Thanks!

Well it was somewhat improvised. I just worked with bits of wood, bolts, springs, hinges, some chain etc. until I had something which did what I wanted it to do. The end of the video shows a bit of what is going on with the arm. There were no plans or "list of supplies". He is currently on loan to one of our fencers

    Is the dummy home made?

AdamBlight I would be curious as to how, working on a model for a static one. If you have drawings to share I would be very grateful.

I didn't do any drawings, it was somewhat trial and error. The end of the video shows the arm construction inside the sleve, blade and arm positions can be adjusted by hooking the springs to different links on the chain, the forearm uses two pivoting bits of wood which means that the point of the foil stays more or less forward when the arm moves. A better version of this would perhaps be made using something like aluminium I think.
