So you naughty boys crept over the border and sneaked a couple out in my neck of the woods! A lot of that river upstream and downstream of the city is available on a 7 nicker day ticket (Earl of Harrington AC) and about 15 miles of the T&M canal that skirts the city also available on day ticket (Pride of Derby AC) so a fair bit for visiting anglers. Still a bit low though, really need some rain to freshen things up. Anchor Church pools are on the Burton Mutual ticket and day tickets if accompanied by a member., nowhere near as good as sick boy made out though 😅 Most of the Trent is private clubs but Andy Buckley (IB & Andy) guides on the Burton on Trent sections if you fancy it in the future. 👍😎

I reckon that little Pike will be fine. I lost one under a massive pile of weed yesterday and lost the trace and lure. Only a single hook so hopefully the Pike will be okay. But still makes you feel a bit bad 😱🎣

Seen hooks in pike's eyes, ripped out gill rakers, the lot. At least you were bothered. Some lures are ridiculously over armed for the job and were designed for when all fish were taken for the table.
In all seriousness, anchor church is a banging place to fish on the right day, the water can be crystal clear and you can see shoals of fish getting stalked by some decent pike. If you need clear directions to the place let me know👍🏼
I have no clue how I missed this one till now but I 'fowndidit' so all's good, hearing Sean under that bridge in Dearby made me chuckle when he said we are from Burmingham, reminded me of a 16 year old me up in the lakes saying exactly the same thing just before getting mugged for my rod, reel and a box of maggots, well the 3 fellas did look hungry so I don't begrudge them the maggots, just a good job my creel was out of sight. It's bloody horrible knowing you have caused trauma to a fish and not being able to do anything about it so you have my sympathy, but it went back and will return to the canal food chain whichever end it ends up in.

I use a carp care kit for pike. Something like propolis can give the fish a fighting chance when accidents happen. It is good fishing pr for inquisitive public when we whip out the fish med kit!
That little pike should be fine. Maybe think about carrying some antiseptic spray for injuties like this. It can really help the healing of a gash like that. At least stop infections.

Derwent is a top quality river for attracting weirdos. Had one guy come fish next to me along there and spend 20 minutes pretending he was playing a barbel when he was clearly snagged. A fully grown adult man. Surprised you didn't find the guy's spot and fishing rod with such specific instructions though. Swarkestone Bridge and Ingleby are only a mere several miles from each other 😂

@@SnaggedBro id recommend lamprey as a bait on longer sessions as it has lots of blood and oil plus a a thick skin. st james brackley is very good for pike a min of 2 per session going up to 25lb

Like I say, I only have a useable left arm and as I've got older it's become hard work transporting a two quiver rod, pod and bucket of feed bait setup so I'm switching to a lure setup for ease of transport and mobility... 100% about the lures. I fit all mine with barbless singles now. Hook up rate is still good but minimal damage and far less weed.

When you are fishing for pike, do you use wire or a thicker diametre fluorocarbon?
Use wire if your targeting pike.
If your targeting zander or perch a thicker fluorocarbon will be alright 👍
And you can use thin fluro for zander and perch if you know 100% there are no pike there. But i generally just fish with wire as pike lurk most places
@@-BOOMA- fluro traces in my opinion are better as they’re virtually invisible I’ve never been cut and they last for ages but just personal preference
We always use wire trace for Pike 👌🏼 never gets cut. If your gonna use a super strong fluro like 60lb you might aswell use trace 🤷🏼♂️
