How has cooking been? Any issues or anything that you would have changed in the build? Thanks
I have cooked on it about 5 times now. No major issues. The only problem I have had is me forgetting to put the cover on and the catch tray fills up with water.
Oh and I would put more heavy duty wheels on. The ones that I put on work, but if I start moving it a lot I think they might give out.
@@MakersLane thanks for the info. I just built one using your video as a guide. I’m happy with how it turned out, just was concerned with heat around the grill area. Thanks again.
Glad I could help! Send me the picture of the finished product - makerslaneco@gmail.com
Would love to see what you created! 👍
@@MakersLane will do!
Here are a couple of tips that make assembly slightly easier ruclips.net/user/postUgkxCx5fHawkK9OoV-ojFrY8JLnZrFwAmvUt . 1) One person can assemble, but if you have a buddy to help, it will make it go faster - especially steps 1-3 and 8 (the legs aren't heavy but can be difficult to hold while screwing things in). Step 8, 1st part will take some time unless you have two more hands OR are really lucky. 2) Use a socket wrench! 3) Step 7, 3rd part - the flame carry over tube has an open side, MAKE SURE THE OPEN SIDE IS FACING THE FRONT. If it's facing the back, the tube won't work. 4) Step 10, 3rd part - if you don't have small hands (I don't, they're gigantic) getting the nut on is really difficult (but not impossible). It took me about 4 hours to assemble, but I took a "union break" every 60-90 minutes and ate a quick lunch. Also, I'm really OCD so I took my time, looked at the instructions carefully, and cleaned up as I went.
WOW. GREAT JOB WATCHING YOU WORK WAS SO EDUCATIONAL YOU REMIND ME OF THE OLD DAYS WHEN I WAS A KID BACK IN THE 1970S WE DIDN'T HAVE ALL WHAT IS AVAILABLE TODAY WE HAD TO CREATE ANYTHING FROM SCRATCH I REMEMBER BUILDING A WOODEN BOX CLUB HOUSE OUT OF THE LOCAL FRUIT MARKETS EMPTY WOOD BOXES ALSO ME AND MY FRIENDS BUILT OUT SCOOTER WITH OLD ROLLER-SKATES WITH A 2X4 AND A MILK CREATE ALSO GO-KARTS WITH WOOD & BABY CARRIAGE WHEELS THOSE WERE THE DAYS SO ANYWAY KEEP BUILDING BECAUSE PEOPLE LIKE WATCHING ....GOD BLESS YOU & YOUR FAMILY
Thanks
I love it. The only change I would make is hardy backer around where the grill sits for an extra measure of protction from the flames.
Your idea and design is absolutely awesome, only fault I can find is the paint job but thats minor. Maybe try adding a small vent to the cabinet underneath for any trapped gas and maybe insulate the area around the flat grill with some cement board to help reduce any risks of fire. Great Job dude!
Im not sure if it would be better for this application since it is around food, but maybe try using Bluing Liquid to turn the stainless steel black.
Great project. You're a good example of the principle the perfect is the enemy of the good. You do great work. It's not crazy fine woodworking, but it is good looking and functional and I'd be proud if I built your stuff. Keep it going, man!
Thanks man appreciate the compliment!
Done is always better than perfect.
I like the overall looks of it but I see a few issue. The griddle is sitting on a wood base. If you would pour concrete on top of the wood base it would reflect the heat back to the burners and griddle. That would also protect the wood from possible fire. One other thing is venting the bottom cabinet, putting a vent at the bottom (propane is heavier than air). I like the overall looks and I hope it is an inspiration to folks out there to build one. Stay safe.
Great suggestion, thanks for the feedback.
Or, instead of pouring cement, HardieBacker 1/4” cement board is lighter than it’s competitors & tested to being non-combustible.
Good idea on using concrete. You could also use concrete board like hardi backer.
I noticed the grill sitting on the wood as well. Could also use ceramic tile under it to protect the wood from burning and to deflect the heat.
@@coconutcrawler5650 Which part of the construction are you suggesting to use the hardiebacker on?
Wow. I am sooo coping you. Well the idea, yours came out well.
OMG this build is so dope!
Thank you so much
Duuuuuuude!!! Awesome job!
Thank man
This is magnificent, I luv this❤❤❤❤❤❤
What an awesome project and turned out awesome too.
Awesome job dude!!!!!!!!
Very entertaining and filled with great tips and ideas!!!!!🏆🤙🏼💪🏼
No problem, glad to help.
Having worked in restaurant kitchens, I would recommend that you get a piece of stainless steel bent up to fit in the area under the griddle. You would be surprised at how much oil will wind up under that appliance over time.
The steel accent pieces are very nice but welding should have taken place off the stand once they have been fitted. Stitch welding would have prevented most of the steel from twisting and warping. This would have also allowed you to paint under the steel accents preventing rust from forming underneath also you could have sealed the wood under the trim to keep out moisture that can damage the wood.
Thinking of creating the same set up however here in Crete most of these outdoor kitchens are detached from the home and are equipped with a wood fired oven and bar b que that can handle a whole lamb and a full sink. I would be adding my Jenn-Air propane grill to the whole shebang. Again thanks for the idea!!!
Sick build man. Inspiring me to add some to my OG Nexgrill griddle
I would have made the grill top above the table a couple inches. Heat comes from the sides and will cook the wood.
The metal side shelfs can be used as a warmer. Also there is usually side vents for primary combustion air. Make sure you have enough clearance for that.
Two years later and how is the build holding up? Any issues with the close tolerance of the grill to the wood?
How did you deal with the heat coming off the sides and the back does that alone will be enough to burn the wood but that’s really dope
Cool design & fab!
Thanks
Quick question how is the heat around the edge of the grill to the wood? That’s kind of sort of what I wanted to do but I was worried about the heat transfer into the wood.
Recognized the Dam in your intro and was caught off guard to see such a familiar area in a RUclips recommendation! Nice build as well!
Oh cool, do you live in Dublin or just the Columbus area?
@@MakersLane I actually do live in dublin now but the bridge is recognizable because we have driven to family friends up in Shawnee hills for at least 15 years. Had to check the intersection and look for the zoo docks in the background to be sure I wasn’t just imagining the resemblance!
Nope, haha that’s it, you nailed it. Great eye dude.
Man this is very nice I'm trying to get some ideas and yours was like what I had in mind. Very beautiful
Good design and great workmanship.
The overall look of your dinning table and grill go together in a neat way.
Good job pal.. 👍
Thank you
Quick question, since the grill could get very hot... is the wood treated to avoid a fire? if so, what are you using...?
How are you cooking without burning the table from the heat of the griddle?
Got it done excellent built I love it I've been thinking of building one for myself thank you for sharing this video
You did a great job.!!! The only difference I've would have used steel framing... It's fire resistant and it doesn't warp.. on the other hand what does and it's flammable... Steel framing products you can find it home Depot Just ask him.. it's a light product that is used for commercial structure buildings easy to work with... And it's flammable resistant.. but regardless you did a great job 👍
I love that. But we are stilling moving out of blountstown already till my new home is Leesburg fla soon.
Glad you liked it
I have been tryning to build this exact same frame and im coming along well for my first build
That’s awesome, let me know how it goes. I would love to see pictures.
Awesome job. Would love to know how it held up to the heat. The vinyl cover won’t work as you anticipate. Humidity will make the flattop start to rust
Great project, is there a set of plans?
Great video! Your soundtrack kept blowing me away because I'd have to turn up the volume to hear your voice and then turn it way down due to the music volume. Cool Project!!!
Thanks, yeah I know it’s loud when I was editing it I didn’t realize I had a broken speaker. haha
This is amazing! Nicely done sir.
Nice work, looks amazing 👏 👌
Thank you
excited about your build I am with you this is really nice thank you again
Good job, looks great, I like it. I have one question, I have a griddle and have cooked on it for 5 years, I know that a lot of heat comes out from under the griddle top. How are you going to let the heat out without it causing a fire????
But great job
My comment is that I think you spent so much money doing this project and also bc you have a bunch of tools and also your time that probably is better and cheaper to buy one that is already done
All those sparks and saw dust in an enclosed area makes me anxious just watching. Looks cool but I would definitely spread the wheels out to the corners to help offset the weight and prevent it from tipping back and maybe add a concrete or heat barrier between the grill and the enclosure.
I was thinking the same thing. Using a cutoff wheel on the same chopsaw where you cut wood is sending all those sparks into your sawdust collection area. Makes for a great smoldering start to a later fire...
Love it! Awesome job mate
do you use this much? how do you handle the venting?
Very good job bro keep it up 😂😂😂💪👍👍👍😁🙏🙏
That was awesome and amazing. This my first time watching your videos I will definitely be watching more. Keep up the good work. I'm sure you will 👍🤗
Thank you, I appreciate the kind words!
The design of the entire barbecue grill is very creative and can be easily integrated. I hope to have a further understanding.🤝
Thank you for the kind words!
Love the idea, I have several issues, though. Pressure treated wood shouldn’t be used for this type of project, it is going to shrink up A LOT, especially with the amount of heat those griddles produce. Not enough ventilation in the cabinet for the propane to escape. I would for sure be worried about the amount of heat, catching all the wood on fire. Great concept, not ideal materials. ALSO, how has your shop not burned down yet, cutting steel in the dust box for the miter saw, that’s Sketch, and welding in there with sawdust all around. Just my two cents. But really nice idea.
I was thinking the same thing .
Just wondering, now that you have used this for a while, has there been any burning of the wood around where the griddle is??
Love the build want to try my own! Only issue is i see no vent or also no insulation to reflect the heat off the wood around thr grill? Can get very hot and dangerous
i was thinking about making something like this for my deck... nice work!
Thanks
Amazing dude!!!!!
Wonder how that stain held up? Your not supposed to paint or stain PT until it’s had a couple months to dry out. Plus it shrinks a lot.
Wish you were my son's friend, teach him to make Cool Things!
Looks great
so how it the wood doing to the sides and back? mine has alot of heat that comes from the sides and the back.
where does the heat vent to? Does the wood around it get hot?
I love it
Thanks
Nice work
The heat on the wood seems like it would be a concern, but what do I know? I'm not a rocket surgeon.
Thank you so much for this great video and for filming every detail start to finish! This is exactly what I'm wanting to build, so to watch you gives me so many ideas. I gasped when you painted the stainless, but you obviously knew what you were doing, everything turned out great and matched perfectly. Your family must be so proud of you, can't wait to watch your other videos!
Glad I could help inspire. You are right about the stainless steel. I should have done some better prep work. It started to peel and I had to repaint them.
Besides the venting of the enclosed spaces (to avoid trapped gas explosion) and protecting the wood from heat damage… I’d also recommend not using pressure treated wood for any surfaces that might come in contact with food. The chemicals are not good and it’s better not to play roulette with that.
That is absolutely gorgeous man!! Very nice build, really enjoying your videos!
Here I am trying to build mimy own after I was quoted 15k for a hibachi table and that was nothing fancy!
Out of curiosity, the wood won’t catch fire? And what wood did you use?
Nice dude that is beautiful. You should have pulled that router out earlier that's all.
Dude that is awesome!! I do a lot of wood working myself and build stuff all the time. I love the way it matches that nice ass table and chairs! You are talented. I need to learn to weld to incorporate that like yours. Love it!!
Thanks man! 👍
all of your music choices are so much better at 1.75x speed XD
Haha never tried it.
@@MakersLane like, the music you chose is great, but sped up just HITS
Very nice!!! Only question is would you install wheels with locks to move it around...🤜🤛🍺
If I had to do it again I wouldn’t use wheels. Maybe just make a custom dolly.
You could add caster wheels.. there's some that can take 400 lbs or more
Late to this video. Looks sharp, but three years in, how has the ventilation worked?
Other than some paint chipping it’s holding up pretty well
Ok how did u put that handle on the cutting board without extremely long screws🤔🤔
No screws, I used super glue. 🤣
I know it’s wood but what did you use and how much was it to build
Just to clarify, this would actually be a teppan rather than a hibachi. Regardless, i found this video great. Thanks.
Such nice work. I wonder what this would cost someone to have one built 🤔
Looks great but what about the heat distribution out of the sides and back of the griddle. I know there is a ton of heat that comes out between the griddle plate and the base of the griddle firebox. I have a blackstone and the side shelves aren’t much use because it melts bottles if you set them there. I would think it is enough heat to light the wood on fire and the griddle would have had to been elevated above the gap to alleviate the heat.
It gets about 100°f on the sides. Not enough to melt or burn anything.
Blackstone is much hotter at 60,000 btu and the sides and bottom get 400 degrees it would burst that surround into flames just from the heat without a radiant barrier. Hope it doesn’t happen.
It seems like it would burn the wood ? Does it get hot and have you had any problems like this ?
Nope, no problems!
Well built fire feature when it turns into a bonfire.
big brane move🤗 sir i asking you what kind of thing that you brushed at wood? i curious
Apparently you haven't considered the heat of the grill affecting the wooden frame around it. The grill will get very hot.
you have zero clearance from combustibles and no venting around the top. got any updates pics of the scorching of the wood frame?
No scorching. It doesn’t get hot enough. It stays around 140°. Not enough to burn the wood.
Ok I was worried about the wood under the burners. I am working on something just like this and thought I'd have to get some metal to set it on.
It’s really not that hot. I have cooked on it about 40 times now with no issues
That is truly an amazing build, you are very talented. One note, that is a tepenyaki. Habachi uses charcoal. Restaurants in the US use both terms mostly to get people to come in.
Praise the Lord. Amazing. God bless you nd ur fly nd ur project abundantly.
Thank you
AWESOME!!!
Looks great, Could I covert this to natural gas? Love it
I don’t see why not. I’m sure there is a RUclips video on how to do it.

did it burn down yet

Listen I love that table but you should put all the material that we need step-by-step
very nice! Are you having issues with the heat burning the wood on the sides ? on mine I know that is a place with serious heat flow that burns my chopping boards and everything placed close to it.
Nope, no issues. I get this question a lot. It only gets to about 140°. Not enough to burn the wood.
first time viewer here. having a hard time with the video because I'm playing on my projector and the music is way too loud compared to your voice. I'm constantly turning the volume down on the music portions and then completely unable to hear what you're saying for the short voice bits.
I actually stopped at 5:18 to write this comment because it was bothering me enough to pause the video for it. seems like solid content, just lower the music audio please.
I’m really sorry about that. Not my best video editing.
@@MakersLane no worries, it happens. I guarantee you that your video editing skill is significantly better than mine. Just wanted to make you aware of it so your videos can improve. Keep up the cool builds!
@@TheXak662 Thanks for the constructive feedback. 👍
You need to sell these. I would buy one.
Interesting build. How does the heat and exhaust gases vent out being enclosed now? I think I'd do something different with the wheels for stability. You did. Great job.
+
What kind of welding was that?
This was amazing! This what i need for my remodel. Are you happy with the Hibachi Grill? I don't have time built one but can you suggest where can i purchase something like your?
I like this build. I would do some things a little different like spraying the paint instead of brushing it on. Maybe would have done things in different orders too. Also the big thing… you didn’t season the dang flat top before using it. That hurt me lol
I just got a 36" Blackstone with Airfryers and it has side shelfs on it and you have to watch what you set on them from where it gets so hot on the side. And with that being said did your wood cart catch fire? They get really hot when in use....Thanks
Nope no issues. I have cooked on it about 15 times now. It gets about 110°f on the metal pieces
what i would suggest is start buying more appliances for home depot and sears etc u be the boss aka cool beans .
Thank you👍
That is nice
Love the design, How do you access the grease trap?
What paint was used for metal?
Nice
Lane...awsome job on your hibachi grill...can you send me the amount if lumber you used to make that project..i want to make one too. Thanks Perry
Thanks, unfortunately I don’t have the exact amount of lumber I used for this project. Sorry
