Just a quick tip for planting sugarcane is that you do not have to use sand to plant it. All you need is water and either sand or dirt!
I just wanted to say that, I don't know why everyone thinks that it grows faster on sand

Fun fact: you can also go to the nether to get ender pearls there, so even if at your island the pearl drops are unlucky you can still get pearls.

Btw you done need sand for sugarcane, it can be either dirt or sand!
And if you have extra gravel and not enough dirt, you can make coarse dirt and get more dirk from that

Quick tip: You can place sugarcane on dirt :)
What’s the skyblock name? Loving the wait in-between the stages.
Also, you can place a one pixel tall block/carpet and the animals aren’t able to get out but able to get in, but you can get in and out easily
Pro tip: put some fences surrounding the block and also put water so that even if creepers spawn they won't be able to blow up ur work
