    A year ago I did a video on the Lee APP that was very successful, over 10K views. Now that a year has passed I have filmed an update and follow up on how things have gone and what I have learned since.

    Well, for new app presses slap a little valve lapping compound on the sliding parts for a faster break in. Once it's free float a dab of mother billet polish and running it some more will top it off and run smooth as silk. There's also a tension screw on the side to adjust free float.

      It's funny how many hacks all of us have come up with to make this press work well. Overall once mine wore in it was pretty good. I used it extensively for a while and prepped so much brass I still have bins of it and hence haven't used it for at least a year or more. But surely this fall will get it going again.

      @@wanneroo7106 I've come to realize that pretty much anything mechanical related to guns that moves, lapping compound and polishing seems to always make it work better.....except eyeballs and aiming, hadn't figured out that one yet 😁

    A good way to keep cases from dropping upside down is in how you put cases into the collator. If you just dump cases in many will drop upside down. If you put one small handful in at a time and put the cases in close to the edge somewhat gently. Then you shake the case tubes to move the cases around in the collator and most of them will fall with the mouth up. It doesn't happen with rifle cases however. I use a steeper funnel for .223 cases and drop them correctly oriented and fill one tube at a time. The funnel is faster since you don't have to aim at the narrow tube.

      Yes for pistol cases that is way I do it and most of the time it works fine. With rifle cases it's just easier to drop them in myself.

      The size of the holes makes a big difference also but yeah, if you just drop them in then some are going to go in upside down.

    On mine the main spring that pushes the slider, was too springy, and the spring would buckle instead of pushing the slider. So I broke the cotton part off those long qtips and just inserted the wooden rod inside the spring to give it some reinforcement. Works better now. I also have the ACP and the spring on that one was more rigid so it works without the wooden rod inside.

      @wanneroo7106  Год назад +1

      Interesting hack. I find that spring is real sensitive so it cannot be twisted in any way, so if it's binding up it's usually the spring needs reoriented.

    I just got the 3D reloading case feeder and it works flawlessly right out of the box. Big fan.

      I might look into one of those at some point. I haven't run my APP since last winter but will be getting it going this fall & doing some videos with it.

      I bought the Hornady case feeder and although the feeder itself worked ok, the motorized collator didn't work well at all (kept jamminig) and sent it back. The 3D printed case feeder worked real good and cost 1/5th the price. No motor...no problems@@wanneroo7106

    I got this press to prep 223 brass.
    The swager is absolutely awesome! I rigged my Dillon case feeder up to it and there is no better way that I’ve found to swage brass. Awesome press!!

      I agree, I think for a lot of reloaders it solves problems and saves time. I’m changing mine over to do 300 Blackout on it here soon and will put out a video on it when I do.

    For smaller cases like 9mmP a hack for the collater is to file a washer into a rounded or lobed square and screw it into the hole in the middle of the four tube chutes making effectively smaller in diameter. If you size and position it right it almost elimintes upside down cases

      You can use 1/2” Pex pipe. Cut to length so it is slightly below the collator entrances. Fits like a glove and it eliminates all upside down cases. Also, don't put the first cases loaded in the collator in the middle of the collator when loading it but off to a side and let them move toward the center themselves.

    The app press s the bomb. Never removed the spring. Thousands of rounds run through. In moving, mine got broken. So I just went and bout another one. The cost is so minimal. App press is about speed.

    • @wanneroo7106
      @wanneroo7106  Год назад +1

      That is the thing, parts for it are pretty cheap if they break. Now that it is cold, I will be getting mine back up and running and should do a couple of videos with it over the winter.

      @@wanneroo7106 The casting where spring attaches broke off in moving. Still have it but it was easier to replace it then make repair.

    The case feeder is a pain to set up. Once set it will work pretty good. I ran a bunch of 45 through it and was happy with the results. I dread setting it up for 9mm however. Almost more trouble than it's worth.

    • @wanneroo7106
      @wanneroo7106  2 года назад +1

      Overall regardless of what press I use I tend to prefer doing things in big batches so I don't have to fiddle fart with constantly changing presses and dialing things in. It shouldn't be too hard to get it set for 9mm.

    • @1stFlyingeagle
      @1stFlyingeagle Год назад

      Buy a second one and keep it set for smaller rounds. That's what I did. Because I felt it was a pain in the backside also. Now it's a walk in the park.

      Setting the case feeder is a snap ONCE YOU LEARN TO USE THE DIFFERENT HEIGHT ADJUSTER PLATES and replace that little itty-bitty 1/4x20tpi nut down the adjusting rod with a 2" connecting nut so you can access it easily. I'd gladly see a brass or aluminum knurled part there for hand tightening without a tool.

    For me, the Lee App is good for short pistol brass ONLY! It does not like rifle brass or anything longer than 10mm. Thats a fact. Brilliant but not for rifle brass.

      So far good luck resizing 300 Blackout with it. I have a bunch of 300 BO brass to do this summer so I'll probably do some 300 BO case prep videos including using the APP for resizing.
