    🐝 Tallow Sunscreen Recipe Directions:
    Ingredients:
    * 1 oz. beeswax
    * 2 oz. tallow or tallow balm
    * 2 oz. virgin coconut oil
    * 3 oz. liquid oil, such as carrot seed, argan, jojoba, or olive, or a combination
    * 2 oz. non nano zinc oxide
    Instructions:
    1. Weigh all ingredients and put them in the top of a double boiler.
    2. When all ingredients are melted, mix well with a whisk.
    3. Allow mixture to cool slightly.
    4. When mixture just starts to thicken but is still pourable, put in storage container. I like these glass jars or these silicone tubes.
    5. Allow to solidify the rest of the way.

    This sounds really good, and definitely preferable to concoctions with a whole list of unknown substances that can't even be pronounced.
    My question is about taking it on holiday to a hot country... I lived for years in Thailand and always love to go back there, but what happens to a cream like this in ambient temperatures around/above 30°C? I'd guess it would have to melt... would it stay good?

    I usually mix it with a lotion recipe I have.

    Hi. Just made this. Came out well, looks and feels like regular sunscreen and was hard to wash off so I expect it to be water resistant too. I did have issues with the zinc clumping together and it’s now a bit grainy. Any tips to stop that happening for next time?

    Hello, do you find this sunscreen works? Is the tallow/coconut oil an issue? I was just wondering because people that used To sun bake would oil their skin cause it literally used to make them burn/Tan?

  • @gettintherejanice6216
    @gettintherejanice6216 2 года назад

    I am a firm believer in getting sun. getting a base tan daily or very regular sun exposure. however sometimes there is a time for sunscreen we don't have a yard so my kids don't get long doses of sun often but we take the bus so this means shorter chunks of sun and my kids have lite trickling and a light base tan. I wasn't as good at getting them out daily for as much sun this spring in shorts and t shirts or tank tops so I was a little confirmed they wouldn't be fully protected mid summer but it has been a mild year that said we went to the park with their cousin on dads side cousins on my side are half Mexican so in that side my kids are the more likely to burn but this was a cousin that had much the same ancestry and we were at the park minutes and that child was red. he apparently rarely or " never" goes outside also no yard but doesn't take the bus daily no one attempted to keep his vitamin D up and he was showing signs of burning after being outside ten minutes so I can totally see the value in using sunscreen on a child or adult who has not had opportunity to get sun especially for full sun exposure times and work on getting more indirect sun exposure to build up the skin. it was interesting that my kids were not at all effected by that level of sun they were effected by the heat that day. but one of my kids did get a light burn about ten days ago and it settled on its own she turned pink and warm on her shoulders because they were exposed for the first time this year and I was going to put aloe but I forgot and it just fixed itself. I think the change in diet might be a part too

      That can happen if you're using quite hard tallow from leaf fat. I would melt it down again and add more liquid oil to soften it up. Hope that helps! I'm not sure about a face cream, maybe try leaving out the beeswax to make it lighter?

    Hey Marissa. I've made your recipe yesterday and followed every step but I find the consistency way too thick. I barely could get it out of the silicone tube I put it into when it was still liquid. Today I melted it again and added more oil to it but still.. It's very thick and the whisk I've used is very hard to clean as it's almost cement like 😅😅 how can I get it to be more like an actual liquid. Because rubbing it on my skin was very difficult because it was so thick . I was hoping it would be like any sunscreen, liquid and very easy to rub on the skin. Any ideas? I followed every step. Even added more oil. Should I add distilled water to it maybe? Even more oil? HELP 😂

    • @BumblebeeApothecary
      @BumblebeeApothecary  2 года назад

      You could try adding more liquid oil. A very little does go a long ways, so you might need to use way less when you're applying it. Hope this helps!
