I would like to add something here: Muggleborns don’t just get their acceptance letter. After the book and quill write down a muggleborn’s name, they get a place at Hogwarts. However, when they turn eleven years old, they won’t just wake up and find their Hogwarts letter on the front doorstep. A professor would actually apparate /floo powder to their house, and personally hand them the letter. Then they would proceed to explain what magic is, what Hogwarts is, and how to get into Diagon Alley and Platform 9 3/4. Hermione was given her letter by Professor McGonagall.
The hat doesn't necessarily sort you into the house you fit into the best at that particular moment but rather which traits you admire the most and think are the most important to achieve. Yes Hermione fits into Ravenclaw but she says herself "there are more important things than books and cleverness - friendship and bravery" (loose quote, didn't look it up ^^) sooo she actually fits into Gryffindor perfectly and just happens to be the clever bookish one out of them. And that goes for all the other ones as well. I think they fit their houses perfectly.
I hate how people point out that Hermione should be in Ravenclaw because there is such a common misconception on how people are sorted. Otherwise, Fred and George would be in Slytherin (Peter as well) and Hermione in Ravenclaw. This is why you get entire families in one house. Ex: Weasleys, Malfoys, Blacks (except for Sirius)
How to get into Hogwarts Read a book Write with a quill Put a hat on And go up and down the stairs: Edit: after doing all these steps I haven’t got my letter. :crying in corner:
Mike and Sully didn't take me on an adventure when I was 4, I didn't get my hog warts letter when I was 11, I wasn't taken to camp half-blood when I was twelve, Gandalf, I'm counting on you to take me on an adventure when I'm 50
Ok so: Slytherin book Hufflepuff quill Gryffindor hat Ravenclaw stairs Wait? I have to get through all of those to be accepted?! Wow. That’s never happening.
I think the artifact that represents Ravenclaw in this instance is the acceptance letters themselves. Ravenclaw is the house that values intelligence, and sending letters is a way of sharing information. Plus, they are delivered by owls, which are birds, just like Ravenclaw's eagle. And owls are also associated with wisdom.
I wonder if there's a similar setup at Ilvermorny. Sidenote: Is it just me or does Ilvermorny have a waaaay better sorting system than Howarts? Ilvermorny has these big pillars that represent each house and if a house thinks you fit, the pillar glows, and if more than one pillar lights up you get to choose. We know that the Hat does take choice into account, but it can also decide to ignore what you want.
What if there's a late bloomer who's like a day too late and turn out to have very powerful magic but aren't allowed at Hogwarts so they become an obscurial and all hell breaks loose?
They would probs get a letter from an other school, or the ministy would show up and be like "hey you're a wizard, but not a very strong one, here's your school"
I already went to Hogwarts, graduated. (I didn’t actually go, but I was in a residential facility at age 12 and 13, but I considered it Hogwarts because that’s where I binge read the books for the first time) but yeah, It was awesome
Wouldn't Ravenclaw be the train or the train station since Ravenclaw whole thing is to challenge students mind ...so figuring out to how to get the platform is a sorting test
I think that Ravenclaw's would be the sorting hat bc it requires a heck lotta intelligence and consideration to do it. Then Gryffindor's would be the train platform since you gotta run into a wall.
Actually it was a stolen Muggle train. It was taken in the 1800s by the Minister for magic as a way to safely transport the students to and from school.
My favourite artefact is by far the Marauders Map. It’s so creative and definitely one of the more useful things in the series, even more than the resurrection stone; Harry certainly uses it more than he uses the Deathly Hallows.
"Harry certainly uses it more than he uses the Deathly Hallows." I think he uses one of the Hallows, the Invisibility Cloak, more than the map, mainly because he got the cloak two years before.
I feel like the Deathly Hallows are more ancient and fascinating, but they're also unknown and highly dangerous, therefore I would probably stick to the Map. Also, both the invisibility cloak and map connect to Harry's father, therefore he feels a stronger bond to these items, which is why he uses them more than the other Hallows
On my 11th birthday (in August 2017) my parents got me a toy snowy owl and a Hogwarts letter with a first year school supply's list, It was so sweet, I have the best parents! ❤️u❤️ I love my family!!!!!
Am I the only one that wonder how is there an even amount of students at each house... Like let's say there was 40 students to be sorted and 20 goes to Ravenclaw, 12 goes to Slytherin and 7 of them goes to Hufflepuff, then there is only one first year student for Gryffindor...Like how is there always a even (or at least pretty even) amount of students....
Yes but how would Slytherin still be a normal sized House after the first war? Wouldn't a lot of people be like "please not Slytherin".. Im a Slytherin myself, but I know the bad reputation can be intimidating..
PLEASE INVESTIGATE SLUGHORN'S HOURGLASS. Just a thought: I imagine all these artefacts came about from a casual meeting of the four founders. H: "Hey, guys. Just had a thought about the school idea we've been kicking around: How are we going to know which children have magic and which do not?" G: "Good point! And how will we know which of us they most resemble?" S: "Their parents will tell us." H: "What about muggle-borns?" S: "Meh." R: "Guys- I got this. I can magically enchant a log book and quill to list all the children who exhibit magical discharge. Simple Field of Observation spell. As for who gets which students, I can enchant an article of clothing to search their personalities for Godric's boldness, Helga's loyalty, Salazar's cunning, or my Insight." H: … S: … G: "uh... I don't know what you just said, but I'm down!" *Throws his hat at Rowena* H: "Well, that seems reasonable. Rowena, you know a lot about birds-" R: "Of course I do." H: "Would an augurey feather work as a quill? My sons went hunting last week and shot one." R: "Absolutely! In fact, that's an ideal feather as Augureys are known to have oracle-esque foresight." S: "Well, only if we use my logbook."- Under his breath- "Don't want just /anyone/ coming into contact with our magical community..." R: "Okay! Gimme gimme gimme!" So, like, the other three offered up items to be enchanted, but only Ravenclaw knew the right spells to actually enchant the items. Not that she didn't have any artefacts of her own- she probably made them into artefacts in the first place.

I’m a Slytherin and I feel the same way about Gryffindors, but only because I had a very close friend who basically betrayed me and she was a Gryffindor.
you know voldy was only defeated cause snape, harry and dumbledoor, a slytherin and two griffindors came together to take him down. ( obviously there are others too but i’m trying to make a point).
as Hufflepuff I love the idea of the Quill be like "come on let's give them a try I'm sure they're gonna be fine" and eventually, when the book agrees (because it will) it wouldn't even brag about being right #hufflepuffpride
im 10 and this year im turning 11 so for my birthday, my sister told me we might be going to universal studios in Orlando and that was the moment I realized...im going to Diagon Alley/Hogwarts ⚡️ O-O 😂 ✨
For those wondering why they haven't been accepted: If you had watched the whole video, you would know that you are only written into the book on one or two (or both) occasions 1. You have traces of "magic" in your blood at birth 2. The quill and book are two different things. The quill can write names but the book must agree with the name. Seeing as how this is rare, and those that actually HAVE been accepted most likely are told to keep it secret (for obvious reasons) and can have no contact except with family and close friends, otherwise they could face serious consequences for exposing the "other world", it would make sense that if you haven't been accepted you have literally no idea about it.
Sienna Hartle Ravenclaw for the win! Everyone thinks that "oh gryffindors are the cool and brave ones" but us ravenclaws now that one day we will rule the world.
The ravenclaw "issue" is practically the easiest to explain... after all, wouldn't she have been responsible for the curriculum these students would study once they were accepted? I don't know about an artifact, but if there are standardized tests (OWLS & NEWTS) maybe those are her fault LOL But I would really think there's got to be something within the school that's representative of the courses and what is taught.
Ravenclaw has been completely thrown under the bus, there are no magical Ravenclaw sorting/admittance items, plus, Gryffindor has the Harry Potter series, Slytherin has the Cursed Child, Hufflepuff has the Fantastic Beasts series! What happened to Ravenclaw? What do we get? Cho Chang and Loony (for the record, just pointing out her nickname, Luna is a queen) Lovegood? Come on people! Show some #RavenclawPride
Pottermore should come up with a mail service that sends updates and something about your house and etc and the first piece of mail you receive is your acceptance letter :)
I had thought too when I first saw this video but I then looked at the Pottermore article and Flitwick was not mentioned. He was a little quick to be a hatstall.
Owls actually aren't as intelligent as we think they are, that's just the stereotype, so it wouldn't make perfect sense to use a bird that isn't too wise for the house that represents wisdom.
The Roman owl is based off a woman who ran off to the woods after being raped by her father. Minerva took pity on her and turned her into an owl, a bird that only appears at night, to hide its shame.
uh, the map isnt from weaslys wizard wheezez, the marauders made it. padfoot (sirius black) prongs (james potter) wormtail (peter pettigrew) moony (remus lupin)
Wait. If there is an artifact for everything, then there has to be one for Reavenclaw. I think I know what it might be. There has to be an artifact that makes the letters and gives it to the owls. Whatever this is, it must be the artifact of Ravenclaw. Super Carlin Bros? Is there a chance of that, and what would it specifically be?
I don't know if this will count, but my favorite magical object is the miniature of the dragon Harry had to fight in the Triwizard Tournament. It curled up on his bedside table and started napping, too cute!
I'm a wizzard. OH NO I ADMITTED IT IN FRONT OF MUGGLES!! :( My Ravenclaw reputation is ruined. No more Ravenpuff. Now I am just Hufflepuff. : D good but bad.
If you're a wizzard (with a double z) you should just be barely accepted into Unseen University in Ankh-Morpork (as in Terry Pratchett's Colour of Magic).
What i always have thought about: In the first books its said Quadditch is a dangerous game. people disapear and reappear weeks and months later. How so? No magic allowed. The game has a break as soon as someone get injured (like Harry), and a quaffle surely is capable of beating the crap out of you, but its doubtable that it can drive you to the moon, unnoticed or untraced by the audience, which is by the way full of freakin magicians.
Harry not ending up with Hermione was a smart move, something original. And it offered us even more important female characters, letting Ginny step to the forefront like that.
I have an idea how the Quill and the Book might decide who's name gets written down - sorry if it sounds a little bit complicated :) For tests in medicine for diagnosis there are often two important values mentioned: 1. The test sensitivity: test sensitivity is the ability of a test to correctly identify those with the disease (true positive rate) 2. The test specificity: test specificity is the ability of the test to correctly identify those without the disease (true negative rate) In some cases to confirm a disease, first a test would be done that has a high SENSITIVITY, but a lower specificity. This means that the aim is to detect all people which have the disease (true positive), but as a downside also a number of people will be detected eventhough they are healthy (false positive). To filter the false positive people a second test could be performed which has a high SPECIFICITY, but a lower sensitivity. This test is more efficient in filtering the people which are healthy (true negative), but will detect diseased people not as efficiently (false negative). So the first test is designed to find the disease and the second test is designed to confirm the disease as accurate as possible. Now my thought: What if the Quill resembles the high Sensitive test, that will detect the children that show the weakest sign of magic and the Book is the second, high Specificity test that makes sure that the "amount" of magic is sufficient for Hogwarts. So the Quill in some way allows any sign of magic to be written down and the book accepts it, but only if it is powerful enough.
I'd like to know about the owls. How they always find their recipient. Like in Sirius Black's case. Harry used a standard HWs owl to send him a letter so why didn't the Ministry just do the same and follow it?
I have a few questions. Have do they know when to send the letters to kids? For example if Harry was born in 2000( I know he wasn't but is easier for the math😅) and he got written in the book imediatly his letter would be sent 11 years later in 2011, but then Neville would be written in the book 8 years later than Harry so that means in 2008. But have do they know that Neville turns 11 also in 2011 and they don't just assume that he was born in 2008 and send him his letter when he's 19 in 2019? And who writes the letter? Because the signature is from McGonnagal but how does she or anybody else navigate in the book and how do they know where they live like exact location? And how and when do the kids get a tracer? Does it also evolve around a book of admitance?
That quill has been trying to right my name for 13 years then because i have hit my head so many times really hard i dont get dizzy or get a concusion and my friend hit his head on the on the sameiece of meatle i did that day but not ad hard and got a concusion. Just let me in hogwarts i cant break any bones or get concusions.
What would be really cool actually is if they built a replica of Hogwarts somewhere in England, and kids in Make-A-Wish can say "I wanna go to Hogwarts" so they'll get a letter from McGonagall saying they have been accepted. Then they'll get a ticket to go to Hogwarts and they'll take all the classes and have actors as the professors and even Harry Potter and all his friends would be there. I think it'll actually be really good for the mental health of kids who are sick.
great idea.. but you also have to think... most kids would think the whole effect is ruined without Daniel radclif (Harry) Rupert Grint (Ron) Ect ect and i dont think most of them would agree. And the fact they'd have to build a GIGANTIC castle..
ravenclaw's magical item/contribution is actually the school's entire magical curriculum - what needs to be or not to be taught to the students throughout their education at Hogwarts

Me: Come on, I will turn twelve in a few hours, cut to the point! My mom: Yelling at me because I’m lying & I’m turning twelve in eight months & seven days...
Favorite magical artifact: Marauders' Map. Also I think Lady Ravenclaw has an artifact that Rowling just hasn't told us about. She was the founder of the house for clever, finding-things-out types; she must have something for that.
Just a thought, but maybe she's the one who figured out HOW to enchant all of this stuff. Maybe all of the items were her idea, and she helped the other's to make them. Wouldn't that just be amazing? :D
My guess would be Ravenclaw's contribution is the spell concealing the Hogwarts platform OR the fact the house common rooms needing passwords to begin with
Why were Remembralls created in the Harry Potter universe? All they do is tell you that you have forgotten something without telling what that something is. If anything, such an item was created just to show Harry's sweet seeker skills while having no other true purpose.
I like to think they were made as a two phase prank item. Phase one: create real Remebralls, get people to buy into them. Phase two: create fake Remebralls that you can switch out with a real Remebrall. The fake remembrall randomly tells you that you are forgetting something, causing great panic in the victim and humor for the prankster. In all seriousness, remembralls could be quite useful assuming it could remind you of things before it became a problem. IE I notice the Remembrall on my dashboard is red. Great, I forgot something...go through a mental list. Oh my lunch! I notice then and not 5 hours later when it is time to eat lunch.
In that instance I can see its usefullness, but then there are those people who can't remember what it is they have forgotten and cause a great fuss for fear that this forgotten item or action was of greater importance when in reality it could have just been their lunch. Also, Wouldn't the remembralls always be red? For instance, I can't remember my time as a baby, so does that mean they are forgotten and therefore making a red smoke in a remembrall, or if I have forgotten the name of someone whom I don't associate with anymore, would that cause the remembrall to be red as well? Unless one has photographic memory, wouldn't the remembrall always be red?
I hadn't thought of that.Clearly it doesn't work like that because Neville's was white at one point. If I were the creator of a Remebrall, I would set it up so that in one hand you hold your wand, the other the remembrall, cast a simple charm, read off a list and then the remmebrall will help you remember that list. For example AYUDANTERECUERDO! eggs, milk, bread and apples. Goes to store, leaves without one of the items, you know to go get it. AYUDANTERECUERDO! de-gnome the garden, de-goulifyi the attic, find the function of a rubber duck. Reminds you when you've forgotten the tasks.
I guess the point I am trying to make is that there should be a better way to remember what you have forgotten rather than just seeing that you have forgotten something.
I believe the first moment a kid does magic (around 7 years old) is when the Ministry of Magic knows he or she is doing magic. Because the Ministry of Magic is able to detect when an underage wizard or witch is doing magic and where they do it they should be able to pin point who the kid is, also where he or she is from. If this is being done in a house of a mother witch or father wizard they would probably guess he or she is a wizard or witch. From there they would probably record any other magic being done by that kid to know for sure he or she is a wizard or witch. And then finally give the name to Hogwarts.
They can't detect when an underage wizard does magic. They can only detect when magic is done close to the underage wizard. That is called the trace. It isn't put on them until they turn 11. When a underage wizard is known to live with or spend time with overage wizards. Such as the weakly's borrow or Hogwarts they disregard warnings they get from those places.
On my 11th birthday my mum made me a cake with my acceptance letter, a snitch, the sorting hat and Hedwig. I am still 11 so I still have a little bit of hope left! 🤞🤞🤞

The stairs are what will get me. :-(
yup
I need a hat, okay i got that.
Ravenclaw was probably the one who came up the the whole idea.
That is genius
i will be highly upset if you're not a ravenclaw

I wonder if there's a similar setup at Ilvermorny. Sidenote: Is it just me or does Ilvermorny have a waaaay better sorting system than Howarts? Ilvermorny has these big pillars that represent each house and if a house thinks you fit, the pillar glows, and if more than one pillar lights up you get to choose. We know that the Hat does take choice into account, but it can also decide to ignore what you want.
it's better until the person is like "what do I do, I don't know, what do I choose?"
Jean AA Fair point. Still I think it's the version I'd prefer.
how will you explain how our dear mr. Riddle got into slytherin then ?

What if there's a late bloomer who's like a day too late and turn out to have very powerful magic but aren't allowed at Hogwarts so they become an obscurial and all hell breaks loose?
They would probs get a letter from an other school, or the ministy would show up and be like "hey you're a wizard, but not a very strong one, here's your school"
If they don't get a letter from Hogwarts by time they're 11,they would probably be dead already cuz the obscures wouldn't let you grow up to be 10
To develop an obscurus, you must willfully suppress your own magic. Just because a wizard doesn't go to school doesn't mean they become an obscurial

Wouldn't Ravenclaw be the train or the train station since Ravenclaw whole thing is to challenge students mind ...so figuring out to how to get the platform is a sorting test
Hogwarts was founded in 993 and the first train was invented in 1804 (Sorry to necropost, but i felt i had to)
pythonProgrammer there could have been magical trains that existed before that considering this is a book of magic but idk
But how is it a "test" if you can just be told/shown/explained how to access platform 9+3/4 ?
I think that Ravenclaw's would be the sorting hat bc it requires a heck lotta intelligence and consideration to do it. Then Gryffindor's would be the train platform since you gotta run into a wall.
Actually it was a stolen Muggle train. It was taken in the 1800s by the Minister for magic as a way to safely transport the students to and from school.
My favourite artefact is by far the Marauders Map. It’s so creative and definitely one of the more useful things in the series, even more than the resurrection stone; Harry certainly uses it more than he uses the Deathly Hallows.
ME TOO
"Harry certainly uses it more than he uses the Deathly Hallows." I think he uses one of the Hallows, the Invisibility Cloak, more than the map, mainly because he got the cloak two years before.
camhasproblems same
did you notice NEWT SCAMANDER on the map too?
I feel like the Deathly Hallows are more ancient and fascinating, but they're also unknown and highly dangerous, therefore I would probably stick to the Map. Also, both the invisibility cloak and map connect to Harry's father, therefore he feels a stronger bond to these items, which is why he uses them more than the other Hallows

Emilemig 5 I always thought about that too, but I think it's mostly even
Emilemig 5 law of averages
Yes but how would Slytherin still be a normal sized House after the first war? Wouldn't a lot of people be like "please not Slytherin"..

PLEASE INVESTIGATE SLUGHORN'S HOURGLASS.
Just a thought: I imagine all these artefacts came about from a casual meeting of the four founders.
H: "Hey, guys. Just had a thought about the school idea we've been kicking around: How are we going to know which children have magic and which do not?"
G: "Good point! And how will we know which of us they most resemble?"
S: "Their parents will tell us."
H: "What about muggle-borns?"
S: "Meh."
R: "Guys- I got this. I can magically enchant a log book and quill to list all the children who exhibit magical discharge. Simple Field of Observation spell. As for who gets which students, I can enchant an article of clothing to search their personalities for Godric's boldness, Helga's loyalty, Salazar's cunning, or my Insight."
H: …
S: …
G: "uh... I don't know what you just said, but I'm down!" *Throws his hat at Rowena*
H: "Well, that seems reasonable. Rowena, you know a lot about birds-"
R: "Of course I do."
H: "Would an augurey feather work as a quill? My sons went hunting last week and shot one."
R: "Absolutely! In fact, that's an ideal feather as Augureys are known to have oracle-esque foresight."
S: "Well, only if we use my logbook."- Under his breath- "Don't want just /anyone/ coming into contact with our magical community..."
R: "Okay! Gimme gimme gimme!"
So, like, the other three offered up items to be enchanted, but only Ravenclaw knew the right spells to actually enchant the items. Not that she didn't have any artefacts of her own- she probably made them into artefacts in the first place.
Loved this!

I'm 12. I should've started at Ilvermorny by now. I'm supposed to be in my 2nd year.
For those wondering why they haven't been accepted:
If you had watched the whole video, you would know that you are only written into the book on one or two (or both) occasions
1. You have traces of "magic" in your blood at birth

The ravenclaw "issue" is practically the easiest to explain... after all, wouldn't she have been responsible for the curriculum these students would study once they were accepted? Ravenclaw is the messenger owl! Duh.🕊(they need to make more emoji bird options)
Owls actually aren't as intelligent as we think they are, that's just the stereotype, so it wouldn't make perfect sense to use a bird that isn't too wise for the house that represents wisdom.
Owls are the most intelligent bird, as rather than pretending they know everything they are always asking questions.
🦅🦉🦆🦃🐓
The Roman owl is based off a woman who ran off to the woods after being raped by her father. Minerva took pity on her and turned her into an owl, a bird that only appears at night, to hide its shame.
But Athena is the goddess of Wisdom, Craft, and War. She is symbolized by an owl.

There has to be an artifact that makes the letters and gives it to the owls. Whatever this is, it must be the artifact of Ravenclaw.

Indiana Jones Ikr

Harry Potter fans and their paradoxical questions😂
Indiana Jones is right
What i always have thought about: In the first books its said Quadditch is a dangerous game. people disapear and reappear weeks and months later. How so? No magic allowed. The game has a break as soon as someone get injured (like Harry), and a quaffle surely is capable of beating the crap out of you, but its doubtable that it can drive you to the moon, unnoticed or untraced by the audience, which is by the way full of freakin magicians.
Can you please make a video on who Harry should have ended up with, romantically? I want to settle this debate once and for all!
Stephanie Taylor I agree!
I always shipped Harry and Hermione subconsciously. I mean, title character and female lead. Come on.
Patrick Lee Title character and female lead - that's why they should NOT end up together. It would be too predictable!
Harry not ending up with Hermione was a smart move, something original. And it offered us even more important female characters, letting Ginny step to the forefront like that.
You guys do know that Harry ended up with Ginny right.
I have an idea how the Quill and the Book might decide who's name gets written down - sorry if it sounds a little bit complicated :)
For tests in medicine for diagnosis there are often two important values mentioned:
1. The test sensitivity:
test sensitivity is the ability of a test to correctly identify those with the disease (true positive rate)
2. The test specificity:
test specificity is the ability of the test to correctly identify those without the disease (true negative rate)
In some cases to confirm a disease, first a test would be done that has a high SENSITIVITY, but a lower specificity.
Now my thought:
What if the Quill resembles the high Sensitive test, that will detect the children that show the weakest sign of magic and the Book is the second, high Specificity test that makes sure that the "amount" of magic is sufficient for Hogwarts.

Whenever you think that something doesn't make sense in Harry Potter,(books or movies) just remember... ITS HOGWARTS.
Jcmc22 Games IT’S HOGWARTS ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN
You are asking the right questions

What would be really cool actually is if they built a replica of Hogwarts somewhere in England, and kids in Make-A-Wish can say "I wanna go to Hogwarts" so they'll get a letter from McGonagall saying they have been accepted. Then they'll get a ticket to go to Hogwarts and they'll take all the classes and have actors as the professors and even Harry Potter and all his friends would be there. I think it'll actually be really good for the mental health of kids who are sick.
Emilee Nedz that's a really good idea
I feel like you should do that. I'll donate if you need money

great idea.. but you also have to think... most kids would think the whole effect is ruined without Daniel radclif (Harry) Rupert Grint (Ron) Ect ect and i dont think most of them would agree. And the fact they'd have to build a GIGANTIC castle..

Just a thought, but maybe she's the one who figured out HOW to enchant all of this stuff. Maybe all of the items were her idea, and she helped the other's to make them. Wouldn't that just be amazing? :D
Silver Samurai026
Anticlimactic in my opinion.
For example
AYUDANTERECUERDO! eggs, milk, bread and apples.
Hogwarts: When adults line up to go to school! Even if their letter is 20 years late...
I love the marauders map can u explain how it works in detail
I am SO happy I came accross this channel. Guys you are AMAZING! Your Harry Potter content is so good. Thank you so much for your hard work!!
Alexis Manabat but the seer like wizard in FB was able to know that the little girl was a wizard so I have a theory that that is how they know
The ministry as do most wizards has a low trust with divination. For example, divination can get you next to no work in the ministry
