As requested by many of you, today we're taking a look at Microshaft Winblows 98. This program was released in the late '90s, right around when the Microsoft DOJ lawsuit was just beginning. It had a goal of making fun of Microsoft and Bill Gates. Let's see how good (or bad) it is!

FUN FACT: The developer of this software is Wayforward, who are still developing games to this day and are responsible for games such as Ducktales Remastered, the Shantae series, Double Dragon Neon, and so much more
Surprised to hear they didn’t lose all will to live, after this ...
I remember my dad buying this and getting upset when it wasn't Windows 98......
Yeah
was your dad BLIND??? there's a thing on the cover that says "NOT THE REAL THING" and "A PARODY ON CD ROM".
@@ruler_of_everything i mean there are people who buy fake switches even though the name is clearly not switch so i don't doubt that
I kind of doubt that mate.
Me Too
Did some reading on this program. Apparently WayForward (who later made the Shantae series) helped out with developing this program
Wow, those ridiculous themed program windows on the desktop actually make me a little nostalgic for the very late 90s. To think there was a time we thought it was cool to have apps shaped like jelly beans. (It was kind of "gas leak year" for the entire shareware\freeware industry...)
And More
SIX SEASONS AND A MOVIE!
WinBlows 10, I would pay for that
Yep
No need to pay, it already exists, and it’s called Windows 12
@c6amp That's a *huge* burn to Microsoft...
Get ready to have not 2, but 20 people interrupting what you're doing to say something "funny".
I would pay for WinBlows 11
It's been a while. I love these style of parodies. There were some really funny (for a kid) windows mock ups made in flash.
Windows RG was the best one
@@joeconti2396 did you mean "really good"? Haha!! Hah.. heh...
..I'll go now
Windows 93 is the best. More of a modern one, though.
windows doors, windows hiv/aids, windows 2000000000 (actually, let's not talk about that one...), windows donghorn,...
The good old days, I remember going to Newgrounds just to play those Windows parodies!
The "garage sale" is obviously a nod to the fact that Apple bult their first computers in a garage, before they even had an office 😃

Why not the garage where Bill Gates founded Microsoft?
Actually it was Steve’s bedroom then the garage
lol
As bad as this is, I always liked the title.
to this day I still refer to microsoft as microshaft

Next video: installing and running Microshaft Winblows 98 on Windows 10.
It will work so I am excited to see it
Run it on Windows 10. I know it will work. I tried it
6:52 I always thought that "Lose" was put there to be the opposite of WIN, the commonly used command to start Windows in the early 90s.
Anyway, this was a fun trip down memory lane, remembering seeing this in stores.
@Lucas Zhu looks like we have a smart*ss here
I love the Netscape plane going down the right hand side !
9:20 _The Road Ahead_ was the book that famously made no mention of the Internet whatever, since Gates and Microsoft didn’t see it as being relevant to their business plans. Until a hastily-appended addendum was tacked on to the book to try to remedy this glaring shortcoming.
This parody must have made you Pyst inside.
The shitpost before shitposts, this is amazing
A decade ahead!

6:39 surprisingly, that shut up menu is relatable to today's vaporwave meme culture

I had this and their other program Star Warped (a star wars parody) ahhh childhood memories :-)
I may still have a copy of it too, if I can find it, I would be happy to send it to you.
That would be awesome! Thanks for offering
@@MichaelMJD cool, I will take a look to see if I still have it and email you if I find it.

5:35 the start button turned into "START or we'll hurt you" also the scrolling status bar changes to "NO LAUNCH NO LUNCH"
As Scott the Woz said:
"This Game Blows!"
3:12 The first time I played, the message was "Where do you want it today?"
6:34 - "I... I... m u s t... e s c a p e"
holy crap, some time travelling shit right here. cracked the millennial A E S T H E T I C surreal nihilism like decades before it's time. bravo
Help Please
8:38 That is a Macintosh-style scrollbar.
I got this and 2 other Parotty programs at a dollarstore long ago. One was a Star Wars parody, but I can't remember its name. The other was a parody of Myst, called Pyst. They were about the same quality as this one.
Microshaft Winblows 98 is basically one of those flash game windows parodies you'd find on Newgrounds, including the dumb start menu jokes and weird programs. Except this is a commercial game. It sold for money.
I played through every single bit of this when I was a kid and I loved it. I still reference some of the Campus Cam videos to this day. But I've never been accused of having good taste.
hahaha, the name makes me giggle! Love ur videos Michael!
Please try install this on windows 10!
Yes! Make A Video
Yeah
I would love if you livestreamed this and complete everything that this program has to offer.
The 90s were a different time, man. I actually searched this game out while talking to a friend about this game because I owned it as a kid. Bought it new off the shelf, in fact. 🤣
From Mike Rosoft?
Poor Billygotchi just starved of money throughout the whole video...
Oh No

14:25 i think windows can not take this program anymore 😂
It was really Windows or it was a parody crash?
@@camila_lt parody crash
Buried deep within the puns of this tech parody game are the voice acting talents of Maurice LaMarche & Tom Kenny; I wouldn't pay for it, either, but I'd play through just to hear their contributions. 🍻
I watched Toms Scott’s video on how to read binary and I got the question correct 12:00
9:52 that Doh tho
Hell yeah! Kitboga!
Wait a moment - what's a Kitboga?
@@Thiesi really?
@nevik10 But I didn't do anything, bro.
@nevik10 What you think I'm fool here bro?!
you know it's good when you hear Michael laugh
Speaking of Kitboga, I wanna see him put a bunch of scammers against this OS
I think when I was little, I saw a screenshot of Winblows, thinking it was actually Windows 95, and for a while afterwards I assumed that early versions of Windows had extremely curvy windows.
I enjoyed playing this game but I was also a geeky teenager back then.
Better than Windows 10!
is it really though
14:23 this program decided it wanted to crash.
Id love to put this on all the governments computers !
Now just wait till he uploads: Microshaft Winblows 98 running on Windows 10
"Hello?! Wat are you waiting for? Windows 99?"
I laughed more than I like to admit...
Aww, I was hoping you'd look at Bill's Personal Outlook
Less talking more clicking! 😂
Someone should of put it on Bill Gate’s computer in the 90s!
14:19
I've seen actual Microsoft Windows OS in the 90s be *more* stable than Microshaft Winblows!

Microshaft Winblows 98 sounds annoying, but at the same time, Microsoft was in court for the antitrust case in 1998, because they were monopoly, so seeing a program that is essentially making fun of Microsoft is pretty funny.
Can you take a look at Progressbar 95?
That "Roll a head" is very similar to a Gubble stage.
It would have been better if it was called "Microshat Windowblows"
7:14 wait a minute... "MIXER NIXED"
1:23 In much of the world, they would be pronounced differently, too. Yet not in the US?
I’ve wondered how you tell the difference between, say, “waiting” and “wading”? As in “I’ve been waiting for a while for the flood waters to recede” versus “I’ve been wading ...”.
somebody should make a windows 11 version the jokes would write them selves
11:55 this is the biggest laugh in an mjd video
I had this and another Parroty Interactive parody called Star Warped (obvious Star Wars parody) I had bought from a local dollar store years ago when I had a Windows 98 computer. Definitely campy with the humor both were attempting to pull, especially with Winblows running things into the ground with the Windows puns.
14:26 unintentionally the best joke in the game 😆
“Win Bill Gate’s Money” = “You Don’t Know Jack”
litterally, Winblows
Friend:I need to copy your homework it’s a emergency
Me:ok but don’t make it obvious

This looks like the perfect definition of "having the ability but not the talent." Now, if it was a copy of Michaelsoft Binbows now, we'd be talking something hot
I remember this! All the way down to that microshaft exploder music and the "where do you want to go? TODAY?" haha. Yeah it was lame and like a lot of parody, didn't age very well. But I was a kid and always appreciated this kinda stuff, I thought it was great.
11:58 I thought Steve is going to pull a binary solo right there
Come on sucker lick my battery
Imagine a version of this in Windows 11

Just to announce what the ESRB "reviewed" the program as: Comic Mischief, Suggestive Themes.
7:14 What was that?
Hey MJD, there’s two other programs I know of, P.Y.S.T. (A parody of M.Y.S.T.) and Star Warped (A parody of Star Wars)
Besides those three, they also did an X-Files parody called X-Fools.
I actually picked that up when it came out.
It's still on my shelf. Never opened it
@@KC9UDX I don't remember opening mine either. It was on a clearance rack for 99 cents or some ridiculously low price like that.
@@cee128d I paid full price whatever that was. At that point I'd give money to anyone discrediting Windows. Too bad it didn't matter.
I'm sorry, but I laughed way harder than I should've at "Run" 6:45

THIS IS MY FAV PART
Yeah, over all it blows. Except that binary trivia question. It landed on every level. Even the guy doing SJ was good.
Micro$haft Windblows performed an illegal operation and will close.
I bought this little bit of humor when it first came out and I still have it amazingly enough! I also have PYST.
Try out Windows 93.
Try it on windows 10
what virtual machine you used for install Windows 98?
I think he uses VMWare Workstation, although it should work on others like VirtualBox too
@@absolutewisp thanks.. and what video driver is used?
i tryied VBex, but i get Blue Screen... the SSD and the VMWare tools have video drivers with less than 128 VRAM :(
Tech tip: Run Windows 9x in PCem, not in VirtualBox or VMWare. VirtualBox gives me weird sound stuttering and stability issues from time to time.
If you press the start menu and move the mouse cursor through Outta Control Panel and more settings, I must hear stock sound effects.
I like seeing Michael who is serious almost all the time laugh
We Have Windows 98 At Home
Windows 98 At Home:
Did you Know? WayForward, the developers who made Shantae worked on Microshaft Winblows 98
"CLICK ON SOMETHING"
Me: *No, I don't think I will.*
There's a reason I never bothered to try this out. It seems to go for being weird and random rather than going for any real jokes. I guess a really young kid could get some enjoyment out of this, but I feel like kids wouldn't really get most of the jokes in here, so who was this marketed towards?
People who look at the title "Microshaft Winblows" and think "That joke's so funny, I'm going to spend my money on that!"
if winblows 11 will have a bluescreen instead of black screen, im buying it
12:02 I think the right answer is 1. I only had to decode the first two characters to narrow it down.
Edit: dang.
The first two characters are the same, ha
Where are the actors who played Meg and Graham now?
MJD with a Kitboga reference 💎💎💎💎
Gotta be honest, "where do you think you're going today" cracks me up so hard
Imagine: *When Microshaft Winblows 98 Was Released In April 1 2016*
Keep that windows98 installation CD and reg number. I just used an old Windows98 Installation CD to find a problem on an install of Windows 7 hangup. It is easy to access fdisk from booting the CD, as well as some other utilities. This was on an old laptop that ran Windows Vista (so you know why I was upgrading it) and had started hanging during bootup. I cannot tell you how much I hate Vista. Anyhow, I have my Windows95, Windows98, Windows XP, and Windows 7 CD's along with a couple Redhat Linux CD's. Always good to keep them on hand. You never know when they will come in handy.
Very interesting indeed.
ha can't believe you follow Kitboga as well! 😁
Serious question. Is Michael a smoker?
The actor playing Graham was also the principal on the TV show Community.
He was the doppeldeaner
