Totally agree. We haven't won a series in India for a generation and we haven't won in Sri Lanka for a while either. There's no way an ageing Handscombe and Maxwell are going to be the ones to get us there. They've had their shot in their prime and we weren't even close to where we need to be so why not try some younger talent.
this take was pretty embarrassing in my opinion. the second maxey did nothing in the shield 2nds then got hurt it was over. we need to start looking forward period - ussie smith starc hazelwood lyon marsh are all about to be gone.. or would you like another 2010-11 ashes? again… embarrassingly conservative attitude
They are huge Maxi fanboys and can’t handle the reality that he ruled himself out of Test section by going down the franchise route after mostly underwhelming performances in his 7 Tests. A batting average of 39 in FC cricket (and 7 tons in 69 games) does not suggest we are missing out on some all-time great red ball talent.
Weird tone on this one, it’s time to look to the future on what’s almost a free tour with an ageing team. Totally understand the selections that were made
Yeah I think it’s true that Maxi should have played more test cricket and probably would have had the Cummins/Mcdonald/Bailey axis been around in that 2015-2021 period. Also true that he would have been a higher chance of playing had the WTC spot still been in the balance. But at some point you need to think about the future. Team is stacked with 30+ year olds and one teenager. Almost unprecedented in the history of test cricket to have such an old team. Adding a 36 year old to the squad for two tests doesn’t make sense when you can use it to blood players who will be around to defend the BGT in India in 2027. If Aus didn’t use this opportunity to do it now, we would be complaining a year down the track when 3-4 of these guys retire at once and we haven’t got games behind their replacements. Or when inexperienced bats het bungled out on turning pitches in the subcontinent and we wonder why they can’t handle it.

What's crazy to me is that since the introduction of the WTC there are all of a sudden "dead rubbers". As far as I'm concerned there's never been a dead rubber in test cricket. Even if you're down 4-0 in a 5 test series, you want to win the next one because every game matters. If it didn't we wouldn't play them.
There were more dead rubbers pre WTC. The problem is at this point that the finals are locked in so we’re in dead rubber territory. The dead rubbers in pre WTC Ashes series were horrific

The India series isn't for two years, I doubt that they're using this tour as a lead in for that. It's about setting the team up for the immediate future - a future that Maxwell and Handscomb were never going to be a part of

No hope..We are better of with Smith as Skipper when playing on spinning wickets..You'll see
Looks like I'm in the minority but fully agree that selection was bizarre and not the squad that would have been picked was the WTCF on the line. Just the latest in the litany of Test slights Maxwell has had to endure. Handscomb was particularly ridiculous given his recent form, ability against spin and his relative youth -33. We're basically sending an A team. I'm not a Victorian btw.
Omitting Maxwell in favour of Connolly makes no sense to me, but I get the McSweeney selection over Handscome. He’s got the first class CV, is the near future and needs to gain more experience. I also would’ve taken Zampa. Too good a leg spinner to just ignore.
This is not bizarre. This is extremely logical. Our selectors, coaches and captain have been outstanding for many years. Yet media morons still find reasons to whinge.
Wonderful informative gem of a podcast. Sorry Maxie didn’t make the SL tour squad, but they already have one St. Kilda supporter in Boland on the team, so they have probably maxed out their quota. Incidentally, during the previous two Test Championship finals (NZ v India, Australia v India), if the matches had been drawn, then the Championship title and prize money would have been equally shared. I think the same rules apply this time around.
Gentleman, are the view counts so low post-BGT that we have resorted to the video podcast equivalent of trolling with these rank takes? Also, is this the first video Adam didn’t delete a line before jumping on? Geoff overwhelmingly better presented, well done Geoff, like a phoenix some would say in that regard. Maybe another super fund will jump on board if you spread your bias across a number of states not just Victoria? Much love 😅
Sorry team - don’t agree with the take here. 5 minutes ago you were saying the teams too old, then they pick youth and it’s disgraceful. A series that has nothing riding on it is the perfect opportunity to do what you have been asking for - sending a 33 and a 36 year old due to sentiment isn’t the answer.
@@UmpireStrikesBack that boast is as worthless as the champions trophy. We haven’t won a series in England or India with this crop and that’s the telltale sign of a truly elite era
!00% with Geoff on the Connolly selection. Unless you're clearly some unprecedented talent, you need to earn your stripes to earn the baggy green. I felt like I was on crazy pills with all the people that were agreeing with the decision to include him in the squad, but thankfully Geoff eased my mind with his usual sensible take.
