I am a firm believer in expiry dates. If its expired its gone. If I am not going to use it it’s gone. I try to have not more than 2 to three of everything. For example I have 2 prepoos, 2 shampoos, 2 deep conditioners, 1 rinse out conditioner, 2 live in conditioners, 2 butters, 2 gels/ edge control , 3 oils, 1 mousse ,2 heat protectants and 1 hair spray. Now when I see an interesting ad advertising new products I ask myself what will it replace in my stash that is not performing optimally. This is more than enough for one head of hair. I am hoping to eventually eliminate prepoo( a mixture of rinse out conditioner and oils will perform the same function) reduce oil, butters and heat protectant to one each. Replace my gels when they expire with the new staff.
I am having such a hard time purging. But I have way too many products that I have had for years with hopes that maybe one day I’ll use them. 🥴 How did you finally let go?
I used to have 50 products & they were taking over my room dresser. It started to make me feel Anxious & I realized I had $200 in hair stylers staring at me👀. Gave them away to my church family. Now I have 1 shampoo & conditioner. 2 deep Conditioners (1 keratin, 1 moisturizing) a Leave In & 2 gels that I switch between for styles. That’s It💕 Less is More & makes Wash Days simple since I know what I’m using in advance.
Gir,l do not feel bad because I have a similar amount of products. I have like 7 cleansers. My hair and my style is high maintenance. My home is like a full-service salon. Lol! Doesn't matter what hair type you have I have a product you can use. Here is the rundown: protein shampoo for my ultra-fine and fragile hair, moisturising shampoo for my also dry and tangle-prone hair, a chelating shampoo because I live in a polluted megacity, a scalp shampoo for my sensitive scalp, a co-wash for when I sweat too much or swim or get something gross ( recently beer) spilt in my hair midweek. Castile soap as a deep cleanse for extensions and wigs. Dry shampoo for protective styles and light cleanse for extensions and wigs. Most of my products are in my bathroom on a 4 tiered see-through stand because I use them every other week on my own hair or on the wigs and extensions. My wash days are simple to me, I usually have either a protein or moisture shampoo and I always use my scalp shampoo. I either use a protein deep conditioner, a protein-free deep conditioner or a moderate conditioner with both protein and moisture. I can't remember the last time I used a styler on my hair because I usually throw it in some twists with the leave-in or two or three french braids or a combination and call it a day. I don't do twist outs or braid outs or Bantu knot outs or any style that requires hold and/or definition. I used stylers last week on one of my wigs. I apply leave-ins daily to my own hair.

Since being diagnosed with a sensitive scalp in February 2019, I've been slowly whittling down my products. I've actually had to buy more products for my scalp specifically. Then I have products that I use on my wigs and weaves. Once the pandemic hit I stockpiled because it wasn't easy to get products where I live either delivered online or in-store in person. The shampoo and the sealants are probably past the 12 month mark but everything else is under 12 months because I use them a lot...the deep conditioners, the leave-in conditioners and my scalp care. The oldest ( over 2 years) product I have is my chelating shampoo because I only use that once every 4-6 weeks. It doesn't smell, feel or look off or irritate my scalp so I think that it is still good.

I literally only have two full-sized perfumes. One is a cheap one 14.99 for 125ml and one expensive is like 75-79 bucks per 75ml!!! I'm like this in everything simple or extreme... I don't know what middle is. Lol!
I experiment with those little samples when I'm just doing a quick wash and conditioner usually at the gym/pool. Lol! Or some influencers only use it on one small part of their hair and then use something else on the rest and compare the two results. That's a fun way to use it. Since I deep condition every week, I know my hair won't suffer too much until the next wash day and my leave-ins are always on point if my deep conditioner failed. Lol!
After a 1.5 yrs of growing my natural hair, it's time for a purge. I think I am starting to see what direction I want to take my hair and what products to help with that. After watching your purge, it finally dawned on me---no Soultanicals in your stash! Is that on purpose or coincidence??
The haritage scalp exfoliant is a good product, I just dont think the design is type 4 hair friendly. It has little beads/grains to help scrub your scalp but they got stuck in my hair for days and took a couple wash days to completely come out. And the applicator bristles are so close together that it got tangled in my hair, I would have to do really small sections. But my scalp did feel good it was just a hassle.
You know what Lexi? I dunno about the Sol de Jenario hair line yet, however the body creams are amazing! I'm usually a cocoa butter type gal but I don't think I'm going back.
I wanna but sensitive scalp problems...smh oh and money is up in the air due to Covid so I can't justify splashing out on something that may or may not work unless is was free ninety-nine. lol!
Oil your skin and nails. Use oil as pre-poo, hot oil treatment and as a the usual sealant. I can't put oils on my scalp for long...newfound middle-aged scalp sensitivity so I use the oils on my nails, skin and as a pre-poo that I shampoo out afterwards.
I am currently trying to use my stash so I am on a purchasing strike for the moment. Black Friday 2020 was my last purchase and I’m hoping to make it to Black Friday 2021!
Honestly, most natural products that actually contain natural ingredients are only good for 12 months after being opened. The product will usually have an open jar symbol with 12M, 18M, 24M written on that open jar.
Definitely. Another reason I don't DIY because I would not even know where to start with preservatives. Most of my products are store-bought so they have a long shelf life if unopened.
I think it's more difficult for influencers who get things to try out all the time to keep their product stash under control. I don't have the problem of having too many hair products because I tend to use them up before buying more. In general, I don't try a lot of different products, but if there's something else I want to try I won't buy it until what I have is almost used up.
Usually don't have 2 throw anything out, yet products that just doesn't work 4 my hair anymore either give 2 friends or my beautician, since she is always doing someone hair.
Was I the only one who would say what I thought you'd do with each item😂 I knew most of the keeps because I took would keeo them. I just did a purge and gifted things to a cousin and it felt so good. I had to toss so much of Honeys handmade that went bad after a year of not reaching for it. I need to try Chocolate Kinks and Kurls since I've heard so many great things.
Yeah, anything that is natural/organic based does not hold up well after you have opened it. Some even unopened go off. here I am with my un-organic un-natural Paul Mitchell shampoo with 2 years and still not gone off and still working. I guess it must have some strong preservatives in it!
@@marleyhill34 yup I knew it wasn't gonna last being that there aren't any preservatives. This is why I've let my product junky ways die because too many products would sit for far too long.
@@bebe3674 My product junkie-ism died when I developed a sensitive scalp. Lol! The trichologist was like "no oils no butters and no stylers and especially no edge control." lol! They also killed all of my styles apart from my wigs once or twice a month, twists or 2 or 3 french braids. lol! I'm nearly 40 and I'm not trying to be bald yet although Corona gave me 20 extra grey hairs. lol!
Girllll....so i only mini twist and protective style my hair...so i need like aloe Vera and Shea butter and dats it...i don’t know what to do with my products...i wish there was a way to sell gently used or unused products...
yeah I got diagnosed with a sensitive scalp in February 2019 and I have not bought a single styler since then for my natural hair. I bought stylers for my wigs and weaves which I wear about once or twice a month. My biggest stash is leave-in mists, leave in creams and leave in detanlgers. This is all my trichologists wants me to use. I use the edge control on the wigs not my own unruly disrespectful thick edges. lol!
Broke club over here. I'm going through therapy, job redeployment and a disability assessment review. Oh, and I have a personal trainer to try to keep sane because I don't see anyone else. I have Borderline/emotionally unstable personality disorder and having a mental health condition is expensive!! Lots of bread and pasta and multi-vitamins over here. Can't afford a lot of cheap fruits and vegetables.
Dang.. I don't purge any of my product stash except makeup every 3-6 months because I only buy what I need and don't buy wants due to not having the space. When you only know your current brands you use and not the ones you used 3 years ago because you didn't join natural gang until recently. Can you do a video of your fav products from Mane as I never tried anything from that brand.
I need a professional declutter to come in. lol! At the moment I'm decluttering my food. Lol! I need a simple food life to stay on my diet track. I'm on a makeup palette ban...although I seen some more brushes I want to get. I have a full dressing table stacked in 3 tiers for my makeup. My makeup is not allowed to go into non-see through containers. Lol! The last time that happened, I accumulated more than I needed. My hoard is makeup ( which is manageable), paperwork (out of control)and clothing ( confined only to the bedroom). The shoes are slowly going down because I have feet that need orthotics and I'm getting too old for high heels.
Yeah but I have a high maintenance scalp and hair and I have a high maintenance lifestyle ( lots of activities not luxury) so I need something like 7 cleansers. Lol! And if you are an influencer/brand ambassador..you definitely out here with 100 to 200 products excluding wigs, weaves and extensions. lol!
I need to hype myself up to purge my products. Plus I’ve had stuff from my dorm in a storage unit for a year now and I know I’m probably gonna have to throw most if not all of those products away
Child get into it. I'm 40 this year and I have 22 years of stuff to purge but luckily it all fits into my tiny apartment flat. I'm going to need more shelving probably but I'm planning a professional declutterer to come in and help me. lol! We can't be having storage units and our home. Lol! I've become more minimalist in my middle age. I just don't have the time and energy capacity for a lot of clutter.
@@marleyhill34 I know what you mean. I got a deep conditioner from briojio in a Sephora Favorites bag and it's so small I know I can't use it on my hair 😂😅 would love some full size
No coincidence I just never tried them before.. I always meant to! Are you telling me I need to try it?
@@KandidKinks yes, you should definitely give them a try and give us your Kandid review
@@KandidKinks Definitely try. My sister uses them and her hair is waist length.
yeah I come from that same line of people that doesnt throw things out too haha it drives my husband crazy lol
same.
@@marleyhill34 the struggle lol
The haritage scalp exfoliant is a good product, I just dont think the design is type 4 hair friendly. It has little beads/grains to help scrub your scalp but they got stuck in my hair for days and took a couple wash days to completely come out. And the applicator bristles are so close together that it got tangled in my hair, I would have to do really small sections. But my scalp did feel good it was just a hassle.
The way I laughed during this video is crazy
😂😂😂
You did a great job! I would love to try some different products.
You know what Lexi? I dunno about the Sol de Jenario hair line yet, however the body creams are amazing! I'm usually a cocoa butter type gal but I don't think I'm going back.
I loveee their body care. But the mask was really good and I was shocked.. if I had to only buy one I’d stick to body care though lol
I wanna but sensitive scalp problems...smh oh and money is up in the air due to Covid so I can't justify splashing out on something that may or may not work unless is was free ninety-nine. lol!
Love your videos!! I need to purge my oils but trying to finish them lol where did you get the artwork of the headwrap lady on your wall?
Her instagram is @sheisthisdesigns and I got the frames from tj maxx
Oil your skin and nails. Use oil as pre-poo, hot oil treatment and as a the usual sealant. I can't put oils on my scalp for long...newfound middle-aged scalp sensitivity so I use the oils on my nails, skin and as a pre-poo that I shampoo out afterwards.
Lexiiiii, can I have the melanin haircare twisting butter? Please girl! I have yet to try it 🥺🥺
Sjoe As a beginner it is overwhelming watching all this products. I wish to have one or 3 of that.
If she doesn’t, I have one i can send you . I LOVE it, so moisturizing and it’s a big jar .
@@twill1007 thank you! 😂💖
@@queen_kayla3207 you’re welcome
please do an afrosheen video Lexi!!
I am currently trying to use my stash so I am on a purchasing strike for the moment. Black Friday 2020 was my last purchase and I’m hoping to make it to Black Friday 2021!
That’s amazing!!
I literally just purged some of my products this morning. It felt so freeing
I think it's more difficult for influencers who get things to try out all the time to keep their product stash under control. I don't have the problem of having too many hair products because I tend to use them up before buying more. In general, I don't try a lot of different products, but if there's something else I want to try I won't buy it until what I have is almost used up.
I like this. This is the behavior I need to adopt to keep my product clutter to a minimal.
Please do a video on the honey curls or can you give it to me please.
I world line to see a review of that scalp scrub
Usually don't have 2 throw anything out, yet products that just doesn't work 4 my hair anymore either give 2 friends or my beautician, since she is always doing someone hair.
Hiiii I would love to get something in your giveaway pile, keep up your great work and loving the hair
They also killed all of my styles apart from my wigs once or twice a month, twists or 2 or 3 french braids. lol! I'm nearly 40 and I'm not trying to be bald yet although Corona gave me 20 extra grey hairs. lol!
@@marleyhill34 siss! The extra grey hairs in my late 30s too. Glad you found what works for you even with minimal products. That's key!
Girllll....so i only mini twist and protective style my hair...so i need like aloe Vera and Shea butter and dats it...i don’t know what to do with my products...i wish there was a way to sell gently used or unused products...
Fayeinthe city is sending her unused unopened products to texture lab. You can find them on Instagram.
You could donate to a women’s shelter in your area!
yeah I got diagnosed with a sensitive scalp in February 2019 and I have not bought a single styler since then for my natural hair. I bought stylers for my wigs and weaves which I wear about once or twice a month. My biggest stash is leave-in mists, leave in creams and leave in detanlgers. This is all my trichologists wants me to use. I use the edge control on the wigs not my own unruly disrespectful thick edges. lol!
Wish I was in a place near you I come pick some. Right now I am so broke can't afford some products
That’s a great idea !
I don't have to purge because my daughters just take my stuff.
Lol
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
You're stash looks similar to mine (looks over it in shame haha)
Yeah but I have a high maintenance scalp and hair and I have a high maintenance lifestyle ( lots of activities not luxury) so I need something like 7 cleansers. Lol! And if you are an influencer/brand ambassador..you definitely out here with 100 to 200 products excluding wigs, weaves and extensions. lol!
@@marleyhill34 haha I have so many products that its embarrassing! Being a youtuber just made it worse haha
@@CurlsofaCPA Lol! I can be a blog writer not a RUclipsr. Lol!
@@marleyhill34 haha i feel you! it is not easy lol
Great video girl. I'm on the #useyourstash for a while lol
I only have a storage unit because I go to school out of state and because of the pandemic and everything shutting down so fast I didn’t have time to pack my stuff up from Georgia and have my family come and drive it back to Connecticut and I haven’t gotten a chance to go back since
