I'm grateful for this video too cos I'm just prepare to go for camping and need some essential lists. But I can't see a camping hammock in this video. I think a hammock is necessary for a camping cos sleeping or rest on hammock is very comfortable. I bought a hammock on amazon that comes with a mosquito net and I'm satisfied with it. Here's the link if you guys need it too. www.amazon.com/dp/B07NLSKSRF
Personally I like when we see the intro being you throwing your pack on and getting your permit to hike. This is real and for people that may want do the same hike, its helpful. Content you are delivering is great!
You showed up randomly in my feed, and I started watching all your videos. I realized after watching some hiking video's by others just how well done yours are. Keep up the good work!
So spot on about gear obsession! It’s more about getting out there, paying dues, honing the craft! Well done. And your video footage is terrific. Thanks.
Just re-watching this video 2 years later as im finaly able to afford my own hiking stuff. Impressed with your development over the years. Your one of my biggest inspiration and I can't wait to follow your path in my own way ! Thank you for all of these videos that helped me a lot :)
Kraig, your videos are super Inspiring. I started solo overnight hiking at the start of the year and I’m obsessed. I find your videos perfectly capture the reasons why I love it so much. And your minimalistic style makes me really think about what I take with me. If your ever in australia, my favourite hike so far is the thorsborne trail in North Queensland. I would definitely recommend it
Hi Kraig, you mentioned in this video that you’re planning to do a tutorial video about how you navigate your hike using AllTrails, your next hike and all the details. I’m really looking forward to it, and I’m sure a lot of other people are as well. Thank you so much for making such great contents, all of your hiking videos are amazing and therapeutic in a way. Nature heals. Keep up the good work and take care 🙏🏼
One awesome trail i would recommend, did it this year, was to climb Pico Mountain in the Azores and staying at the top overnight. The sunrize is absolutely amazing, and the azores islands in general provide 9 islands with very unique ways to enjoy nature. Keep in mind they are much smaller trails than what you are used to :)
Brother you are crazy articulate and precise! Very much to the point yet never rushed. Polished. Its very apparent you've been doing this for awhile! Where have I been?! Seriously there are many amazing amateur or professional utubers and you are right up there. I picked up so much in this first video. Pumped to see your adventures!! Peace and love always win.
Questions where answered here for me. I don’t think you need to change anything (for me) but others may have great ideas. Praying for your endeavors to be safe. Glad you have a locator for broken ankle... you never know. I’ve hiked and have seen great things in just my location. God is an artist☺️. Carry on young one... carry on!
Please don't change the format. I really like that we take the journey too. It means we can see the landscape and weather change along the way. I am looking forward to more videos and thank you for sharing about your gear. It does make me think about I use and the things that perhaps, I don't really need.
I’m currently in stage three restrictions in Victoria, Australia which basically means no camping/ long distance hiking. But this video if definitely what I needed!! Thanks Kraig.
Is that for coronavirus? I can never understand why backpacking wouldn’t be allowed since it’s one of the most socially distances things you can possibly do...
Tyler K. Yeah it is. The government is trying to get people to stay at home which means long distance trips are kind of off the radar at the moment. It is what it is, but better in the long run.
Thank you so much Kraig for your fantastic scenery bringing to us and sharing useful info and experience. Handling filming during hiking is never easy.
I enjoy your videos that are chronological because it feels like I’m on the hike with you. Watching your videos helps my mental health when I can’t get out on the trails myself. Thank you!
Dear Kraig, I love your videos! I loved watching your 8-hour vlogs and seeing your glow-up. You are down to earth and very relatable. I especially like how you break down everything at the end of your videos -- it provides inspiration as well as accessibility to the journeys you go on. I'm surprised that you wear and bring contact lenses with you on all these trips! I just got LASIK last year and it was honestly life-changing! Waking up and being able to see felt like a re-birth. I look forward to your future hikes and podcasts! Keep doing you (Y)
I recently lost my camera on a hike - it wasn't stolen, I simply forgot it at a bus stop at the end of the trail and it hasn't been turned in to lost & found. Your comments about just replacing lost gear and not being hung up about it resonate very much with me - I try not to dwell on it but every now and then I still catch myself mentally kicking my own ass.
Thanks, Kraig. I've been modifying my pack for my virtual trail tour videos over time, and its nice to see how others tackle the challenge of filming while on a hike.
Thanks Kraig, I was more interested in the bag stuff rather than the photo info. I learned some stuff from the video that I can use. I’ve learned so much from you guys who do videos. Cool!
Any plans flying off to Maine? They do have lots of really amazing trails over there! You can also try somewhere in the Caucasus when it’s okay for you to cross the Atlantic. You’re living our dreams, Kraig. Can’t wait to travel/hike soon myself. Safe trails! 🙌🏼
To answer your question Kraig, I do find the chronological order important. I often watch your videos as a special treat before bed, and I want to experience the hike vicariously through you. So however you can convey that sense of time elapsing is ideal for me at least. As far as morning or afternoon, it doesn’t really matter, as long as we’re able to follow along with your experience. (That said, the light does seem to be nicer in the afternoon.) PS. I’m kind of surprised you don’t use a micro four thirds setup...I would think the extra portability combined with the weather proofing would be high up on your list of priorities. However I do understand that if you’re used to the Sony menu you would want to stick with what you’re used to. Thanks & keep up the great work!
Adams, Followed you back in your wedding video days, now that I am thinking of doing the nomad lifestyle and seek some adventure, you come back into my reality. Understanding minimalism, being a lover of nature, and always having a mindset of overcoming tasks, learning from them, seems to me like we are riding this same wave we call life. Glad to find another Lion in this world full of sheep.
Ive never heard of the bandit before. Was gonna pick up the standard enigma quilt until this video came out. Placed a uqg order last month. Compared to the ee enigma i saved $200, got more customized options, and less oz’s. I owe you dude. Come out to the cdt this year! I know pct is a bit in the air with the early permits not being issued.
I was wondering what happened with PD Travel Tripod. RIP!! I can see all your gear that you changed compared to last year is from a weight saving decision. When things go back to normal, hope to meet you on a trail in Europe so I can say thank you for taking us viewers with you on your trips. Until then, stay safe and keep on creating Kraig!!
I like the slow burn videos without the intros because seeing them for the first time is just mindblowing - unlike if I see all the best footage at the start then the rest of the video might be a little normal and boring 👀 BUT I do love all of your videos and I watch them as soon as they come out 😁
Man, I don’t think I’ve ever seen your content before. Instant subscriber. Love the fact that you don’t have to be loud to talk about your gear. We have very similar gear options. Much love.
Kraig thanks to you i left Germany to Norway 🇳🇴 and im hiking here since 3 weeks soon return home . Im currently hiking Beseggen and will watch the Video later when i can
Hi Kraig. Please look into hiking the Larapinta Trail and Overland Track in Australia. Would love to see your perspective on our hikes. Other options would be The Bibbulum Track and The Great South West Walk. We really enjoy your content, thanks.
I’ve been following you for years and have so much love for you man. Your kit is so thoughtful and great. The one thing I miss is you shooting with a full frame and the dynamic range and low light that comes with it (it only hurts a little bit because of the beautiful locations that you’re shouting during sunrise/sunset). If ever in the Philadelphia area I’d love to show you some great hikes! Hope you’re well!
Your videos are simply awesome. Been feeling a little nervous about my hikes that I have planned for 2021, but seeing your videos made me so excited! Thank you!
Thanks for the tips and inspiration Kraig. Thanks to you, I recently did TMB as my very first hike and made a video about it. It was somewhat out of my comfort zone but totally loved it and it will definitely not be my last hike.
Hey Kraig, I loved the video. Really appreciate it! Just wanted to say that you might want to use mid-hight hiking boots instead of trail runners the next time you go out hiking in the mountains. Would hate to see you sprain your ankle. Haha!
Best informative clip. I have been doing so much research recently to start backpacking and this helped me the most, by far. Thank you so much and cheers to your expedition!
My thought is the gear can last 25 years plus depending on usage and if you’re just doing the hiking gear $3k is really fair compared to other overpriced gear in other outdoor stores I’ve seen.
@@CuriousCat777 i agree i do think that maybe the most espensive things are like the computer and camera which he probalby already owned and uses outside of hiking or backpacking
Hi Kraig, great Videos and thanks for the equipment tips. About waterproof I have a different opinion. Shoes is unnecessary, I agree. But a good breathable rain jacket and trousers are lifesaver in the mountains. I never go without. If temperature drops, rain or snow starts and you can't put up your tent, you could really get in trouble. Please don't die out there because 500g equipment is missing. Look for Trail Runner equipment, you get good protection really light with very good breathability.
I love your videos. For what it's worth, I prefer the chronological format and it moving relatively slowly and naturally. It gives a realistic sense of your hike and it's very relaxing for a viewer. I don't think I would enjoy an "intro" with the best shots (a preview basically). Part of the pleasure of your videos is the surprise factor of a truly stunning moment catching one by surprise part-way through a video (just as you on your hike "earned" a great view or a great moment)--e.g., thinking of that upside-down water shot in one of your videos. I think these moments have a more authentic "wow factor" when they're contextualized in the broader experience of your hike. Keep up the great content!
Up in Alaska run a Nemo galaxy 2p, still able to fit our mastador and ridgeback in it and the vestabule keeps our packs protected. The air mattress is a must for sure!! Our InReach has saved out butts getting stuck out the road in snow more times than I like to admit, but suuuuper useful. Puffies are lifesavers, even on brisk summer mornings making coffee. TELL ME HOW DO YOU LIKE YOUR DJI MAVIC 2 AIR??
Thanks for always being direct and straight up with all that being said you have inspired me I know to go hiking and doing it as light and viable as possible.
Amazing production quality and helpful recommendations. thank you for adding links to the items. So much work put into this and it certainly doesn't go unnoticed! great job Kraig!
Yo kraig, your videos have really reignited the passion in me for backpacking. For about five years I didn’t get out at all and got caught up in the stress of adult life. But after seeing some of your amazing videography I was reminded of why I used to love backpacking and why I need to get out again. My first trip is set to go to the linville gorge for a little weekend and then who knows where from then =]
Just a heads up for future reference, bear spray is not allowed in checked or carry-on luggage per federal aviation regulations. Same with fuel canisters. It sucks, but your best course of action is to find an outfitter at your destination and grab one and then find someone to donate/sell it too before returning home. Nice video though! I have experience with a lot of the same gear!
you got a new subscriber! Love your content and minimalistic philosophy. Also, don't focus on tools and you can do so much with so little really hit home for me. Thanks bud.
Very helpful video and always nice to see other vloggers setups and gear. Not easy filming outdoors to create hiking films but you do it very well. Atb
Great stuff Kraig! As for intros to your hiking videos - there are a couple of things I like in your videos, one of which is you seem to keep experimenting and try something new. IMO, that's how I would see your intros. Don't follow a template, just do what you feel is right for a given video, mood you were in when hiking there and so on...just follow with what you feel would work best for a given video.
I'm so sad the podcast is gone. I listen to and repeat them every night before going to bed. Some of your greatest conversations were on those... Since I deactivated my IG for a much needed social media break I now only have youtube for Kraig Adams content. Maybe one day I'll bring back my IG.
all future podcast-type content will be on the channel in the form of updates. yeah, there were some unique conversations but I didn't see the replay value of keeping them up
I like the way your videos are edited now. The chronological approach followed by your narration/informative segment at the end is ideal I think. Like your Enchantments video was a good guide for when I hiked it a few weeks ago and I actually used it as a reference for how far I was in the hike! Keep up the amazing and inspiring content Kraig.
Yess! Amazing video as always Kraig. I'm a huge fan of yours and have been watching your videos for many months. I finally got motivated to make my own hiking video inspired by you. Would mean a lot if everyone could check it out and Subscribe to me small channel :) Thanks! ruclips.net/video/q1NrfhlDX7g/видео.html
Hi, Love your videos. Couple of comments, don't tell the airline you are traveling with bear spray in your luggage! I use a lightweight umbrella as you mentioned the guide on Kilimanjaro did, works great for photography too.
Great breakdown! To the point, straight to the business! Thanks! For those who are upset about the amount of money Kraig spend on its gear I'd like to say: First, for Kraig it is already a business, so his expenses are justified. Second, you don't need a lot make good content or start hiking. You don't need the highest quality clothing or gear (especially if you hike short distances). And you don't need SONY camera and a drone to make good quality videos. Very often even a phone camera is more than enough (and they are so good nowadays). Good gear is nice to have of course. But you shouldn't be discouraged if you don't have one or can't afford it now.
Hello Kraig, thank you for sharing this very informative video. You do a great job on your videos. All the best to you. Take care out there and stay healthy. 🤗
Try out smart wool socks, they're very dependable and dry somewhat fast. Higher price point per pair, still worth it to me. Good info ,and good luck on All your travels.
I would say don't do summary shots or anything like that in your intro. I love the way you do them right now. It just starts slowly with you preparing and starting the hike and it really is like meditation to me. The slow starts and the developing beauty of nature as you go further never fails to make me smile. Thank you for doing what you do. We love you.
highly recommend Essential Wipes (i use the non scented). They are expandable wipes! They are about the size of a Tums, and you add maybe a tsp of water and it expands into a full sized wipe. Very small and light, as you don't carry the liquid weight. Perfect size. 5 of them fit in a tube about the size of a finger (I use my son's blood sugar test strip container) but a Nuun container or similar would work, too.
Hey Kraig! How you doing? I discovered your channel today and I literally fell in love, i'm from Brazil btw. I loved your hike videos, seeing them all, can i give you a suggestion? I love being in the nature, but i have 0 knowledge about hiking, it would be interesting if you made a couple videos about how to start, how not to get lost (my biggest fear), your first hike, advices, camping, etc.. Keep up with the great content man, now you have a new subscriber and a new Instagram follower!
Really great content, the quality of your hiking and camping gear, and your videography and photography skills are apparent. New subscription here. Awesome job. Great stuff man, well done!
Come to Argentina! With a few dollars you can do a lot here (you can go out and eat a very good meal for 5 - 7 usd)... Ushuaia, Chaltén, Calafate (near Torres del Paine), Mendoza, Catamarca... so many incredible places. Also, your videos are brilliant.. keep it up!
I finally could get the amazon essentials hooded long sleeve... It was out of stock here in Mexico, it is definetly worthy! this was a must I decided to buy after your first video, Thank you!
So sweet man! This was great to watch. I am heading out to film an 8 day Mountain Goat hunt so it's great to see how someone else is packing and find some new ideas!
Regarding your question about what works best as far as format goes for your videos. Your videos, for me, are super relaxing and meditative. This means that ads, in the middle of the video, are pretty jarring. I understand you need to monetize these videos and don't begrudge you that, but if it would be possible to concentrate ads at the begining or during the "recap" portion of your videos, it would enance the experience in my humble opinion.
@@kraigadams definitly an option at some point. Right now, I feel like I get more bang elsewhere for 12$ per month. I just want to make clear that I am in no way trying to complain. I 100% understand that this is how you generate revenue and I'll keep watching either way. I also have no idea how much control you can even have as to the timing of ads placement in your videos.
Hike Zhangjiajie and Guillin in China dude! After corona obv... i just came back from doing a 12 day iceland ringroad + westfjords road/hike trip. I was in Isafjordur and remembered your video and the weather was amazing but sadly i didn't have enough time to do Hornstrandir, was a bit frustrated. But man did i overpack for the trip... This helps me out a lot. I'd like to do Mont Blanc next.
Might not be a "minimalist mindset", but gosh I CAN'T WAIT to be able to get all this stuff and just get lost into the nature for days... As always, much love, Kraig!
Yeah, don’t buy into super minimalism with hiking. Carry the extra few pounds, your body and muscles will adapt and your comfort and happiness will be much greater - allowing you to feel better and go farther and enjoy it more!
The travel videos are such a treat to the eyes, ears and the mind. Love the music. Love the drone shots. Love the detailed breakdown of the hikes. Love the thought and effort you put in. Keep it up !
Your videos inspired me to try and make a couple hiking vids of my own while in the Adirondacks. I don't know how you do it man! lol Adds a lot of time to the hike. I like the vids I got from it, but I found myself not wanting to spend too much time making sure the shot was just right, so most of the time I shot in auto and didn't bother with a tripod. I might just need to get a better flow going though. I like these hiking gear update vids. Always good to see what kinda gear you're using while on the trail.
Hey Man love ur wedding videos and the travel ones little more. Plz also share how u charge ur batteries on the go and how u protect them from discharging in the cold weather. Also why u don't format ur cards? What's the science behind that.
Man, thanks for not doing 2-min intro! It's so rare now when you don't have to skip the beginning.
I hate that too
The only thing more annoying than long intros is folks who spam their channels in the comments. @@vyomps
AGREED! It’s a pity that so much money money and effort went into intros that everyone seems to detest.
Exactly 🙌🏻

So happy not to hear a 5 minute ad in the middle either!
That and he has high dollar investment items and lower priced items like the sun hoodie that is down right amazing!!!!

Mate the packing up video in last 2.5 mins is simply amazing, you've done this 10 times easier than me 😂
I love your videos.
Thanks for all the info on light-weight gear...that is the backpack I am thinking about - nice to see how you pack it and wear it. Like the tent, too.
Amazing production quality and helpful recommendations. thank you for adding links to the items. So much work put into this and it certainly doesn't go unnoticed! great job Kraig!
That sleeping bag liner is a great idea. You do NOT want to have to wash your quilt. Such a PITA and mine hasn't been the same since.
Maybe one day I'll bring back my IG.
all future podcast-type content will be on the channel in the form of updates. yeah, there were some unique conversations but I didn't see the replay value of keeping them up
you absolutely have to check out Canadian Rockies #Banff! The amount of diversity of terrain you get on a single hike is unbelievable.
First aid kit, bro! I'm putting together a pretty badass kit myself... though it's much more likely to be needed for mountain biking than for hiking!
I personally use two person tents because you gain so much more versatility and comfort for little extra weight, volume and price.
Thank you for the practical advice about filming and editing. I've been concerned about not being good at it right away. You defiantly eased my mind.
Keep doing what your instincts tell you, this is why your content is so universal, superb
Nice load out Kraig. Drone only hiking film would be cool to see. I bet you could pull it off.
Outstanding share. Thanks for taking the time. Cheers! And hope to pass you on the trail one day.
Yess! Amazing video as always Kraig. I'm a huge fan of yours and have been watching your videos for many months. I finally got motivated to make my own hiking video inspired by you. Would mean a lot if everyone could check it out and Subscribe to me small channel :) Thanks!

it's really soothing listening to you explaining every each one of the items on detail :))) Thank you so much fo sharing!
Hi, Love your videos. Couple of comments, don't tell the airline you are traveling with bear spray in your luggage! I use a lightweight umbrella as you mentioned the guide on Kilimanjaro did, works great for photography too.
Oops! I should have watched the Columbia vid first, Yah umbrella!
Great breakdown! To the point, straight to the business! Thanks!
For those who are upset about the amount of money Kraig spend on its gear I'd like to say:
First, for Kraig it is already a business, so his expenses are justified.
Genius. So much useful information and a straight-forward vibe. Thanks for this.
8:12 Do the tall people know that you use their socks?
😅😅😅
Learned more from this that the previous 10 I have just sat through ,best wishes greetings from U.K
I second this🙋
Thanks for all the information. Great to listen to you explaining how do you do your hikes.
Thanks for sharing your setup with us. Am looking forward to watching your gear evolve in the future. Cheers and happy trails 🥾🧳
Nicolas Caron or you could pay for RUclips premium
@@kraigadams definitly an option at some point. Right now, I feel like I get more bang elsewhere for 12$ per month. I just want to make clear that I am in no way trying to complain. I 100% understand that this is how you generate revenue and I'll keep watching either way. I also have no idea how much control you can even have as to the timing of ads placement in your videos.
Your VPL was visible when you wore your black long pants on top of your running shorts. Love it.
All your work is top notch. Informative and much appreciated.. Look forward to more.
Might not be a "minimalist mindset", but gosh I CAN'T WAIT to be able to get all this stuff and just get lost into the nature for days...
As always, much love, Kraig!
Well, minimalism in hiking is kinda terrible
Yeah, don’t buy into super minimalism with hiking. Carry the extra few pounds, your body and muscles will adapt and your comfort and happiness will be much greater - allowing you to feel better and go farther and enjoy it more!
Must agree with both of you
The travel videos are such a treat to the eyes, ears and the mind. Love the music. Love the drone shots. Love the detailed breakdown of the hikes. Love the thought and effort you put in. Keep it up !
Bro, you are the best! Thanks a lot for sharing your equipment. Appreciate your videos! Good luck in your journeys!👍👍👍
Yes I live in New York. Avoid this place at all cost. Ever think of a hot tent ? 😊❤️🇺🇸❄️☃️🛷⛺️🌄. Great videos you make, fantastic scenery.
I watched your video with gear like 10 times and now new gear!! Thanks
Been watching for a minute. Love the minimal approach. Subbed. Thanks for the quality content and reviews.
Thank you for sharing Kraig. This is very helpful. Love your films.
Transparency is appreciated!
Hey Man love ur wedding videos and the travel ones little more. Plz also share how u charge ur batteries on the go and how u protect them from discharging in the cold weather. Also why u don't format ur cards? What's the science behind that.
I like the Idea of camping with as least about of gear and items as I need!
