Add Jamie O'Neal, Wynonna, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Terri Clark, and any 90's Female Country Star! The 90's were the BOMB for Female Country Nusic; HOWEVER...We CANNOT FORGET THE LADIES WHO STARTED IT ALL AND PAVED THE WAY...Patsy, Loretta, Dolly, Tammy, et. all!
She dedicated this song to her mom who was making a transition from disturbing life to a happier new life and closer to her daughter. So much love, strength, and support is locked in the lyrics!
I’ve never heard that before and I’ve been a fan of hers for 20 years. Well I should say I’ve been a fan of this song anyways. But what a cool thing to learn. This song means everything to me. My life in a song. I listened to this song nonstop moving from NC to OH to start over completely along with no one I even knew in OH. Just had to get away from him. So happy I did it too. ❤😊
Kept me driving from Louisiana to back to my home In Maine...three kids by myself...but i didn't have a chance over a year yet to have a "breakdown " yet.... at least we made it back here in Maine (not that i was willing but for better good when it came to three kids)
This song was playing on the radio after I left my mom in ICU for a break and her sister called to tell she had passed. I sure miss you Ma you were always my biggest inspiration and number one fan. Wish I could pick up the phone and hear your voice telling me I can get through this crazy shit I've gotten myself into. I know you are finally happy and healthy and I'm so glad I kept my shit together until you were gone. It's been a mess since you left, straight down hill and I'm praying for level place to come soon. See you when I get there...
As I was seriously considering quitting my job today, some advice my mom gave me about letting people have power over you circled my mind. Then this song came on and the lyrics hit so different. “I'd sure hate to break down here Nothin' up ahead or in the rear view mirror Out in the middle of nowhere, knowin' I'm in trouble if these wheels stop rollin'” I’m not breaking down here, y’all.
The first time I heard this song I was wondering about that, but then "leaving you was easier than being gone" made it clear that the car was just a metaphor for herself.
Jamie O'Neal is also classic, and Mary Chapin Carpenter as well, an incredible songwriter. Check 'em out, holla back and let me know what you think! Have a GREAT day! 😁
I was four when I met Julie, and she was amazing. I saw her in concert and everything, and she is my hero. She was really nice and didn't treat me badly. She played hide and seek with me, and stopped the concert when I ran up on stage with her. She wasn't even mad, I got to sing with her and she took me and my mom out to dinner, and still sends me the occasional card.
Julie is a very nice, down to earth, Christian lady. I met her on a few occasions, at an MS luncheon, and dinner. I could not even tell she has MS. I walk like I am drunk, but Julie glides, or sachets, her way around. She is my favorite MS speaker, and has a nice voice too.
I have to say, from a songwriter's standpoint, this is how it's done. Fantastic lyrics, brilliant wordplay, heartfelt melody, catchy hook, wonderful build...it's got it all. For those aspiring songwriters, listen and take note.
I've been there...Hell, I'm still here! I was on drugs and i'm still battling the addiction. I listen to this song and it helps remind me of what I want in my life. Sometimes I think it would be so much easier to just go back to my old ways, but I have to stay strong and keep going. "God, help me. Keep me moving somehow"..."Dont let me break down here!"
This woman is the total package, ●talented ●beautiful ●substance she deserves big success! Especially with the material she's put out. She's exactly what Country needs!
This song was playing was playing on the radio as i left my drunk and violent husband for the last time. I was broke and driving a Chrysler from Oklahoma to my sisters house in Georgia.........i have lived the fear of hoping i didn't break down......but it was worth every minute of it to escape the misery.
When artists like this don't explode.....there is something wrong with the music industry.... She should have been as big as Carrie....Miranda.....etc.
Ive been singing this song since i was a little girl and all i knew as a child was the pain turning to hope from the melody and as i grew and learned about growing through strength and resilience of puting yourself back together after heartbreak its become a reminder of how to keep going!
reminds me of when my mom and sad split. I still remember all the sad heartbreak songs she played. she was strong though to be able to leave, I promise myself I'll never break down anywhere.
Julie you should so rerelease this song now! Maybe it was bad timing but you are amazing and I can't understand why you're not killing the charts. You have been sadly overlooked somehow. Care bear Lorie rocks my socks just so everyone knows! God bless your career and I hope you get all you deserve!!!
Her songs and her ,makes feel like a different person ,over and over like ❤️ times like she," knows what real like is all heart." You shows how to touch people in her songs!
"baby, leaving you is easier than being gone"..... such a great lyric and so incredibly true of leaving any toxic relationship. leaving doesn't mean the love is instantly gone, those feelings can linger for so long after you've left and you can second guess your decision a million times, but that doesn't mean it was not the right decision
julie roberts is one of the most underated and unapreciated country singers. she has such a unique husky voice that is unlike any other female country artist around, as well as a unique style of music, which she writes. she deserves more credit than what she is given.
Rebecca, love country music, love your comment, love this song, ashamed to say that as i post this reply, that itys the first time i have heard this, fantastic
Even if you've never experienced this type of heartbreak, this gifted lady somehow makes you feel it. Unfortunately! I had the real life experience years ago, but I made it through. Bad things happen, but love your life. It's the only one you have.
gnitpeohseluj I agree with you! I loved this song years ago.... Stumbled upon it recently and thought to myself.... God how did I forget about this song?!!? Its so good
This song will forever take me back to 19... when every thing i owned was in the back of my black mustang,... ranaway with my baby leaving everything and everybody ive ever known, with hopes of maybe arriving across the country to meet my dad for the first time, with nothing but 400 dollars in cash.... i made it.. good/scary times
I love her and the entire video. I relate to the emotion of wanting to leave a relationship gone awry. I've been down that same road on foot over the desert many times. I'm thankful to Jesus for the gift of victory and blessings. I believe in thanking God before the blessings. Rejoice in the Lord always 😊
Breaking up with the wrong person is a long journey in progress. We always need to be ever vigilante and on the lookout for breaking down, here, there, and wherever, especially during the early parts of the journey. We need to stay focused and keep moving forward. One day, there won't be such a strong need to think about breaking down and keeping a watchful eye on the rear view mirror and what is up ahead.. just a town left behind from the past. The more miles covered the further back the memories of yester- year becomes.
This song has helped me in more then one way. Im going through a lot right now and it gives me strength to keep going. It helps me keep going for my daughter.
Haven't listen to this song in years.. Love this!! Reminds me of how strong I am.. This song was true in so many ways when I drove 1500 miles with my then 2 year old son. I had omega Oldsmobile will never forget ..
Been one of my favorite female country artist since I was in middle school, her music has gotten me through so many rough times and a few broken hearts!
I'll never understand why she didn't explode on the music scene. I know she was sick & I think she had problems with her label, but she is fantastic and deserved more recognition.

Stagger forward love.
I met this lady at a Port St. Joe, FL. meet and greet a looong time ago. I was probably 10 at the time. She was so sweet 🩷
All of the abuse I have been through leaves me broken & scared. Lord, hold me in your arms forever and never let me go, you are the only man I trust.

I’m not breaking down here, y’all.
2024 and this is still a good one to pull up and listen to. A good country song!
Love how “I’d sure hate to break down here” has a double meaning in this song.
I know right. The song writer/s did a fantastic job.
The first time I heard this song I was wondering about that, but then "leaving you was easier than being gone" made it clear that the car was just a metaphor for herself.
You mean it's not just about a car?
Yeah I hate to break down here . 💕
Right around the corner there is a sandwich shop. They sell meatball sandwiches. The best I ever had.
IV always thought she had one of the prettiest voices in country music. 100% needs to be rereleased again.

She was in the south. In Alabama we did.
She was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.
I've been trying to remember her!! I just don't! Great song that I should remember. I'm not sure that this isn't a religious song...faith.
She didn't sell her soul to the Devil I mean Jew!
Criminally underrated. I would love to see her make another album.
