Hi, really enjoy your videos. I have used silicone to make molds. I used the 100% silicone caulking mixed with cornstarch. It kneads into a very nice smooth mixture that you can press objects into. I let mine dry about three days before using. I made some plaster/clay items from my old jewellery to use in projects. Loved it. I also make the cold porcelain clay and made a couple of fairy houses varnished really well and they are going on three years outside by my fish pond.
Amazing, I love your creativity, I too love the silicone and cornstarch method, there’s something very therapeutic about it! I found a piece yesterday I made from my cold porcelain recipe and thought ‘I really should make more from this’ as it’s the most robust stuff! Happy crafting Margaret 😊❤️
I stumbled upon your videos today, I love to listen to your tutorials. Your voice is so clear and soothing, it's like listening to a wonderful story. Also, your talent is amazing!🤩
I have a cool idea I've been so scared to execute cuz I've never made molds before, but after seeing this video, I'm super excited and comfortable trying, thank you!!
@@wendyzilli9735 thank you Wendy, it didn’t turn out quite as I hoped but love all those little birds 🐦 let’s hope everyone that tries it gets good results 🤞
I came across this video and as much as its informative, ur voice damnn was so soothing and calm.. i nearly dozed off.. it was that sweet.. thanks and love😊😍
Thank you, as you could see not always perfect but the bird worked out really well, I still need to paint the rest of the birds up, I'll show them over on instagram when i do instagram.com/redrockingbird
I make slugs and I usually do it with spray insulation and then cover it with tile adhesive but I thought if I could make one out of clay it's hardened. Make a mold out of plaster Paris then put silicone in that would that work? That would be a rubbery sort of slug
Thank you for doing this! I have wondered if you could do this with air dry clay, by using a sealed, waterproofed clay item, to put in a fresh piece of clay to make the mold ? Once the impression is in the clay, allowing it to dry, and sealing the “clay mold” with several coats of varnish, could you then use it as a mold with fresh clay? So, instead of silicone, both pieces woukd essentially be clay-the hardened sealed clay mold, abd tbe fresh clay to make the molded piece? Do you think it would work, or do you think the inflexibility of the clay mold would make it impossible?
Thanks. I have tried this kind of thing while imprinting the clay, for s dimple shape yes it can work. What is good about silicone is that the flex helps you get the clay out of the mold easier.
This is wonderful, thank you! If I want to then cast silicone in silicone, do you need to coat the mold with mold release or something similar? I know silicone sticks to silicone, but I forget what to put in between. Thanks again!
I saw with the bird you have incorporated a badge pin in the mould but you never showed with or how you worked this? Could you do a mini video tutorial on this please?
@RedRockingBird hmm if it needs to be sticky then cellotape might not be a good way to use :/ i might use double tape then. Um, nope , not loop it over, is like you turn the cellotape upside down and stick your clays. 😅

Great video. This is what I'm looking for, btw May i ask sis, What If I sealed the airdry clay with 2 or 3 Layers of acrylic paint..? Is it still work..?
can you please say which PU varnish you use? I don't even really know what it is (I understand varnish, just not sure about the PU part) - can you give a link to the varnish you use? or some alternatives? thanks :)
@@RedRockingBird so it is better to use it on a small piece but make sure you have something that won’t let the resin stick to the modeling clay or else it won’t look good and you will have modeling clay stuck to you resin
Hey you should turn on Super Thanks! It's enabled for all RUclips creators. Then I can send you a couple bucks as a thank you for your amazing tutorials!!
I'm trying to make a air-dry clay slug. Pore plaster Paris around it for mold. And then fill it with silicone to make a rubber E-Type slug? I can't find anybody that can tell me.
This is awesome!!!
YAY thank you Heather and THANK YOU for suggesting I turn on 'Super Thanks' you rock ❤🧡💛💚💙💜

This is so helpful! Would you be able to share what polyurethane product you use to seal the air dry clay?
A polyurethane varnish, mine is minwax but that’s what we had in the garage, should be a link in video description to some
Awesome!
Glad you enjoyed
Thank you for the video! I was just wondering if you think it would be fine to use polymer clay as the casting to create my silicone mold?
currently experimenting with different materials to mold from
This is wonderful, thank you! If I want to then cast silicone in silicone, do you need to coat the mold with mold release or something similar? I know silicone sticks to silicone, but I forget what to put in between. Thanks again!
I’ve not done silicone in silicone, I could imagine it getting a bit sticky 🙃
I saw with the bird you have incorporated a badge pin in the mould but you never showed with or how you worked this? Could you do a mini video tutorial on this please?
The one from resin or air dry clay are you most interested in? Thanks
@@RedRockingBird yes please! Thank you for getting back to me, i appreciate it.
this video is really helpful ❤ thank you! can i just put cellotape (the other side) to stick on my clays before molding ?
if it's pretty sticky it might work, do you mean when you loop it over?

@RedRockingBird noted , thank u! by the way, can i use glue varnish to coat my air dry clay before molding ?
@@tofujelly1511 something that is definitely waterproof and then fully cured

When you make the slic Do you put it in a airtight container ajar
Yes I do put the slip in an air tight jar
Can these molds be used in baking - as in cookies?
I'm not sure I'd like to put them in the oven
Great video. This is what I'm looking for, btw May i ask sis, What If I sealed the airdry clay with 2 or 3 Layers of acrylic paint..? Is it still work..?
Thank you. I find acrylic paint still let’s moisture through 🙃
what to do if the base of the stuff you like mold is not flat?
More on that hopefully coming in a video later this year
can you please say which PU varnish you use? I don't even really know what it is (I understand varnish, just not sure about the PU part) - can you give a link to the varnish you use? or some alternatives? thanks :)

Would modeling clay also work as a mold for resin
Try it on a small piece, I will too at some point, always testing new things, I do use modelling clay for some of these processes
