I purchased this phone about three weeks ago. It's great! I love it! No complaints. I was worried that it would have poor battery life due to the small size, but I've been very pleasantly surprised. In fact, it's the longest lasting smartphone I've owned yet! It easily lasts for a day, and I can often go to sleep with more than 50% charge. No fingerprint sensor, but that wasn't a deal-breaker for me. It's got a big and beautiful display with great contrast and excellent brightness - over 600 nits! The performance is great too. It's smooth and snappy with very little lag, (although I must confess that I rarely play graphically intensive games on my phones). If you like large phones (like I do), then you won't regret this purchase. It may not quite have the performance of a flagship, but it is also almost half the price. I highly recommend this phone!

If you are asking me, selfie camera (front facing) has the best optical stabilization of any phone camera on the market. You can watch Erica Griffin's channel where she shows a video in which she is jogging and you cannot tell she is jogging. It is just simply smoothly moving in the direction towards she is jogging. In high ISO, low light situation, the pictures very natural and sharp. Although, some people like to see overly lit and saturated colors while Sony is all about replicating what is natural. I will try and get a sample some time today. However, youTube will not let me post link to a picture as it sees at spam and deletes it.
An absolutely beautiful phone, I own the X and I really want the Ultra as I like the wide-screen. I've just ordered myself one of these, Sony's software has always been super smooth and there are some great features and customisation available and software support has dramatically increased over the years. Hopefully they will now improve the design and stop bringing back old designs!

Using the XA1 ultra to write this. The phone is great, got it after my Xperia z5 broke and it feels amazing for a mid ranger. Top end phones cannot justify their price these days but this thing feels like a steal for its price!
I have been using a 6.4" Xperia Z Ultra (the XA1's pre-predecessor) for two years now. And I have to say: I love the big screen. It's fantastic for watching videos and for gaming, and also typing goes really fast - if you use both hands. I am now looking for a new phone, as there are a few problems with my XZU: 1. The camera. Absolutely crap. It doesn't even have a flashlight ffs! 2. The OS. Android 5.1.1 is slightly outdated. 3. The size. Sure, a big display is great, but 6.4" is just too big, especially in combination with the ZU's large bezels. I've tried out the XA1U at a local tech store, and I really like the size on it. It's still a big display, but thanks to the small bezels, it actually fits into pockets. I'm probably gonna get the XA1 Ultra, and when I got it, I will keep using my good old XZU as a tablet. Because that's what it's best at.

If you play intense games on it, the smartphone does get hot - but that happens with every single phone, not only with Sony. Apart from that, my Z Ultra doesn't get too hot, slightly warm in some cases. This is also normal, and it's influenced by many factors, from the technology inside the phone to the materials used on the outside. About the battery: If I use my XZU normally, it gets me through pretty much exactly a day. At the end of the day before I go to bed I usually have below 5%. I have the Stamina battery saving mode enabled at all time though. Conclusion: After 2 years of using a Sony smartphone, I can highly recommend it.

XA1 Ultra does not have laser autofocus as stated in this video, there's not even an opening for a laser on the back. It has phase detection autofocus.
Looking for something to replace my now dead Nexus 7 tablet. This seems to fit the bill at only £329. I'm also considering it for a work phone. The large screen should make email and video conferences a pleasure and because it's not going to be used heavily the battery should last for days. Great review GSMArena peeps. Keep up the good work.

I have this phone too! I'm planning to buy Samsung Z Fold 3 but when I see the specs it has the same front camera that the Xperia XA1 Ultra. And also have 12 MP triple camera, while Sony's one have 23 MP single camera. But in practice what's these mean? Is triple camera sum 12mp +12 mp +12mp, or it is a fancy stuff only?

I am suing Sony Xperia XA1 Ultra after the oreo update my phone lcd graphic got flicking fuzzy and not working as it should. Don't update from 7.1.2 to Oreo. I am glad it is still under 1 year warranty meaning this phone won't even last longer then 1 year!

I think they have trademarks issue with their fingerprint sensors, so they disable these feature in the US models even in the flagship because they would have to pay royalties in the US in order to use the feature, so they opted out to disable it. they generally enable them in international markets
Then it wouldn't be a budget phone. Sony made it on purpose so the phone would fit between the pricing range of $300-$400. If they'd add in the features you mentioned, the phone would have costed twice than it should. My advice? If those features are super important to you, consider looking for other phones.

You should only buy a sony phone from an authorised offline retailer. There are cheats online, specially with Sony phones

Considering that for average use (zooming in and out, gaming) you just use two fingers, I don't think this is supposed to be an issue.
