- Buying fish that are shipped to you, especially for the first time, can be scary. Will you get what you paid for or be ripped off? What if the fish arrives sick or dead? Will the vendor stand behind their product?
In this video I share with you some (not all) of the vendors that I have directly dealt with that have delivered and if something was not right made sure to fix it right away.
This is by no means the only great vendors out there. I'm sure that there are many. These are just ones that I've dealt with directly and can speak with you from first hand experience.

Hey Ben once again great video, I just ordered 12 peacocks and haps from Tampa bay cichlids for my 125 they are very affordable and great selection. So far had no issues with them.
That huge Fusco in my 150 and my beautiful Sand Diver were from Tampa Bay.

ben great advice on the sponge pre filters, I bought 12 of them from kens fish supplies out of the boston area. I bought the ati pro #2 coarse filters 2.45 each great price. I cut them back plugged the bottom with the piece I cut. so I then took the bottom trays on all my fluval 407s out, and took out the sponge and loaded them up with the biohome ultimate. still have the main sponges when water enters the filter. just gives me an extra tray of media thanks again. joe h

As Always another good clip. On the Faroe Island there is only one fish shop, dealing mostly community fish, however when I am on look for a fish, I request the list of fish from his vendor in Czech Republic, then I chose from the list what I want. Quality is good, however if I want a male fish, the cost will be hight due to transportation, example a 5” Eye Biter runs up to 250USD, so for now I only have a grow tank and as the fish get bigger I purchase bigger fish. International delivery are once a month. Only disadvantage is I do not see the fish before I get them.

His customer service is terrible in my opinion.
I've gotten fish from The Cichlid Shack and really like them and how they package up the fish. Imperial Tropicals for a group of Protomelas Ornatus and was very happy with my one order from them. Live Fish Direct for a group of Tramitichromis Intermedius Kambiri and fish were good but was a little iffy wondering how the fish would have been had it been delayed at all. Thus far if I have a choice for a fish and is available from multiple places I'd go with The Cichlid Shack if they were one of the options.
James at the Cichlid Shack is committed to providing good quality. I hope to visit his place in person someday.

Hello Bigg Rigg, the fish at 5:06 was picked up at my local fish store and I believe that he's a hybrid sulferhead peacock cichlid.
Hi Ben! Im a new subscriber. Your tank is gorgeous. I used to keep cichlids when I was a kid but due to aggressiveness i gave up. Your chichlids looks like they are fine all together. Any tips on how to keep them from killing each other?? I want to start with cichlids again. Thank you.
Hi Kitty, My fish do go after each other but not too violent and it looks like it's going in that direction I usually move them out to another tank. There will always be some degree of chasing and nipping with African Cichlids. I try to keep them matched up well and run the tanks at 78 F and maybe that helps. I also keep the lights off from 10am to 5pm, so they mellow out.

Store sounds epic. We have one like that out this way, north of San Diego, called Aquarium Depot.
A very large number of tanks with a great AC selection, along with other types of fish like community fish.
Fish hut does have other than AC’s but they specialize in them

Do you medicate your fish when they arrive?
Tip: Simplest ammonia test ....look at bubbles on the underside of the water surface , the bubbles will get smaller and smaller the higher the ammonia gets ..eventually they will become micro bubbles and will begin clumping more and more ....this eyeball test never fails ..this test was taught to me by a grand old fish keeping wizard ..I've been using it for years ..no problems

I bought shrimp on eBay, there's actually a lot of fish on eBay. the only issue with buying from eBay is the P&P is a lot because they want to send stuff next day delivery.
I used to buy from Tampa Bay Cichlids off of eBay. They would usually ship 2 day freight and I never had an issue with the fish arriving alive. There were some problems with getting males that would turn out to be females, but otherwise it was pretty smooth.
sometimes I find some gems at my local petco for the price compared to local fish breeders tht charge 50 for a fish when can get same fish for less then 10 dollars and quality is top notch most of my fish is from petsmart and petco jus gotta grow them out love your fish bud I recently purchased a 5 pack of a reliable source on line I won't trow them under the bus I will never order fish online I paid 100 dollars for my 5 pack what blew my mind I paid almost another 100 dollars for shipping thts insane and got them in few days not overnight paying tht price is insane I think some breeders charge crazy for shipping prices doesn't make sense but oh well

Sometimes he gets backlogged and will take a while to reply. Keep trying but if no luck, consider other vendors like The Cichlid Shack, Imperial Tropicals, Cunningham, Wonder of Cichlids, Daves Rare, etc
