Yes I'm aware of the 2 extra weapons and many "unused" enemies in the Map Editor. I had a bit planned to talk about them in the video, but cut it because I figure I can just talk about them when more of the campaign is released. Playing the long game with this one.
Old comment and i am not sure if it was available when this game was released, but you can now use 3D models, it's an option in the settings menu. Everything that was spritebased, is turned into real geometrical 3D models, what the actual sprites themselves are made from. This means enemies and bodies, weapons and pickups no longer spin in 16 directions.
2 years later I was gifted this for christmas, and while I'm not all the way through there's some notable things to add to Trav's observations: 1. Fist parades are good and saved my opinion of the game's melee. Regular punching is ABYSMAL in turns of how slow, plodding, and unresponsive it is, but the rate of fire when holding down fire and altfire is much more Fist of The North Star-ish. 2. There's a shop level now. You need to buy the super shotgun and plasma rifle before you're given the freedom to buy the double jump (which is already proving pretty handy). Doing that gives you these real useful weapons WAY earlier. 3. Trav is indeed right, the second level has a hidden rocket launcher. Hint: check the general vicinity of the area behind the big portal setpiece. 4. The shotgun's charge shot mostly just functions as a way to get more accurate shots now, it seems. Basic shots are underwhelming compared to the beauty that is the super shotgun (4 barrels, yeee), but charged shots can delete things from across the map most of the time. 5. The minigun is still underwhelming to be honest. Any minigun in a game that forces you to either hold down altfire or suffer a delay before firing, instead of at least letting you fire at-will but at a slower rate of fire until it winds up, is a 0/10 in my book. It hits like a truck if you do put up with the bullshit and just keep altfire held down before opening any suspicious door or entering any given room though. 6. The shop adds a major use to the weapon trials: if you complete them in under a minute, the end rooms have some extra ores, the currency used by the shop. Worthwhile but keep in mind there's also extra ore sprinkled throughout the level. So if you fail to git gud on your first runthrough, take the time to poke around every corner instead of restarting, get all the extra goodies you can then exit and re-enter to go for the actual speedrun reward.
Hey trav, you might not see this but… in one of the more recent updates they named an achievement in your honour. That being “fist parade”. But all the achievements are hidden. You unlock it by killing an enemy with your fists. There might be more but I wouldn’t know, I only just restarted playing.
Dude you should check it out now. I believe that episode is fully done and it was amazing my first go around. Doing it again and I just love how bloody it gets
I feel like a good reward for completing the weapon trials would have been an upgrade to your ammo capacity that doubled or tripled how much you could carry
I feel like I’m in on the ground floor on your channel. The quality is punching well above its weight. I can’t wait to see your channel take a rocket ship to the moon.
There are actually 2 more weapons avaible for use in custom levels, the plexus which uses energy ammo and the chaos caster which uses chaos ammo and shoots the same acid projectiles fired by the bloaters and crawlers. The big enemy seen in the intro is also actually fully implemented, and Shademasters custom level remake of Dooms E1M8 Phobos Anomaly utilises them quite well as Baron of Hell type enemies, although theyre a whole lot tougher.
fun fact about the ammo cache level: In 2 earlier levels (chaos generator and marksman), there are secret exits which unlock other versions of ammo cache. These versions spawn you in 2 different halves of an upper area which give you access to switches. These in turn unlock a central area when both are activated. In the final ammo cache (the one you showed in the video) you can press a button in the central area which lowers a container which contains an ammo bandolier. This functions identically to the ammo pack in doom and doom 2, in that it doubles you're ammo capacity in the campaign.
I'm pretty sure the sprites are actually sprites, there are just significantly more angles than Doom or any of the Build Engine games had, so they look more three dimensional, plus there are normal maps applied to them that allow specular highlights (basically reflections) and shading, allowing lights from the environment to play off of them realistically and implying more detail than actually exists. I feel like you can kind of tell because there is no perspective, if it were just a bunch of filters then there should still be perspective shifts. Amid Evil uses the same normal mapped sprites trick for its weapon sprites and I didn't even realize those were sprites until I actually played the game, it's a pretty unique and convincing effect that manages to look old school while still maintaining a somewhat more modern visual flair. If I'm wrong though, I'd really like to know how they pulled it off, because it's very convincing.
"A lot like the Ticks from Titanfall 2, except somehow even more annoying." Probably because Ticks don't leave floor hazards upon destruction, really the only things annoying about Ticks aside from the explosive power and blast radius are they can swarm Pilots and be spawned from Reapers. Edit: Okay, I think the Plasma Rifle was inspired by the Bullseye from Resistance.
If anyone hasn't checked this game out yet, please do so now. The full release has tweaked gameplay and levels, the community maps are really creative, and more weapons
I feel like you should've probably talk about the workshop and level editor a little bit more. Like, the editor was built first and then campaign was built using it, and you may think that it's not that big of a deal and editor is actually limited with most of the cool scripts being done outside of it, but NO - I've played about 3 hours of editor levels and the amount of insanely cool shit fans put out just baffles me, some of it looks like something they mighte have put in the actual game, there are arenas that build themselves in the middle of the fight, there are actual puzzles, crazy tricks with impossible geometry, illusion tricks and many many more! Like really, if you liked the campaign just go to the workshop and try a few highest rated levels, it would only take an hour at most, but it will be worth it, trust me!
Currently playing thru this on Very Hard and its one of my first boomer shooters since the original ones, this game is freaking amazing. Great review! The only thing I don't agree with, is your opinion on the charge shot on the shotgun. It's broken yes, but if you are really skilled at this game, in the time it takes to charge the shotgun, you can put out more than double it's damage with other weapons. The starting pistol is stupidly underrated and can nuke those "cacos" in about 1 second by tap firing it on the 2 orange sacs on its bodies. I find myself using the charge shot more for nuking an enemy I know is going to be directly in front of me when I turn or strafe around a corner. The versatility in this games weapons are superior to most other games I've played, each one has a fantastic gameplay purpose.
Ok so I know that Civvie isn't the only boomer shooter guy out there but this video feels like it was pretty heavily influenced by him given the use of kids at the beginning and the fist parades. Not a bad thing cause I fuckn love Civvie.
this game has surprisingly addictive and very satisfying weapon gameplay. I got it as a joke (because boomer shooter), I thought I'd get bored with it after an hour, but I ended up playing almost the whole game in one go. :)
You are not supposed to use weapon switcher, rebind weapons to keys. Good thing about this game is that you can bind multiple weapons to same key which then allows you to cycle through them eg. my fast firing weapons (Shredder and Plasma Rifle) are bound to Q
I personally like using the weapon grid. I know it's not optimal, but it always makes sure I pick the right weapon, and it also gives me a second to breathe. Plus, I memorize where they are so I'm usually in it for about as long as I am in the weapons menu in say, a Ratchet and Clank game.
Holy high FOV batman, your screen looks so warpped and stretched out, i dunno how you play like that, i had mine set directly in the middle at 84 and it was still hurting my eyes
This is a really fun game, the weapons feel really good. I just wish people stopped saying this dumb "boomer shooter" meme. It doesn't even make sense. Boomers were scared and hated games like Doom, Heretic, Mortal Kombat, and other videogame nasties. Thinking it's teaching kids Satanism and corrupting their minds. If anything, they're millennial shooters because they're targeting the nostalgia that millennials have for 90s shooters. But that doesn't rhyme or is as catchy sounding. Retro shooters still works!

That's a strategy right there
i recomend that you play the latest veson of produes
Part 2 when?
I ran out of Civvie 11 videos and then found this and subscribed.
I’d say the content is about as good as Civvie truly a hidden gem in RUclips
Same
Same
Yup.
Same 🤙😎🤣
It's possible to get a very early plasma gun in the shredder trial so definitely worth doing.
I genuinely wonder what these models look like before made to look like sprites
Anyway.
Fist and Shred, until it is done.
They can be found on the Prodeus twitter page.
Seems like it could be an actually good game for a model viewer

Thanks for the tips 😁
The aesthetics have already drawn me in. And I do love games that are fast paced but have enough grounding that it doesn't feel slippery or floaty

I love the sound effects used every time you call the Shredders the Rippers lol
Half-Life Scientist screams are *chef's kiss*
I think the devs liked your fist parade joke, as the trophy you get for your first melee kill is called that.
Dude you should check it out now. I believe that episode is fully done and it was amazing my first go around. Doing it again and I just love how bloody it gets
An infection of parasites inside the belly of the beast, sounds like Prodeus, the kingdom between to me😅🤣💜
"this sprite work, isn't actually sprite work" Mr Guy, that is the line!!!
10:02 - "Decay", easily the best track in the game
Spent Fuel was definitely my favorite song in this game!

I'VE HAD THIS GAME 4 TWO DAYS AND ALREADY FINISHED IT
That homing plasma gun is very much the same weapon from Resistance: Fall of Man.
Insomniac make some insane guns
Loved the content man! Subscribed. And the coolest thing is that I got your channel recommendation from this game's devs on discord :)
The trials remind me of the speed trial from Titanfall 2
Can confirm, Prodeus is more doom than doom. Absolutely amazing game.
I could remember how the vid went so I’m rewatching it
4:07 that pic of the “fiend” (imp) makes me question “isn’t that the same name of the imps in Doom 3?”
Prodeus is a really impressive game. You can really make it your own experience.
This plays flawlessly at 240 FPS in Ubuntu Linux on Steam, it's literally a pleasure to play and it's buttery smooth.
Finishied this game a few days ago, still mopping that last, huge kill-count achievement. Fucking blast
This game is simply awesome! Played it and had a blast. These two dev guys know what they are doing.
You deserve so many more subscribers.
I subscribed for the annual FIST PARADE.

You can now bind different weapons to the same key. I personally like the weapon selection grid.
for those worried about the weapon grid, it has been updated with mouse selection, so you won't spend more than a second in it with a bit of practice.
Recently I figured out you can play through the game with 4 people it’s so fucking good

Love using these shotguns and that quad shotgun is perfect.
So how long we have to wait until you make the fresher Prodeus review?
Fists Parade ! I’m gonna try that next time I play this game ! O:
Great video been looking forward to this review.

Agreed I was blown away when I playing it recently on gamespass...the custom campaigns really are amazing
the lightning gun alt fire reminds me of the og bfg tbh
11:02 Maybe THAT'S what it's the genesis of😆
The dlc for this game looks awesum

Shotgun trial gives you a lot of Ore for a very easy trial
20:10 is very much a civvie 11 moment
Doom 2016 meets half life meets blood
Not sure if I see the Blood comparison, unless you mean literal blood, in that case - yeah there's a lot.
@@ThatTravGuy but you are right i love the gore
Just realized the name Prodeus is Pro Deus.
This game’s music makes me want to chew bubble gum and kick butt. And I happen to have some gum right here....
This game looks really good glad you made this video on it
*Sick.*
*Sick.*
No Prodeus 2023 (final build?) review yet? 😉😁
Travvie 11
Pro...Deus
This looks like a great game tbh, amazing
great game design opinion, review, & analysis /breakdown
Ok so I know that Civvie isn't the only boomer shooter guy out there but this video feels like it was pretty heavily influenced by him given the use of kids at the beginning and the fist parades. Not a bad thing cause I fuckn love Civvie.
Civvie was one of the several youtubers that inspired me to have a fun recurring gag counter. They "hey kids" is a coincidence lol
"The only stain on an otherwise perfect level" he said, in a room full of blood stains that is.
Neato. Looks fun.
I really wanna see this guy do project warlock.
Fun video. I have been planning to play this game later...looks fun as hell.
Also are u gonna review halo 4? I caught u streaming it a few days ago.
Also why dose enemy's sometimes turn orange. EDIT. Im stupid it's for when they take damage
this game has surprisingly addictive and very satisfying weapon gameplay. I got it as a joke (because boomer shooter), I thought I'd get bored with it after an hour, but I ended up playing almost the whole game in one go. :)
Reloading killed it. Being interrupted is just stupid.
ive played all the retro fps games made by indie companies on steam, but all shall reign beneath....
*DUSK*
15:38 Ready to absolutely... BlazBlue it?
Fist range feels a little high.
Tbh it feels better than it looks.
This is the real doom 3
He punches enemies from 10 feet away?
💥💥🔥🔥 💥🔥💥🔥

God I wish this was on xbox
Boy have I got some good news for you.

Man, this game has a lot of good fisting.
:)
Invisible war review?
Not for a while, my guy
@@ThatTravGuy Understandable, have a nice day.
Also your DX1 retrospective was fantastic.
Not watching it yet, wanna play the game first
I'm feeling a slight Civvie11 influence in the tone and style of this video, don't take it as a complaint because it's not

I play just about everything at 110 FOV lol
The game is great, but for some reason it's look reminds me of a fake video game you'd see in a movie
no sewer count...?
I think you're on the wrong channel, my friend

I had too much reskinned civvie vibes
