I too am a small woman being 5'3" and own a large guardian breed dog, a Rottweiler weighing in at about 125-130 pounds. He is the most silly, sweetest, gentle giant I have ever owned. I also have a smaller female about 80 pounds. And I have a Pitbull and a Pitbull/Cane Corso mix that come in around 60-70 pounds. I've owned larger Pitbulls for almost 40 years. I love large breed dogs and will always have one in my life. I've also owned small dogs all my life but the larger breed dogs have always been easier to train. My Rotties will turn on a dime for recall but my 2 Chihuahuas act like they have no name and no idea who I am.

Because of there emotions and if you can’t physically handle them, it takes a very confident woman I wouldn’t recommend a scary woman or person to have one

The best pulled over ticket with 2 Big Dogs? On a Sunday I went to Walmart. The clown cutting me off was not needed. So! Went faster to leave the idiot screwing up back there. I was around 120 MPH crossing the over pass and saw..the lights of Justice trying to catch me. I pulled over and waited. It was a Moma Bear! She calmed me down with simple words. I am not taking your Truck. They love me too but your eating the 30 over ticket. Her words.." I love the Pups and know if you wanted to walk away with HP? You would have." after explaining my 435Hp Colorado that needs to get food and space... She actually asked me to take it on the Highway.

I am a 52 yr old woman now so I guess I was 45 with my first experience with our rescues of our 2 Cane Corso’s and I didn’t bat an eye and the Vet telling me not to do it made me want to do it more. They told me they were viscous I am 5’5”. 130 and yes my boys fought at first obviously we had to establish leadership and when I would stand between them my husband would freak out but my boys quit immediately they never growled, nipped or even looked at me like they had an issue with me. They laid down immediately. You mention Pride and you are exactly right. I LOVE MY BOYS!! It is all love and not a chore❤❤❤ I agree with everything ya said. Are they scary strong yes but what a great safety feeling!!! I feel safe!!❤ I love you guys and this channel. The first what people call pitbull, although pitbull isn't a breed, first thing out of my vets mouth, long career now retired, best dog to have. Because there are so many they are healthy. Never had any problem with any Bully breed. 1 thing that I noticed, he didn't speak first about the behavior of that type of dog. And even though that silly man would apologize before and after taking his temperature and before make mention of it not being his intention to embarrass him, I am not kidding. His bedside behavior is not the reason he never had a problem. With a Bully breed

70 year old grandma here. You earned my respect the moment you said you realized you needed training to learn how to handle and live with big dogs like canes. I have had big dogs all my life, most of them rescues too.
What I learned from the history of those abused and discarded dogs and from dog owners I know, is that a great lot of peple MISS the necessary skills to DEAL with ANY dog, even little ones! So many people think: I want a dog, I get a dog and then the dog ruins their life. So the dog has to go because (sorry) they are too stupid to realize that the faault is THEIRS.
Yes, you will be safe wherever you go!
Love them with all your heart because a dog's love for us is unconditional.
I miss all my dogs so badly that I went through severe depression when I had to give up the last 2. (health reasons) 💔💔💔💔💔
Please, teach other dog owners THEY Need to learn how to live with a dog, dogs are a lot smarter and faster about this...🙄🙄🙄

The roles were switched in my situation: I had a rottweiler when my husband and I first started seeing each other. My family has always had working/guardian breeds (save for a couple smaller breeds my grandpa had as he got older). My husband was really nervous at first, but warmed up to my rottweiler really quickly. We're looking forward to getting another rott and a corso as well in the not-too-distant future. I'm not a *petite* female, but to know i would have the backup from a guardian breed if something happened while my husband isn't home is very reassuring. Also, my mom is physically disabled and will be living with us. To know our guardian breeds will protect her if we're not home is very comforting as well.

65 yr old with an 84 lb female fawn corso. She's awesome. Unfortunately, at 1 1/2 yrs old, she had her first seizure and eventually was diagnosed with epilepsy. Shes 3 now and it's been quite a ride, but I don't think I've ever loved a dog more than I love her. Make sure you do your homework and find a reputable breeder. I had no idea going in. But she is beautiful and quirky and full of personality. She was a little crazy in her younger years but with lots of socializing, she's come around and lost a lot of her fear. These dogs are amazing.

@gingermerriman569 no, I don't. Just regular baths, combing with a flea comb, apple cider vinegar in their drinking water, diatomaceous earth sprinkled around the house and in their favorite places they lay on during the day. Wash bedding in hot water frequently. I just try to make any fleas as uncomfortable as possible. Lol. Lived here 12 yrs and only had 2 summer seasons that they had fleas. I think it's because we had feral cats then. My girl's seizures are genetic. Other puppies in her litter have seizures. My daughter has her brother and he has focal seizures.

I met my first Corso 6 years ago and i fell in love with her and she took right to me. Her owner would leave her sitting outside shops and i would stand with her because i was so terrified someone would steal her. She would sit on my feet and watch everyone coming from.every direction. She had the softest muzzle the most beautiful soft brown eyes. I was never scared of her amd she was the only dog my little rescue terrier would tolerate. Im 5ft2 and I could own 2. I've had dogs since i was 8, and im 47. Ive always rescued and often difficult cases who ive mangaed to turn round. Your dogs are beautiful. As long as you OWN your pack position as LEADER, your dog will trust you and do whatever you ask of them. I don't, nor have ever had a Cana Corso, but have had Rottweilers for the past 45 years. We just had to say "hasta luego" to our last Rottie-Boy (15 years old) last month. Though I have a 1-12 yr old Aussie in my home, the house just seems so empty, and I really miss his football-sized head. This last Rottie kept me on my toes, but he ALWAYS listened and obeyed me no matter the situation. If you "do the work at the front end", you'll enjoy the rest of the ride. Enjoy the loads of fun and love that await your days ahead!

I think many people can’t imagine that a dog as big and powerful as a Cana Corse can be such a love bug. When I was growing up in the 70’s we had German shepherd dogs on the farm and many people were fearful of them. The thing with shepherds is they are loving and attentive to their family and aloof and distant to strangers and if a stranger is in your yard they are going to let you know. It seems to me Cana Corse are very much the same. They know their pack and don’t roll over for belly rubs for just anyone because they are always doing their job guarding.

I had one and I absolutely loved mine!!! He was the biggest baby in the world!!!! He loved me so much as well ... He actually followed me around the house sometimes and if I was cooking he would lay so he could look in and see me!!! When I was sick he only left my side when he went outside with "him"😂.... I was bedridden for a couple of weeks and he was too.... I had a horrible cold/flu/covid situation and was super super sick. When I could finally move around he was on my heels...he would even bust in the if I was in there too long or if I coughed.... He was the best nurse!!! Training him wasn't hard and he always wanted to be a "special boy"!!! .... He even loved me more than he loved "him" and he had him for 5-6 years before we moved in. The dog was an outside dog for the first 6 years of his life then I brought him in cause I just don't believe in outside dogs😂.... You would have thought he lived as a pampered pooch his whole life!!! I miss him soooooo much!!!

We adopted a 15month old neutered boy from interstate and his training was on point. We took him out the very next day to a large hard wear store and he behaved exceptionally well. Walking every day out in the community, meeting loads of people and other doggo’s. Having him meet friends at the front door, letting him know who’s let in might be ok.
One month later he’s now starting to know this is his home. My 21yo daughter and myself weigh less than he does so the mentality of leadership is key for us. Adjusting as an adolescent into a new school/home he’s going to test and push boundaries, he’ll whine and not want to do what he’s told. I’m the pack leader. My husband isn’t home much (long haul operations manager).
Working hard to keep this new, big protector of ours listening and obeying, anxiety free and controlling his impulses as possible.

You're absolutely right about the character of big work (guardian) dogs. Imagine that I used to have a male German shepherd and at the same time my parents used to have a toy-sized female pekingese and the dog that used to make a mess was the very bad mannered toy dog, while the other one, exactly as you described was able to feel even the slightest emotion of you and allways tried to comfort you, by trying to get in your lap. At the same time he was very gentle with children everywhere, while on the opposite the the small one was allways jealous of them. I really enjoy your videos for the relations with your dogs and I have to admit that when I'll be able, I dream of having once again a giant breed.

My parents were often away or not present and he took over. It might be silly to say but I feel he was the one to be there for me when my parents divorced and the hardest thing I had to do was to leave him behind when I moved away with my mother. Currently trying to get a pet friendly apartment to adopt a local female malinois rescue called Shy. I have PTSD and CPTSD and I know malinois are not usually service dogs for anxiety disorder suffering people but she's such a sweet girl, I want to adopt her ASAP. And I've worked with the race before and love them.

I have never had any fear of owning any breed of dog and I'm 5'2". I guess it's because I've trained Arabian horses - it all comes down to respect and asserting yourself as being in charge. I'm not sure if anyone else has mentioned this, but when you give an animal a command you also need to be aware of how you give it. In a previous video, you gave a command and it wasn't in a "strong" tone and Joey Justice was kind of like "whatever". You have a wonderful relationship with the "boys" and that is wonderful to watch. Thank you.

I am a 4'11" woman and have owned mastiffs for over 20 years. My first was a female Bullmastiff Isis, and when I met my partner she was 1 year old and 110 lbs. He had a 5lbs Chihuahua and was very nervous around my girl at first. She won him over completely, became best friends with the Chihuahua and he has been hooked on big breeds ever since. Our last dog was a severely abused Cane Corso rescue named Lucy, who was afraid of the whole world. We took her to a specialized dog trainer in fear-aggressive behavior, and were able to work thru a lot of her issues. Sadly, we lost her 2-years ago, and I just haven't been ready to get another dog, she just broke my heart with her damage and short life. Someday we will get a French Mastiff this time around. LOVE the mastiff line, such majestic, loving animals! The BEST guard dogs and family friendly, don't let the size fool you! I have seen 150lbs dogs grovel at the feet of toddlers and let them climb all over them, pulling ears, poking fingers in the mouth, looking so happy. They love kids!!

I live on the outskirts of a small town. Someone i assume from the nearby large city dumped a grown cane corso nearby. I think they try to justify dumping their dogs here, thinking someone on one of the farms will take them in, and they'll live a great life in the country. I tried to give him food and water, but he was scared and ran off. I tried to get the local rescue to come get him, but they dont accept large breeds. Didn't see him again for a week, although I drove around praying..literally, to find him again. Then, one day, i saw a lady stopped and a dog laying in the road. It was him. He was too weak from no food to get up. She said she would take him home, but he was too heavy for us to lift. We got him off of the road (a country back street). She said her husband got off the night shift about 1 a.m., and they would come back and try to get him. When they came back, he was gone. I was so upset because this family wanted him. I drove around each day praying that he would reappear so the family could take him. It also had to be when the husband was home because he was HUGE. Would you believe a few days later i found him again. Several people had been leaving food and water out. He was eating. I got out and called the family. They rushed over to get him. He followed the husband straight to his truck and let him lift him in since he was still weak. They sent pictures of him laying on the couch with his head in the husband's lap and another with their 2 little girls loving all over him. He was just laying their enjoying it all. I had never seen a cane corso in person and didn't know that's what he was. Apparently, the husband had always wanted one. This one was a beautiful blonde color with a black muzzle. A gentle giant...a happy ending. ❤

I have all the same feeling about my jughead puppers! My husband was actually the one against owning a apbt and am staffs. But 23 years and 4dogs later they've all been one or the other and he'll tell you now he wouldn't have a dog without a bowling ball head! I want a cane corso next. However I do not agree with the linebreading of the places closest to me, so I'm still waiting for the right dog at the right time. My baby just turned ten so I know we only have a few more good years with her and I want to make them all about her for now. But I love that you have the confidence and understand the importance of the right training when telling people about getting a larger breed/or really any dog. You rock chicka💖

Our mastiff mix is 25% Cane Corso. She has 100% Cane Corso personality, capability to love, sensitivity, ability to understand, trainability. She is not like any dog I have ever owned. She is so loving too! She is so trainable, communicative, inquisitive, friendly, social. I could go on forever. Her strength is the one concern I have always had. I have struggled with the same fears you have had. It is all so worth it though. Yes. People are either afraid or inquisitive when they respond to the dogs. It puts us in a position to learn to train. I have always done her training. She is also an incredible tracker.

1st time on this channel. I'm a school bus driver that works with a lady.I've been friends with for about fifteen years. She's always owned this breed. She swears by them and they are so loyal, intelegent, & love thier family. She stayed home with her last dog While it was dying from cancer. I've heard bad stories like any breed, But she changed my mind. And there's always bad owners. Thankfully most owners are good. Ive never seen any bigger size example of the breed than my friends. They were huge

Awesome video .. thank you Kara , we also have a 8 yr old Cane Corso and as a petite woman myself was very nervous however, the commitment to training from the get go and being familiar with the mother and father before making the final decision was very important, our boy has been the most amazing extension to our family.. you are correct with having to be committed and consistent with the training and if you put in the time and the work you could not ask for a better family member. They are an amazing breed and don’t think we would ever have any other breed now 🫶🏼

Having had Rottweilers over decades, i appreciate what you are saying. Protection dogs are essentially huge family dogs. At the time, I've had my children as toddlers play, walk and care for them. They are essentially big bears, especially with women and children. As with all dogs, its simply giving them lots of love, time and good leadership 👍

But having a partner sure does help and love how the both of you guys takes care of them. I know they’re protectors and respect that and a big reason why they’re my favorite dogs. Besides, both dogs know they are well loved and cared for. 👍🏽👍🏽

Our Newfie is getting older so we just got a Cane Corso puppy(all male dogs). The Cane Corso & Rottie have become great friends & I am the leader & also a petite gal. I'm no trainer, and I've never had this breed, but I've always been very good with dogs. I LOVE dogs. When I train obedience, I never, ever strike them. I do not believe in that at all. If I have to correct them, or establish dominance, it's verbal tone only, coupled with hundreds of times more positive reinforcement, than negative.
I've had wonderful success with this approach. I just want to play, and have fun, and love on my dog's. To see joy on their faces and in their bodies brings me immense peace and happiness.
Love and trust is everything with me and my dogs.

I currently have a 5 year old Pitty, 3 Toy Poodles, a Mini Goldendoodle and added a 8 month old Cane Corso to our family back in May. What made me love the Corso breed was began Dog sitting my friend's Corso, Nala, 4 years ago. Nala became part of our family as well. She has gotten along with all my dogs, oh, and cats too. Seeing how we were successful with her, God blessed us with our very own, Spirit.

Reflecting on when we welcomed our first Cane Corso into the family, the breeder highlighted how sensitive the breed can be, almost human-like in their capacity to feel. BW's reaction is a perfect example of that sensitivity!
