Just to clarify these figures are all pre-tax / national insurance / student loan / expenses. At the end I made a slight mistake and said this was my take home but I didn't mean that! Hope you enjoyed this video - let me know in the comments what other money videos you would like to see!
Yes I'm really lucky with that salary! I did F1 and F2, which were salaried jobs on a training programme and straight after that I dropped out of training and started locumming. I am still employed by the NHS but just in a different capacity. I am a bit like a supply teacher of the doctor world, if that makes sense!
Does that mean you remain at that level of dr, (F3?) until you resume salaried work with the NHS? Sorry I’m a bit naive about how it works, apart from being a consultant are there levels above where you are now? I find it super interesting, it’s such an wide and varied field of work. :)
You know this has made me realize how important it is to have different streams of income. I always thought if they’re much less than my main source it’s not really worth the trouble but looking at your numbers, even if they’re lower than than my main source, they all add up and make it worth it. And there’s always potential to grow even further. I am not even kidding, there is this opportunity that I’ve been kind of feeling lazy taking and always delaying it but this has inspired me to just do it or I will regret it later. Having only one source can be unstable, which was kind of demonstrated here by you catching COVID for example. And what if I ever want to quit for example and apply somewhere else? I wouldn’t worry so much if I had other streams I can live off of. Gives you some financial freedom for sure. Sorry for rambling on for so long. Thank you for making this.
Yes that's exactly right! I like the security of knowing that if something happened that meant that one of my income streams stopped, I would be able to make it up with the others. Savings are also an important safety net for that too. I'm glad this video inspired you! Good luck with your project :)
Aww Cara thank you so much! I still pinch myself to be honest! You were there through it all and I'm so grateful to have you as a friend, even in the days of living on nothing:) xxxx
I really enjoyed this video!! I also watched Ali's video and was honestly so inspired. The take home message from his (and your video) for me is to try and not mainstream income from just 1 job. I think it's much better if you don't start becoming dependant on 1 income source and even though I'm still doing biomed and am wanting to pursue med after that's something that'll I'll always try keep in mind! :) I would love to know more about locuming as a doctor. The pay itself seems really good and crazy to think it can go to £75/hr!! Would you ever consider going back continue progression ladder up to a consultant or is locuming something you'll probably continue doing for another couple years?
I totally agree! It's very satisfying to make money from different sources. I really enjoyed Ali's video too and think he does an amazing job at all of his projects. I love working as a doctor, but I really didn't enjoy being on a rota, so I can't see myself going back into training any time soon but never say never. I am much happier now that I'm living more on my own terms.
@@SarahNicholls 👏👏 I completely agree and always believe that you should never compromise happiness for work Also I was wondering when you locum are there different bands of pay depending on your progression? So would a locuming SHO be paid differently to a locuming consultant or is it standardised?
@@dev7822 There are different levels of pay depending on experience - so yes, a registrar or consultant would be paid more. Also there is a lot of variation between regions and hospital departments depending on the need for extra staff.
A bit lower than I would think. I just started watching your videos and they are so inspiring. I also thought you were a coach and didn't hear much about that income. Either way, I enjoyed this video. You have a lot of gifts and I am excited to learn more from you.
Hi sarah, im a doctor working in Malaysia. Just want to drop by to say this. Im a fan of your videos. Love the way you make the video interesting. Have a nice day 😉
Wow, my husband wanted me to work as a doctor there. We were able to spend 6 weeks in the UK and discovered a lot. Nice video, and you are right, talking about money has been uncomfortable for a lot but I personally do not mind.☺️
your videos are awesome so keep them coming, slowly but surely your RUclips channel will pick up steam and might become more reliable source of income. good luck
I loved this video. I have also watched ali's video and I loved that too these videos inspire me to aim higher and realize that we need more than one stream of income and it is doable. So thank you sharing💛🌻💛
You inspire me so much, your such a hard worker! Loved this video, it’s made me realise how small business can earn quite a lot if you put the hard work in! ♥️
I love your videos! I have a question, do you think you can become a doctor if you get squeamish when having blood taken/taking blood? I'm currently doing an MSc and thinking about medical school in 2022, but I'm scared I'll get through to years 3 and drop out because I think I won't be able to deal with the phlebotomy aspect of it. I would be grateful for any advise
You're really so beautiful Sarah. Your video is amazing and aspiring and You look extraordinary elegant.you know what Sarah, moving to work as a doctor in Australia can have massive effect on income and freedom outside medicine.
How do you think about investments (i.e. vanguard) considering that the capitals gains isn't going to materialise until you sell it? Do you think of it as an income as you did in the video?
Great video thanks for being so open! I’ll be looking forward to content on your Aesthetics business in the post-COVID future as I’m very interested in getting into the field when I graduate medical school!
Love your channel! Have applied this year to medicine as a grad and have an interview next week 😬🤞🏻 Do you plan on doing locum work long term or would you like to train in a specialty? X

Hello how are you?
£5k for a months salary is nice! How long have you been a locum? Had you been employed by the NHS before or did you go straight into locuming?

I personally thought doctors made more then that, with the cost of living 6000 pounds a month is far from Harrods shopping sprees.
Great video Sarah! Just a quick question - do you edit your videos using final cut pro?
Great video thanks for being so open! I’ll be looking forward to content on your Aesthetics business in the post-COVID future as I’m very interested in getting into the field when I graduate medical school!
Love you vids Sarah. I’d like to know typical tuition fee loan deductions.
Do you get paid extra if you are on call, are you ever on call? Can you explain how it all works xx
What is procedure for admission in medical university there??
All applications are via an application system called UCAS if you want to Google it
@@SarahNicholls ok thank you
I love this! Working as a locum is great for flexibility and giving you time to focus on other avenues.
More info about vanguard and investment please
Can you do a video on your vanguard investments?
I would be interested to know, whether you get payments from the CEA's?
What does CEA stand for?
What is your post tax income as a doctor? Nice video.
Keep it up 👍🏻 you are very hard working
your eyes are like alexandra dedario !!
Love your channel! Have applied this year to medicine as a grad and have an interview next week 😬🤞🏻
Do you plan on doing locum work long term or would you like to train in a specialty? X
This may be too late. But don't go. Do something else
Great discussion. Thank you for this view behind the curtain. #SimTribe
Thanks for watching!
woahh
Hey, thats great! Could you share your etsy shop link too?
Hello, yes it f you search in etsy for Nicholls and Nicholls you should find it x
You haven't mentioned the insurance you need to pay for locum work and tax. Would be great to know about final income after these amounts XX
Yes exactly! There are lots of expenses. I'll add an expenses video to the list! Thanks for watching 😊
@@SarahNicholls Thank you! Well done with all your hard work! XX

Dammm you're living the good life
I do feel very lucky! It's taken a very long time to get to this point but I can't deny that it's good!!
