I just found an ice cream container with 25 of these guys. Your videos have inspired me to do up all my old minis in the old style but better than I painted them when I butchered them as a young ratbag
I used to do all my painting on holiday - didn't have anything set up for painting at home, but school holidays were spent up at the grandparents' place on the central coast, and since I needed something to keep me occupied full time for a couple of weeks I'd get to pick a small stash of paints and minis from the hobby shop before we drove up there. Once I got properly into the game during 2nd edition and set up a little desk at home with all my paints and gear I flipped to the complete opposite, couldn't imagine painting without having everything to hand. Your gretchin look great, very characterful, and plenty of variance to avoid the army of clones look - I can easily imagine the repeated monopose just being the result of their runtherd getting bored and teaching them 'present arms' for a laugh. I won't be doing 40 of them, but you've inspired me to dig out one of the old gretchin, and a corresponding ork boy, to have a go at just to see how I do with them nowadays.
The last vacation I went on was in July, when I went to the GW Open Tournament in Tacoma, WA. It was half Blood Bowl tournament and half visiting my wife's sister who lives a couple of hours away. I didn't do any painting, but I bought some stuff at the GW booth at the tourney. I still have most of the WH40K 2ed box set, but I think I traded all the Ork stuff to other people, since I don't have any of them left. Except for the spiffy Deff Dred.
I noticed the Haymarket bus station in Newcastle, 🧐i could tell you some stories of that place, stories that would melt your face & de-marrow your bones! From your vantage point i thought you may have set up a snipers nest, having a clean line of sight onto the street. You could of created a great kill zone if you were so inclined brother Matthew.🤔 A very nice painting holiday too brother. Also brother i have searched both RUclips and my mind for many weeks now and i still can't for the life of me remember where i saw that Land Speeder though;🤔 Maybe it is like Edgar Allan Poe once coined in the Raven "Is all that we see or seem but a dream within a dream?"
@@Miniscape-wh40kThanks brother Matthew. My only real dream though is to become completely dreamless! I wont try to explain, as it would take forever brother, but on that note thanks for another great episode and goodnight Matthew.😁👍
The conversation was rather frigid whilst on holiday at butlins a few years ago when I took all the paints, tools and brushes to paint a squad of catachans with the wife and daughter also went downhill after purchasing a german helmet.
I did try to take some models with me on holiday as a kid, but never managed to get anything done with them. My entry into miniatures - HeroQuest - did travel around with me. Also, I hear that late-80s airport metal scanners didn't pick up somewhat rusty craft knife blades hidden under the inner soles of the trainers of young boys. As an adult, I have also had holiday hobby success with Gretchin. One Christmas, visiting my in-laws, my wife gave me a gift of Gretchin - the current sculpts - and I spent some happy hours of that holiday with them.
Went on a holiday with some mates years ago, brought along a board game to crack open and play(it went untouched over the week) and a mordheim warband and some paints. Got a few figures done between the beach time and gallivanting about the lakeside. Good times, but kinda wasted effort bringing it all along. Likely won't do so again in future.
I remember about 30 years ago going on holiday to Bournemouth. I insisted on visiting the local GW, much to my younger brother's chagrin. Found a metal gretchen, (although the base tab said goblin), with a blunderbuss my local store never had. Had no paints with me, but unpackaged him at the hotel, imagining the wonderful paint job i would do. Unfortunately i ended up getting glandular fever, so holiday was cut short. Was several weeks until i felt well enough to paint him in all his Blood Axe glory!😂 Hope your holiday went better. Great to see how a few paint scheme changes can make such a difference to what could be a very uniform army. Hope the mrs' had a good time too.👍
@@Miniscape-wh40k yep, still have him up in the attic. Holding the line on a big battle scene I never quite finished. Ah, the dreams of youth.😂 Glad you both enjoyed yourselves. Shame about the weather, but the break, sites and company are the real joy. 👍
Subbed to your Instagram. I have a bunch to gretchin to paint up too. I'm impressed how much character and individuality you managed to give those identical grots.
Lovely stuff. Good work on getting them done while away. Ive never tried hobbying while away tbh, I think i would miss my desk light and station in general.
oh i remember now, once a time i took a Arfix Rescue Launch with me in holiday, but glued outside on a table that had spaces between the woodsticks, so some pieces of that boat, some small may even lay there since then =) could not find them, seaching took more time than gluing =))
in a pinch you can put models in a plastic bag and put in a lot of hand sanitizer and leave it sit for a couple hours and it gets the majority of paint off and isnt to smelly
Aw thanks. Currently I reckon I am mediocre at best but there's so many other who do it all better than me. But I am just a guy in his attic with my substandard phone camera.
Lovely paint job on these Grotz; but it must have been a chore driving to the coast, with twenty-odd Gretchin chanting "Are we almost there yet?!" the whole way there.
I remember doing this as a kid in Spain. An empty ice cream tub for transport and got a 10 man Blood Angel tactical squad done between dips in the pool. Good times!
