    • @Metali-tin
      @Metali-tin 9 месяцев назад

      @@greenockbhoy lol There are definitely City themed pubs the world over but that's a worse way to measure it than social media counts(both City and Liverpool have over 131 million followers across the four main social media platforms of Insta, FB, X, TikTok btw) because it generally only tells you who the owner supports. He'd have very few customers if it was exclusive, you can't have thought this out. Every argument these anti-city nonsense posts throw up is superficial, in the sense that they offer flimsy measures to gauge fan counts. Such as: First hand visual accounts of counting shirts on holidays, number of supporters clubs globally(half could be empty, it doesn't tell us much at all), now themed pubs... My word, talk about scraping the barrel lol. I can tell you this, many blues have counted more City shirts than United Liverpool shirts in recent years while on their jollies... but they don't get carried away because there's probably cognitive bias at play here because obviously there are more United and Liverpool fans still. Just something for you to think about. Or just carry on deluding yourself with these flimsy measure while ignoring all the accepted ones such as broadcast viewing numbers, shirt sales, social media accounts, number of unique visitors to the stadium per season perhaps?(haven't even looked but I'm guessing City would trounce Celtic). More recent figures for you from the M.E.N 99% of the City fanbase now resides outside of the UK, citizens membership subscriptions went up 108% last year on the year before....City have been the fastest growing club in world football for over a decade... But Celtic are still bigger... When Scottish football itself isn't relevant globally(harsh but true), how can you begin to believe that?

    Am a Celtic fan , we’re the only club in world football to sweep everything in 67 , we done a quadruple , we also scooped the British sports personality award in that year , this achievement will never ever be repeated, it’s now recognised by UEFA as the greatest achievement in club football, and Celtic stand alone in this exclusive club all on there own , our trophy haul is incredible, we’ve racked up 9 league championship in a row twice , 8 trebles , Celtic are one of only five clubs in the world to have won over 100 trophies.[3] The club has won the Scottish league championship 53 times, most recently in 2022-23, the Scottish Cup 41 times and the Scottish League Cup 21 times. The club's greatest season was 1966-67, when Celtic became the first British team to win the European Cup, also winning the Scottish league championship, the Scottish Cup, the League Cup and the Glasgow Cup. Celtic also reached the 1970 European Cup Final and the 2003 UEFA Cup Final, losing in both.
    Celtic have a long-standing fierce rivalry with Rangers and, together, the clubs are known as the Old Firm. Their matches against each other are regarded as among the world's biggest football derbies. The club's fanbase was estimated in 2003 as being around 9 million worldwide and there are more than 160 Celtic supporters clubs in over 20 countries. An estimated 80,000 fans travelled to Seville for the 2003 UEFA Cup Final, and their "extraordinarily loyal and sporting behaviour" in spite of defeat earned the club Fair Play awards from FIFA and UEFA, respectively., so the question is ‘ yes we’re a bigger club than Man City ,

    City’s success is fleeting. They won’t always have the financial muscle they do now, one day whether it’s 10 years or even 100, the financial backing won’t last forever. Look at Chelsea just now. No one thought their dominance would evaporate the way it has in recent years. A big club is defined by more than just present success, there’s more to it than that, you need to look at the bigger picture. Yes, Celtic don’t play in a great league but their fanbase and following is undeniable and placed within a superior structure, they would eventually compete with the elite because of that.

      As much as you would probably hate to admit it but you need to add Arsenal in there, the three big traditional prem clubs are Man U, Liverpool and Arsenal. Arsenal have loads of fans in the South, certain demographics all over and if we're talking overseas fans, they have over half of Africa. Then quite a way you got the next bank which includes yourselfs towards the top, maybe Newcastle, Everton and Villa fading out, Leeds gone, Man City and Chelsea returning. I think the two mentioned would fall just below the top three, just above the 2nd group.
      We had a bad 100 years start of small restricted ground and shite team, but the Hammers are slowly coming round to the 2nd group, just need to have a decade of success behind us and we'll be laughing (we can dream).

    You can very easily define which clubs are bigger than other. You have to actually put some time and anlytics and data behind but it can be done. You use a weighted matrix with a range of categories and scoring against each, define which are the most important and least important factors, use some common sense to set a baseline and then you can make tweaks but you'll actually have a tool that works. Me and some friends did this years back rather than being bored at work, I've made a start at recreating it but it takes time and I have a day job. If someone who actually works in football wanted to do this it is very doable but sports journalist would rather debate over nothing than actual do the work.
    Using a single definition to define what is a big club or which is bigger than another makes no sense as shown here. If Man City win 20 Champions Leagues, make more money than any other club in the world, any other kind of metric but if you go to South Africa and don't see random people wearing a Man City shirt makes them a small club? No substance behind that. History, recent history, trophys, potential, revenue, tv viewers, season ticket holders, stadium capacity, cultural impact, general audience recognition, etc etc. ALL of these things and more determine what makes the club a certain size, it never boils down to 1 or 2 things.

    This big club argument is all about hating and envy. Fans of these so-called big clubs know their team can’t compete with city on the field so their only argument is that they’re “bigger club”. City has turned the so-called toughest league in the world to a farmer’s league. On the verge of winning 4 league titles in a row and will be favorite next season again.

      @@paulmooney-nl1zt that's not really true though, is it? Not an actual measurable fact. What city have done in the last decade alone ensures they'll have more new followers and fans for years to come. This is how big clubs became big clubs in the first place. And with Celtic and Scottish football being practically irrelevant nowadays, I don't see how they could possibly argue about this. Can you call yourself a big club when you don't win a CL game in 6 years? Celtic are irrelevant as far as I'm concerned, how could they possibly be considered a bigger club than a team that just won the treble? Historically, there's an argument sure. But the last decade is what matters, and city have grown exponentially and are arguably the best club side in the world right now. There won't be a drop off like Celtic had either. Celtic are just a better supported Sunderland lol.

      @@Glen-z7j no you won't. You're acting like this is truly the case but it really isn't. What we see is almost entirely a mix of the top prem sides and teams like Madrid, Barca, psg, Milan, etc. Celtic would probably be far down on that list, not that there is actually a list to measure by.

    I think theres a difference between a big club and a current successful club, a big club has heritage, history, an array of legendary players and a global reach, City’s success is too recent for them to be considered up there with Man utd, Liverpool, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich. But like Andy said it doesn’t really matter because the here and now is whats important to fans, and right now city might not be the biggest but they are the best.

      So when City were winning trophies in the 60s and 70s, had full internationals in the side, were playing in front of the 3rd biggest crowds in the country, does that not count as history or “heritage”?
      What about when City set the attendance record for a game in England outside of Wembley? Still stands at 84,500?
