I cut a slot in the end of the studs using a mini hacksaw so I can insert a slot head screwdriver and easily turn the stud or hold it while turning the nut! It is convenient once done.
I’m sorry, I didn’t see this until now. Have you had any success? I’m not sure if there’s a way to get a curved set of locking pliers on it? It’s not an easy task!
I just had this issue. In the process learned that I think the studs in my buggy are not the correct ones. They're 6x1 thread but 30mm long. All the ones on jbugs are 23mm or 35mm. Can someone tell me what they are SUPPOSED to be
New P & C's New Heads....you did not split the case and check everything else while your there? At that time you could have easily made that repair. Just saying when youre that far, no reason not to go all the way.... good job in what you did.
This was just an inexpensive freshening up of this buggy motor while I put together something a lot better. If I split the case it would have quadrupled my time and I did the whole job over a weekend, so I didn't really have that time.
It’s possible that after a very long time it could eventually deteriorate the nylon washer, but I think it would take a while. A person could attempt to red loctite a nut on instead, but I doubt it would work because of oil contamination.
@@MaineMachinist many said that 60 in-lb is the best, i use a nut screw driver and still getting leaks. I was thinking to get a torque wrench but wonder if after fixing up the stud like you did make them more fragile
@@Tom_Secret are you using fresh gaskets? That’s very important. Do not add silicone. You could, however, lightly paint your gaskets with Permatex Aviation Sealer. That’s what we recommend on the engine case halves, pushrod tube seals and other areas.
Perhaps put a little bit of rubber or wrap something around those pliers before sticking them into the case. Probably doesn't matter all too much if you're careful but good insurance against shavings.
That sump plate was leaking so bad because the studs are not in far enough. That is why the blind nuts are stuck on the stud, which won't let you get the right pressure onto the sump plate.
I've just had this exact problem when changing the oil on my bus - found a 10mm nut and wondered where it came from! Great video very helpful thanks.
I think it’s getting more common as time goes on and these cases get older. Glad I could help!

That’s a really cool idea. Thanks for sharing it.
Haven't had this problem yet, but awesome video to show how to fix it!!!! Thanks!!!!
Thank you for watching!
Great vid mate, well done
Thank you, I appreciate it!
Hey boss I’m trying to remove that same stud my stud is rounded and tips or tricks to get this sucker out? I’m getting scared and desperate

The plastic insert in the lock washer won't deteriorate over time will it?

@@MaineMachinist ... thanks, I'm going to try to do this, I figure ihe plastic won't fall apart until after I'm dead and buried!

What torque spec did you torque them when you put it back in?
I don’t torque these other than by hand

Certainly couldn’t hurt to take extra precautions!
can you dubble nut the studs and screew then out
Yes you can on most of them, but this particular one has a nut inside the case so you can’t do it on this one

Lifesaver, maybe. Mine isn't even tight on the washer so it isn't as far out of the case as the other studs so I can't get the nut on it.
Are you saying it doesn’t extend up into the case far enough?
If so, double nut it and turn it back up into the case
@@MaineMachinist no, it's screwed too far into the case. I couldn't get it out, not enough threads to grab onto. I'm stuck
@@guymanicone7921 any way you can take a picture of it and send it to my Facebook messenger? Facebook.com/hiltzmachine
Could you not double nut it and screw it out a few turns?
I found a flat washed inside a intake manifold one time
