How AWESOME is it that the CEO of the company puts up a disassembly video. I Love you guys, and Eric, you are just an incredible person. From a kid playing under the product table, to CEO and amazing spokesperson for the company. Love your products, love your philosophy, Spyderco man for life!
Great video, thanks for sharing, and I hope these happen regularly. One request: Maybe dial back the music, it doesn't really do anything but make things harder to hear.
Spyderco .. some of the most amazing well thought out knives on the current market, cant speak highly enough of the products they make. Just bought my second para 3 :-) This gentleman has pride in his work , and that's reflected within the brand, something we as the consumer really appreciate. Cheers.
Thank you for the detailed and informative breakdown. The Para 3 lightweight is a very refined design and feels great in the hand. Can't wait to get one of my own and put it to work.
I was lucky enough to meet this young man on a trip I made to the Spyderco factory on a motorcycle journey from Louisiana. He took time out from his busy day to come visit. He’ a knife nut like most of us Spyderholics and was a very nice man and very friendly. He knows his knives. It made me an even bigger Spyderholic after his visit and the limited tour the CFO gave me. Excellent company and great employees. Most important they make the best folders and use supersteels and have extremely sharp factory edges. Great job Spyderco!!!!!
Eric thanks for taking the time to do this video. For common EDC users your explanation on construction and design decisions is "eye opening", it shows the value that goes into your products. I live on a budget like many, and given the amount of less expensive options in the pocket knife market today I'm currently not a Spyderco carrier. However after watching this clip I'll very much consider Spyderco products in my next purchase.
I am very impressed with the spyderco para3 lightweight. Amazing action for the price. I have the PM2 and this knife snaps open with the same smooth action. Even though I have a big hand, this knife fits nicely in the palm. Very sharp out of the box. This video is a great presentation of the ins and outs of this knife. Great engineering to get a knife to perform like this! Congrats to Spyderco for a fantastic job!
Thank you Eric. I have been a spyderco fan since the first pilot model was made a long time ago. I just bought the respect Bowie and I can't wait till it gets here! Bless you and your father for making awesome knive Said!
I've had a chance to carry mine for a week now. For this size of a knife, in this lightweight category. This knife, is absolute perfection. Very well done, Spyderco!
Hearing Eric Glesser talk specifics about the design and execution of a Spyderco knife led almost directly to me getting a PM2. It comes through very clearly he has a personal investment in making a product that continues to earn Spyderco's reputation. They make a product their customers love. I went from distantly observing the Spyderco hype to researching it, eventually going to handle one at my local surplus store, and now proudly owning one. Another customer who loves the product has boarded the Hype Train. My Paramilitary 2 certainly lives up to it.
Just re watched this video. I’ve been carrying Spyderco’s since the 90’s and I have to say this knife is one of my favourite Spydies. Such a wonderful company too :).
Just finally broke down and got a para 3 blacked out g10 version. A lot of people cry and complain about the lanyard tube and the pocket clip not being deep carry. I absolutely love everything about the knife. I hate deep carry lol. But it truly is a pocket gem. Great job designing a smaller knife. I am a big guy and I own a para 2 also but I prefer the para 3. It just melts in my hand. It’s hard to beat the Manix and para line up for good user knives. I love my Manix lightweight. It amazes me how you guys make a knife so light and strong. My lightweight Manix has been my edc for a few years and it is still rock solid. I will definitely have to pick up a lightweight para 3 in the future. Thanks for the video and quality products!
The decision to make a video like this is a good decision. Getting ahead of the curve and demonstrating the correct way to do it is the proactive approach, and I support that. Thank you.
Just ordered this knife from Blade HQ. Think it's awesome that Spyderco made a breakdown video of this knife. I hope they continue to that with new releases and with their popular models.
I want it! BladeHQ where's my pre-order!? Ben better not have "borrowed" it! It's not even blue! LOL! Great video Eric! Can't wait to take my own apart and put it to some use!
I'm of the school of thought that a simple design done well is one of the best ways to construct a knife. I like that you guys are open to disassembly now. To me it seems like those who would take their knife apart will do it whether it voids the warranty or not because they are confident they can put it back together in a way that no one will notice. Those who aren't comfortable taking apart their knife won't care if it doesn't bother their warranty because they're not comfortable with the idea of pulling apart their precious tool. I would love to see Spyderco include a schematic like Chris Reeve does. It's a nice touch and can be a little more useful when you are uncertain in the middle of disassembly over a video. I've got my first Spyderco on the way. Para3 lw in 20cv. Looking for a new commonly available production knife company to recommend to my friends who don't want to spend $500 on a knife. That's been Benchmade due to their warranty for so long but seems like things are not going well there.
This was awesome! Thank you Eric, and I hope to see similar videos from you for new products in the future. Given the companies recent change in stance towards disassembling your products, this was very cool to see and I’m sure a lot of fans of the company will feel the same way. Also love that loctite tip/trick, I’ve always applied directly to the screw, but am definitely going to try that method. Oh and p.s. I love the knife! Just got mine and I’m very happy with it.
'Very nicely detailed video (including time stamps). It is only upon reading the comments, now, that I learn the technician is actually the CEO of the company - very impressive to see he is not simply a businessman, but intimately familiar with the design and functioning of each component of this product. My Para 3 Lightweight is expected to arrive tomorrow.
Got my Para 3 lightweight in today. It’s the first Golden Spyderco I’ve owned. Man- it’s nice. Definitely my new EDC (taking over from my HAP40 Delica)
I have both Para 3 models and I dare say I prefer the lightweight which I wasn’t expecting. For a FRN handle it feels pretty solid and it’s super pocketable. Easy to forget it’s there until you need to open a package or cut the straps on a pallet. Great tool and I love having it with me.
I really appreciate Eric taking the time to walk through the disassembly process. I would LOVE to see Spyderco offer after market scales for their knives, especially the FRN and G10 scales in a variety of toned down and brighter colors. I respectfully believe they’re missing a significant business opportunity in that department.
To this date, my PM2 still remains one of my favorite knives to grab and use when I need to cut open a box or packaging. I have exacto knives, SAKs, and all types of sharp stuff, but the PM2 just feels right. I have no doubt the Para 3 will be just as good.
Yep... SPY27 Word around the camp fire is that it holds an edge and strops back excellent. Got to handle the Para 3 Lightweight at blade show and liked it a lot. I needed to see if the build quality was solid prior to purchase.... For the money this is an excellent pick. Thanks for the video.
Nice video. I'm glad to see that even the design geniuses at Spyderco get a little mixed up during assemblies like the rest of us humans. This one will be in my collection soon.
Fan of Spyderco here. I own a PM-2 with Blurple G-10 scales (love it), a Chaparrel Lightweight (love it), and recently wanted to add the Para 3 Lightweight. I originally wanted the SPY27 edition, but it still is not available and it's already October. So instead I opted for the black blade version which I thought looked pretty cool. The action was stiff coming out of the box and I could not adjust the knife to get smooth blade deployment without creating unacceptable blade play and throwing the blade centering off. I opted to return the Para 3 knife and instead ordered the Sage 5 LW which looks very impressive and is just a little higher priced. I love your innovative designs and just wanted to pass on my experience.
The Spyderco website lists the blade length a 2.92" which is important for people that live in cities that require under 3". Some videos list it as 3" which is confusing

Thanks for the breakdown of your new Para 3 LW Eric. Looking forward to the release. I'm sure it will be a regular in my EDC rotation. Have a great day Sir.😉👌

Pre-ordered from Blade HQ because I can't "steal" one. Just kidding 😁 but I would...just saying.

Because they're particularly proud of this one it won a best new innovative American knife in 2019

Finally got to pick one up, I've been eyeing this knife for so long! Went with the SPY27 with the cobalt blue scales. So happy with it!
Great product dissasembly vid. Any otion for a left handed PM3 ultralight?
Just ordered two PM3 LWs. Blacked out with CTS-BD1N and CPM-SPY27
Thank you for showing the paper-clip trick with the loktite.
I know this is sappy or whatever but still, Sal must be so proud of his son. Keep up the good work guys!
Just ordered mine, can't wait.
