"Then the dust will return to the earth as it was, And the spirit will return to God who gave it". Ecclesiastes 12:7 NKJV. The dead know nothing and cannot praise GOD nor there is any remembrance of them. But their spirits are reserved for judgement that return to GOD. The spirits of the human beings not only involve the breath (ruah) but the mind and the entire record of their thoughts and feelings (character) that has recorded in heaven since they were born. Remember when stephen was stoned and before he died he said "Lord JESUS received my spirit". In the coming end of this world (2018) there is no second chance. When the probation will close, the plagues will fall and the destiny of every human being is already final.
There are two kinds of the dead: The dead in Christ who are sleeping and waiting for Jesus to wake them up to be with Him forever. And the Dead who are in the outer darkness suffering an eternity-like torment, who by the appointed time will be resurrected to face the White Throne Judgement, some will be destroyed both body and soul in the Lake of Fire, and some saved based on their records on the books and on the Mercy Seat of Christ.

I'm blessed by this message. Now I understand that one needs not to interpret from one verse based on his understanding but need to interprete using verses that goes into context with the actual meaning of what the verse mean. There are a whole of fake interpretation and if you don't take care you will be following false doctrines and won't be able to gain salvation.

Interesting, though Pastor Bohr did not say what these spirits in prison had to do with the time of Noah and the flood, and why this particular time period was mentioned. I still prefer the alternate interpretation that Christ preached through Noah by His Spirit unto the antideluvians while they were alive, giving them the opportunity then to repent.
I agree with you on this one--it's odd why such a great Bible teacher as Pastor Bohr seems to have missed this! (new edit below). I have changed my opinion since I wrote the first part. After viewing this (studying) about 3 more times--I am convinced he is on the mark.He's (Peter) is mentioning Noah as an aside or in support of these texts. They are really saying just what this pastor is teaching. This is a perfect example why I or anyone should not be too quick to jump to false conclusions!

However Hades is still around today, because in Revelation 20:14 it says that there are still souls there at the end of time. Do souls still go to Hades today?
Hi Raj. That's a good question. Hades is the place of the dead. Its Hebrew name is Sheol. Purgatory is described as the place of the dead following Jesus' resurrection. Hence we can conclude that the Hades of the New Testament is actually Purgatory. It is a place of transition for souls who will later go on to heaven. This is what in fact happens in Revelation 20:14 when the souls who were there are judged and those who are worthy are taken into heaven.
Hades refer to "the grave" - Keep in mind, to understand the state of the dead, we also need to understand the creation of man. the biblical accounts that DUST+BREATH OF LIFE= LIVING SOUL (Genesis 2:7). this seems to indicate that a living soul is the physical being of man. Also if you read Acts 1:9-11 - It describes the state of Jesus when He ascended into Heaven (remember the story of doubting Thomas) - He was a physical being. Like with many biblical subjects, The question is who were the spirits.... its not written, yet many have made their opinion clear like its 100% biblical of who it was in the prison. Pastor Bohr is a great student of the Bible but for some reason he goes off the deep end on this topic and his Jonah sermon. The traditional SDA view is correct.
I agree, see the SDA Commentary! However, I took another hard look and Pastor Bohr is in general agreement with our commentary but adds the caveat of Satan being finally cast out of heaven, which he was at the cross. I really see no problem at all here.

Well, the phrase Second Death comes straight out of Revelation. It's not strictly an Adventist doctrine, it's just that Adventists seem to be one of the few if not, the only group of believers that notice it.

Reading the King James version, Genesis 2:7 says - God formed man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life and he "became" a living soul. So, you don't have a soul, you are classified or considered to be a living soul. That's why in 2nd Peter 3:20 it says 8 souls were saved in the Ark with Noah, 8 souls simply means 8 people. In Acts 17:37, 276 souls were saved from drowning with Paul, but that means 276 people. Also, if you read Psalm 104: 29 it says - thou takest away their breath , they die, and return to the dust. So, this is all man is...breath and dust. From this text with Genesis 2:7 you see that man at birth and death has the same composition, no mention of a soul or spirit. The doctrine of a a soul came from Plato and was carried into the Christian church by Roman Catholicism. Genesis 3: 19 repeats the same idea...God told Adam & Eve they would return to dust if they sinned, and verse 3 of chapter 3 says they would die. The word soul or spirit is used in scripture to refer to man's intellect, his mind, emotions, impulses, passions, nature. But not a spiritual entity that is separate from his body and breath / or life force within. This may also surprise you but there is no place as a pit that God burns people in forever which we call hell. There is a fire that comes down from God and destroys the sinner as in annihilation, the sinner is consumed by the fire and is no more. What is eternal is the consequences of the fire but not the fire itself. God is love, love requires justice but not torture. This is another doctrine supported by the Catholic church like Limbo and Purgatory. Read Ezekiel 28: 18-19 in the KJV and it says Satan will be consumed by fire and be no more. Malachi 4:1-3 says he and the wicked will be ashes under your feet. Psalm 37: 10 & 20 says they will consume into smoke and vanish away. As for the book of Enoch, if God wanted other books in the bible He would have placed them there but we have what God designed to be our bible. When you say after you die you will be judged, does it automstically mean you are not saved? What is judgement? When you judge, do you judge only who should win? Or who should lose? We gave a negative connotation to the word judgement because of our hardcore view that only genuine christians eill be saved. This is thinking highly of ourselves, and denying the sovereign right of God to administer grace, mercy, and justice at the White Throne Judgement through Christ. Whatever happened to the Mercy Seat of Christ in the Ark of the Covenant? God will fulfiill His Covenant to His grace-chosen and mercy-chosen people. Rev. 20 does not clearly state that all the dead were thrown in the Lake of Fire. The Sheep and the Goat Jusgement is the WTJ. It is so simple if you would study the greek words you would know. The spirits in prison are fallen angels locked away in tartarus. These spirits are the ones who took wives in Genesis 6. Jesus didnt preach the gospel to them he made a proclamation of his victory on the cross. The greek word for preached is kerusso which means to make a proclamation.

Explain to me the outer darkness where there is weeping and gnashing of teeth. Is this a holding place for the conscious dead? A place of torment, some kind of a hellish place? Prior to their resurrection to face the White Throne Judgement? Is the Ark of the Covenant present at th WTJ? Will the Mercy Seat of Christ be in effect in the WTJ? Does it said in Rev. 20 that all the dead that were raised were all thrown in the Lake of Fire? You have to suffer first the weeping and gnashing of teeth at the eternity-like outer darkness, before you can plead for mercy to Christ at the white throne judgement which is a 50/50 chance based on your records on the books that will be opened. Not exactly. The 2nd death, permanent death, is what Jesus died for us to remove. Much of the Scripture vss on death speak of this. The first death is more significant in regards to the first ressurection.

Rose R... Just want to examine your line of reasoning. I take it that you believe that people really don't die when they die and that if they lived in Jesus they go straight to heaven at the point of death. This reasoning would line up with the majority view of the state of the dead. I question the purpose and application of your understanding of the dead coming out of their graves 40 days after Jesus rose. They are supposed to be in heaven already as most claim. There are two kinds of the dead:

Now I understand that one needs not to interpret from one verse based on his understanding but need to interprete using verses that goes into context with the actual meaning of what the verse mean. There are a whole of fake interpretation and if you don't take care you will be following false doctrines and won't be able to gain salvation.

Interesting, though Pastor Bohr did not say what these spirits in prison had to do with the time of Noah and the flood, and why this particular time period was mentioned. I still prefer the alternate interpretation that Christ preached through Noah by His Spirit unto the antideluvians while they were alive, giving them the opportunity then to repent.

I have changed my opinion since I wrote the first part. After viewing this (studying) about 3 more times--I am convinced he is on the mark.He's (Peter) is mentioning Noah as an aside or in support of these texts. They are really saying just what this pastor is teaching. This is a perfect example why I or anyone should not be too quick to jump to false conclusions!

However Hades is still around today, because in Revelation 20:14 it says that there are still souls there at the end of time. Do souls still go to Hades today?

Hi Raj. That's a good question. Hades is the place of the dead. Its Hebrew name is Sheol. Purgatory is described as the place of the dead following Jesus' resurrection. Hence we can conclude that the Hades of the New Testament is actually Purgatory. It is a place of transition for souls who will later go on to heaven. This is what in fact happens in Revelation 20:14 when the souls who were there are judged and those who are worthy are taken into heaven.
Hades refer to "the grave" - Keep in mind, to understand the state of the dead, we also need to understand the creation of man. the biblical accounts that DUST+BREATH OF LIFE= LIVING SOUL (Genesis 2:7). this seems to indicate that a living soul is the physical being of man. Also if you read Acts 1:9-11 - It describes the state of Jesus when He ascended into Heaven (remember the story of doubting Thomas) - He was a physical being. Pastor Bohr is a great student of the Bible but for some reason he goes off the deep end on this topic and his Jonah sermon. The traditional SDA view is correct.
I agree, see the SDA Commentary! However, I took another hard look and Pastor Bohr is in general agreement with our commentary but adds the caveat of Satan being finally cast out of heaven, which he was at the cross. I really see no problem at all here.

Genesis 3: 19 repeats the same idea...God told Adam & Eve they would return to dust if they sinned, and verse 3 of chapter 3 says they would die. The word soul or spirit is used in scripture to refer to man's intellect, his mind, emotions, impulses, passions, nature. But not a spiritual entity that is separate from his body and breath / or life force within. This may also surprise you but there is no place as a pit that God burns people in forever which we call hell. There is a fire that comes down from God and destroys the sinner as in annihilation, the sinner is consumed by the fire and is no more. What is eternal is the consequences of the fire but not the fire itself. God is love, love requires justice but not torture. This is another doctrine supported by the Catholic church like Limbo and Purgatory. Read Ezekiel 28: 18-19 in the KJV and it says Satan will be consumed by fire and be no more. Malachi 4:1-3 says he and the wicked will be ashes under your feet. Psalm 37: 10 & 20 says they will consume into smoke and vanish away. As for the book of Enoch, if God wanted other books in the bible He would have placed them there but we have what God designed to be our bible. It is so simple if you would study the greek words you would know. The spirits in prison are fallen angels locked away in tartarus. These spirits are the ones who took wives in Genesis 6. Jesus didnt preach the gospel to them he made a proclamation of his victory on the cross. The greek word for preached is kerusso which means to make a proclamation.

Rose R... Just want to examine your line of reasoning. I take it that you believe that people really don't die when they die and that if they lived in Jesus they go straight to heaven at the point of death. This reasoning would line up with the majority view of the state of the dead. I question the purpose and application of your understanding of the dead coming out of their graves 40 days after Jesus rose. They are supposed to be in heaven already as most claim. Please clear this up. People have to be dead dead in order to be resurrected, otherwise what was the purpose of their death? Death is the cessation of life!
The problems lies in the lack of understanding respectively, the nature and reality of the Father, the Son, the Holy spirit and man as revealed in the scriptures..for starters..the Infinite Time is composed of 3 components: the past , the present and the future..humans and our dead bones can only exist in the present..the same with Jesus as a man, as the Son of God as a God can only exist in the present..Jesus is the God whose nature of reality is the Eternal present..entirely different from the other 2 Godheads..Humans can only exist in the Eternal Present..Jesus is telling the truth..with out me..humans cannot exist, and humans can not go to the Father...because The Father is the beginning and end of all matter and energy but not the Eternal Present of created beings!

It is evident that the writer of Ecclesiastes Solomon did not have a complete revelation on life after death that is clear as light
just like OT saint prophets men of God did not understand the fullness of the gospel of Jesus Christ. So to keep using Solomon's shallow revelation on what does happen to a person after death is poor teaching.The NT brings us into the light of the complete revelation of what happens to a person after death. You sir do not read the whole passage because it also says and they have no reward hey what happen to the reward Jesus Christ will give his saints ? Let us read Revelation 22:12 Behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to render to every man according to what he has done. I really don't see a difference between SDA and Jehovah's witnesses both started about the same time and both follow false prophets one Ellen G White and the other Charles Taze Russell .

So pray tell exactly how Solomon's teaching is "shallow revelation"? It's in the Bible. No more reward? Solomon speaks of the here and now--not when Christ comes or after ward. You did not even post the whole context. Here it is:
Ecc 9:5 For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten.
Ecc 9:6 Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished; neither have they any more a portion for ever in any thing that is done under the sun.
Will the memory of them carry on in heaven? Yes. The dead know nothing because death is represented by Jesus as a sleep, and death is the cessation of life until the resurrection. Also, in vs. 6, forever, does not mean eternity. Scripture explains Scripture. Notice:
Exo_21:6 Then his master shall bring him to the judges; he shall also bring him to the door, or to the door post; and his master shall bore his ear through with an awl; and he shall serve him for ever.
Obviously, that servant is not still serving his master.
They have no more to do with anything "under the sun" that is, the here and now.
Russell, may be a false prophet, but Ellen White is a true prophet--God's end time messenger to take the saints all the way home to heaven. It's easy just to say, he, or she is a false prophet--but if you prove to me that Ellen White is a false prophet, I will thank you and leave my church! BTW, Stephen Bohr, who is doing this teaching, may be the word's best Bible and prophecy teacher--I know of none better.
The two great errors of the papacy and protestant churches, are Sunday sacredness, and false teachings on the state of the dead. Rome teaches the immortality of the human soul--what does the Bible say? 1Ti_6:16 "Who only has immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach to; whom no man has seen, nor can see: to whom be honor and power everlasting. Amen." Only God has immortality. The false teaching of the immortality of the human soul comes from Greek mythology--passed down to Rome, and then on to the protestant churches.
If you are a spirit filled Christian, I challenge you to read one of her books, and first pray sincerely and ask God to show you the truth of the matter--He will. But, if you are not really spirit filled--not a born-again believer, another god may suggest to you she is false. If you read her book (s) with solely the intent of finding false information--I assure you--you will think you've found something false when you have not.

Ocean Blue---KIng Solomon does not speak of the reward of Christ at His coming. Old Testaments prophets were inspired by the Holy Spirit, so for you to say they did not know the truth--you are calling God a liar. Pastor Bohr may be the best preacher teaching truth a on planet earth.
You sir, appear to be in league with Satan by first calling the Holy Spirit a liar--then calling EGW a false prophet when it is impossible for anyone to prove EGW was a false prophet--because she was a true prophet. In doing that, you are attributing the work of God to Satan--a serious position to be in. Unless you are a demon impersonating a human--I strongly advise you to repent of these serious sins if Christ will send you the spirit of repentance. (Acts 5:31).
