    I really don't understand all the hate and low marks for this game. Allot of reviewers talk about the length, it's not like it's a two hour playthough, it's several hours. The gameplay is like "The Last Of Us" + "Uncharted" minus the puzzle solving. The biggest haters are the hard core online players that only buy shooters for the online component. There is nothing wrong with a ninear game, instead of exploring huge areas while you do extra side missions to upgrade your health, weapons etc.. you play through the story.
    The graphics are superb, the sound and music is perfect, the voice acting is on point and the story is awesome. If you are one of the few "Offline, single player, campaign playing, narrative based gamer" then you'll love the game. The only reply value however is the same as when re-watching a film.

    People bashed this game so hard I didn't buy it until it became 9$ and I loved it, I liked the story even if it's a little predictable, I liked the cutscenes because I was going in for a cinematic experience and I got a great one at that. I only didn't like the ending and the beginning chapters were somewhat boring and I couldn't care less. Overall it's a much better game than people make it out to be and this is the fairest review I've seen of this game. Great job man.

      I played Unity on release version for ~16 hours and only once I had to restart the game because of a bug. I also get 5 second freezes, but beside that the game is awesome. People also said Skyrim had a lot of bugs, had a ~200 hours blast with it. Also I saw no gamebreaking bugs in Inquisition/Dying Light/Darkest Dungeon.
      Bugs are a minor annoyance to me as long as the game is interesting to play.

      Personally, I feel we rely too heavily on reviewers. What I mean is, we hail them as THE deciding factor of any purchase. If we subscribe, follow, and watch a reviewer there's going to be that large portion of the audience who will eat up what they say and will SLANDER a game saying the same things as that reviewer on social media. We don't cross reference with other reviewers. We don't investigate the problems ourselves. We don't consider (most of the time) our own tastes either. Some people just didn't like Telltale's Walking Dead because they don't want a story driven, QTE, and choice festival of a game. But gamers will harass them for being "uncultured". This is the exact reason why I simply watch a review and only dissect the parts where my opinion may or may not be affected. Not to mention this is honestly the reason why I can't verbally talk to most gamers. It's honestly sad how people get this upset, harass others, and are blind to what really is a criticism. I'm not even defending this game or any of the other "shoddy" releases over the past few years. In my eyes, if you paid 60 bucks, felt like your money was well spent...GOOD FOR YOU! Honestly, we should be happy for our fellow gamers for ENJOYING a game instead of pissing and moaning about it.

      Very detailed review but I don't think this should be a buy. The game looks amazing but it's so short that you can finish it and be done with it in a day. So why not rent it for 1$ at a red box? This would be a perfect rent. An amazing game but not worth 60$ in any way.

    By far the best review I've seen. The game is not nearly as bad as some people want to say it is. It seems these days that everyone *wants* gaming to fail. It's truly depressing. Why hate a game when it does quite a bit of things right? I mean no game is perfect (well almost none are), so why do people seem to want nothing but perfection? What happened to the days when people loved games even if they fucked up?

      I hear what you're saying and totally agree. I've decided to look to ACG as my main video game review source for when I'm unsure whether I want to buy a game because he focuses on all important aspects of a game, especially significant being the fun factor, and admits positives when they are present. He's one of the few reviewers I relate to in that he doesn't need a game to be perfect in some aspects for him to enjoy it. I appreciated the ACU review since he focused on the majors flaws in the game, but understood there were positives there and he miraculously actually enjoyed the game. The reviews where he takes a second look at games he already reviewed is also a huge plus, since he understands a game can better or worse overtime, especially considering patches.

      +Robert the lonley soul Fine, go ahead, enjoy it. But don't say it's a good game because then you have to hold it up to the quality of other games, at which point it falls hilariously short.

    • @bliglum
      @bliglum 8 лет назад +2

      +Zenith Wills No, Robert's right, and you're just riding the hate train. This game was one of the most criminally underrated games of the year. Everyone I've seen who've actually played it said it was quite enjoyable. Solid gunplay, decent story with great voice acting, no real bugs, phenomenal graphics (of course), and the length is actually right around average at 7-9 hrs depending on completion. But, haters just gotta hate I guess.

    • @MrDrewwills
      @MrDrewwills 8 лет назад +1

      bliglum Yeah but I hate what it emulates. Graphics over gameplay. True I give it props for the graphics, voice acting, story etc. But in terms of an actual game it is horrible. I would deferentially say rent it to be able to witness how good it looks. But if you're gonna buy something you should be able to enjoy it multiple times, and can you honestly say that you could enjoy playing this over and over again? I mean come on the final boss was literally a reskin of a previous boss.

    • @bliglum
      @bliglum 8 лет назад

      Zenith Wills
      Yeah, the boss fights were pretty lame. But I don't think in terms of an actual game it was horrible per say, after all, most agree that the actual gunplay was pretty solid.. I had fun with it, when I rented it XD (Played through when it was full price)
      So yes, I don't think it was worth a buy at full price.. They should have at least put in some sort of campaign+ mode or something. But at just $20, it's pretty good value! That's the cost of a blu ray, which is only 2hrs. Vs. 8 or 9hrs.

    • @MrDrewwills
      @MrDrewwills 8 лет назад

      bliglum Yeah but it's shallow. it's advertised as a game about monster hunters yet it's just another average shooter. And the AI is so badly made. You can have fun with it because that's your own opinion, but you have to admit in terms of actually being a game it's pretty bad.

    When I first saw a trailer for "The Order: 1886" I was so pumped for it and super excited. Now after seeing your review of this game I figure this type of game is not for me actually. The game looks so boring, the A.I. does look like it has no though process to it, and even though the graphics and voice acting looks and sounds amazing. It's just does not seem to have the gameplay or story to get me hooked on it. Thank you man for making this non-biased review and saving a few bucks from my wallet as well. =)

      I actually really liked the story. Much more so than AngryCentaurGaming. I do agree that the AI isn't amazing, though it's not quite as terrible as he's making it out to be. Enemies do attempt to flush you out, especially the heavy shotgunners. The game does let you hide behind cover a little too often though. The real issue is that enemies die incredibly fast in the game. There's not a lot of time for anyone to sneak up on you. They're generally dead before they get even remotely close to you except for the heavy gunners. The sneaking sections annoyed me more than anything, but overall the game is decent. It's not everyone's cup of tea though. So if you don't think it's right for you, then you're probably right to not buy it or at least wait until it goes on sale.

    This is a game that's specifically designed to showcase the graphical prowess of the PS4. It looks fucking gorgeous. Also, motion capture (both in game and cut scenes) is astounding. Better than any other video game available right now. It feels like your eyes are having sex. Amazing.
    And it was fun to play. Overall, I enjoyed it.
    But yeah - Story could have been substantially better and more fleshed out to draw the player in. Since the camera is always so close to the character's shoulder and the environments are so linear, it kinda feels like the game is choking you at times. Sometimes I'd just turn the game off and start playing an open world game, just to get some oxygen back.
    And the number of QTEs makes you wanna puke. At times, they make sense. Mostly, they just feel forced and the result of the lack of imagination or simple laziness from the developers.
    I'd wait for a sale on this one, but not a big one. Even just 15-20% off is enough to justify getting it.
    This isn't a phenomenal PS4 exclusive as a whole, but it's still better than any Xbox one exclusive I can think of, including Quantum break and all of the Halos.

I also dont have ADHD, like most gamers, so i dont hate cut scenes, i actually like them. This by far has been the best review I've seen for this game. I'm about almost half way through and I have to say that if I just drop the judgement of a game through the eyes of the pretentious eyes and mind of ign, gamespot, etc. I just enjoy the game for the entertainment value. Even with the AI heavy on the clumsy side, it still gives a very entertaining feel and leaves me with a bit of giddiness of a small child.
    What I love about this review (an why I watch your videos last) is that entertainment is high for you and not just your own wordy gobbledygook that other reviewers think the world should feel. Honestly, looking at all the fun factors of the game leave you not with the feeling of guilt and shame, but rather, the feeling of happiness and no doubt that you are along for the ride.
    Thanks again for your reviews and it's your thoughts that ultimately decide where I put my cash when it comes to my game buying.

    Great review! For these types of "Short vs. Long" game length, I like to use a philosophy I heard about a few years back: The shorter it is, the more brilliant is should be. The longer it is, the more interesting it should be.
    I haven't played The Order yet, but if the game in the end left you with a nice conclusion to it's story, and you're happy with it, then I think it has done it's job, despite it's length.
    The real question is: price. Which, I wouldn't mind shelling out $60, but I do understand other people's opinion about why this is Rent/Wait for a sale worthy. In the end, it all comes down to personal preference.

      @ACGreviews  9 лет назад

      cloud154532 Ya I agree. I was fairly disappointed when someone recently asked me if I had timed my time in cutscenes. I haven't ever been asked that and there are games like the MG series that have long cutscenes as well. I guess from now on every single cutscene will be timed and cut off from the gametime. Such an insane time to be into the industry.

      AngryCentaurGaming Somewhat of a "the light that shines twice as bright burns half as long" fell to the game. I am up to chapter 7 and they easily could have made the game longer but thus far simply adding more enemies would fell artificial and whilst it would lengthen the game it would be for the worse. Now more advanced AI that had me panicking what they where doing like no game but the first fear has done for me would also have done it, but as I said, only one game has genuinely shocked me with how good the ai was at countering my movements and attacks with it felling natural and not forced (eg: it not been "you have to go down this path so they can counter you in an already specified way").

    One of the things I really hated about it was the wasted potential. You play freaking monster hunters descended from the knights Templar! And all you do is fight humans! Not to mention the final climax battle of the game is literally just a copy of a previous fight. And they're both just quick time events.

    I think this game should be a must buy. I haven't played it but when I first got the ps4 I was hesitant on which games to buy. Granted if you don't like 3rd person shooters, don't get it or any other aspect don't get it. But if your on the fence just grab it for real. I have yet to be disappointed with a Sony exclusive for the past couple years. It's an experience only on PS4 and most have been great. If you don't like it, flip it for 30 back to gamestop or 45 on craigslist.

    You know you hit the head on the nail with this one, I agree 100% with this review coming from someone who bought the game on day one and was excited for a long time about the game. I really enjoyed the characters, the weapons are unique, the atmosphere is awesome. They just need to put more control/customization for the players in their next title and it could turn out to be an awesome franchise

    Finally a review that makes sense. I absolutely adored this game, I didn't get the story until I played it for the second time, and if you pay attention the story and narrative are actually quite good. The Order reminds me a lot of last gen's beyond two souls where it was trashed for making the player feel passive but delivering a very interesting and amazing story. I bought this game simply because of the poor reception and I'm glad to say I'm really happy I did.

    Thanks again man for a thorough and unbiased review. You're my go-to reviewer now. I have this on preorder and I was afraid you were going to tell me how much it blew and that you'd recommend it only as a rental - not that I can't make decisions on my own but we have a lot of views/values in gaming in common that I take what you say with great consideration. You got it wrong at the end. Its a RENTAL. You're saying it has alot of down time where the game plays itself with alot of cutscenes that u wish you could but can't. The game is short, no replay value, no co op, no upgrade system to at least work for something while going thru this game or movie.
    It's a rental. Indie games have more gameplay then this movie. That $60 price tag makes it all the more of a rip off of a game and no where near a buy unless it's in the bargin bin.

    regardless of length or whatever about this game, kudos to the devs for making a game that works and delivers on what they wanted to create and not send out a broken game requiring multiple patches to get right, pre-ordered this and cant wait to finally play a game that's just a straightforward do this kinda game, to many "next-gen" games are trying(and failing) to create these huge expansive sand boxes with tedious game mechanics that tend to be broken, with shopping list-esque mission structure. Great review seems like that only reliable source on youtube for them!

    The length is also not that bad, it feels just long enough before me getting bored, but i were never bored. the game kept me interesting.

    This game could be a great multiplayer franchise if Santa Monica gives the time to make it happen. I hope Sony gives the green light for a sequel because if they are able to clean up the flaws of the game then this could become one of the best franchises in the ps4.

      +Jamie Tattersall I highly doubt that will happen because the core idea of the game is what's wrong. They spend all there money making incredibly realistic graphics, but use them on pointless things. Like as Extra Credits pointed out theirs a room in the game that serves no purpose to the plot, game play, world building, anything but has amazing graphics in it. They sacrificed game play and originality for graphics which is just insulting.

    • @brianogilby7220
      @brianogilby7220 7 лет назад

      Jamie Tattersall I agree because while I have not played the game the premise of it is strong and from what I have seen of it the main characters seem good. Theres no doubt potential for a Franchise. If it is fixed up so its successfull so it gets a sequel and is part of a Franchise I will buy it.

    I thought it was really cool, and i was engrossed in the characters, but i felt like it was much too short lived. There wasn't nearly enough character or story development. If another one comes out, I would say I would still play it because I was interested, but I was simply disappointed by the lack of content available. All that aside, the game certainly looks fantastic. It's just too bad they didn't put all that work into the gameplay and AI as well.

  • @CosmicFantasiesStudios

    I agree with much of what you said, but the controls were complete rubbish. The reverse analogue slotting, wherein you look with the left and move with the right, had me completely flustered and I could never get used to it. Also, I'm trying to move AND interact with objects with the same hand! This could have been alleviated by giving the player some controller choices by being able to switch the analogue movements but instead I spent waaay too much of my time playing the game looking at the ground while attempting to shoot enemies in boring gunning segments. It was good the AI was stupid because the game wouldn't let me aim straight enough to shoot em right. I played for a few hours and gave up and returned the game to the store. I was downright depressed with how this game turned out.
    And, no, I hadn't read any reviews on the game before playing it. I let the media hype reel me in and that was a mistake. Next time, I'll rent before buying.

    So glad you were able to get this review out before Friday, my man. I was hoping you would, but have to admit I was fearful that it would be later and I would have to wait to buy the game.
    After watching this, I think I am going to go ahead and get it tomorrow as planned. The game is undoubtedly flawed but it certainly has potential. I think the team at Ready at Dawn needs to be overseen by more experienced developers like Naughty Dog to guide and oversee their own development as well as for any sequel. Which reminds of the first Uncharted - flawed but filled with potential - that became a great franchise and is by what most people would now agree as the flagship IP of SCE.

    The Order is currently autoloading onto my PS4, with little under 9hours until activation.
    There are few games that have caused me as much consideration on whether or not to pre-order/buy or ignore them.
    But in the end i decided that this game had its place in my library, if for no other reason than being pretty. Length, gameplay and other factors didn't matter that much as i'm playing other games that deliver all of that and i knew 1886 looked good even before the reviews came out, that's why i pre-ordered it.
    So, after seeing this review, it's nice to know that it has more good areas rather than just its graphics...

    The story is a big factor that was a bit missed in the buy or not factor. I haven't purchased the game as I don't have a PS4, and I usually stick to PCs in the first place. However, I watched all of the cutscenes and important gameplay moments in order, and by what I saw, the cinematic cutscenes add up to be a damned movie. You get a beautiful game and movie in one purchase, and the fact that they're intertwined is great. I just can't stand when people complain about how linear it is for a shooter. Not that anyone did in this review, but I've seen so many complaints on that so far. Its ridiculous. How games even succeed nowadays is beyond me, because every time there's thousands of negative reviews when it comes to console games.

Normally I like cutscenes (For one, MGS4 with it's lenghtly scenes was excellent), but the gameplay need to match the expectation set. No point watching a whole lot of awesome unfold on a cutscene and you have no way of influencing it in the next section of gameplay.

It's a shame that the game is such a standard third person shooter, because the setting and story have potential for so much more. A game doesn't need to be longer than 8 or so hours as long as the trip and the ending are worth it, but the ending doesn't seem very satisfying according to other reviews out there. Yeesh, this game looks so BORING. Like, deathly BORING. I have yet to see anything from this new generation that I would classify as a console seller for the PS4 and Xbone. The gameplay looks completely generic, the story looks like a big missed opportunity (especially considering that they have way more lore to work with but they seem content to focus on the boring rebel business), everything about it looks bland. Sure, it's as pretty as they come, but when all I'm given is six hours of samey gameplay and dull story with absolutely zero replay value, that's when graphics officially cease to matter in the slightest.
    Good review. I just can't stand how much of a missed opportunity this game was. So many good ideas and concepts and yet all we got was a typical third-person shooter with nothing of any real value.

      I think the problem lies more in gunplay than level design. They don't capitalize on the setting and combat possibilities. Think of "Ratchet & Clank" which is a series that basically sells itself on weapon fun-factor. That's what I think this game needed, they should have just gone all-out with interesting enemies and insane weapons with fun mechanics to each one.

      Things are going real bad right now with games on this genre,it was harder and more enjoyable playing games in the 90's,I had amazing great fun beating games on the PS1, Crash Bandicoot for example or DOOM the FPS,solid fun games,the games companies hire PR to hype games to an unbelievable level and when they release the game it is pure shit.

      ***** i honestly dont even care about exclusives anymore. The 3rd parties are where its really at. They dont care about exclusivity except for maybe a few meaningless add-ons. The only game im really anticipating and looking forward to is arkham knight. fuck exclusives

    The Order 1886 is my favorite PS4 exclusive I've played so far & I probably enjoyed it more than any other game of this gen so far.
    Did I want more after the credits rolled? Sure, but in a good way. I didn't have a problem with the games length as many others did.
    I look forward to a sequel & hopefully they will continue to steer clear of any multiplayer. I

    I am really enjoying the game. I find the story intriguing to keep me vested (I haven't finished the game. I don't really feel like any source material addition would really make the story about Grayson and the order any better since it is all based on known myths. I also like the pacing as some games keep you so busy that the battles never hold any real impact as it's just more motion and sound. I think the game is paced this way to make each action sequence seem much more intense. I agree the A.I. could have used some polishing but overall I think this is my of my favorite PS4 games to date. I think if you go into the game with the expectation of a sandbox game you will be disappointed.

    I don't know really. I thought this game was incredible. Yes there were alottttttt of quick-time events but I felt like they were needed. Like what else were they gonna do (I'm mainly talking about the crate burning and the fights with the big Lycans) the sense of direction imo is good. It gives you a realistic feel of the world and what the character is experiencing. The story line was great also. It had a few twists. Some i expected like the (SPOILER ALERT FROM HERE ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) rebels actually turning to be the good guys but I didn't expect Alastair to be a Lycan and his father be okay with. Overall it was a great game. I am a lover of cutscenes. And as long as there is great gameplay to back it up and great voice acting I am perfectly okay to have a lot of cutscenes. But this is just my opinion. I was really disappointed with the lack of respect IGN and Gamespot had for this game with review like 5.5 and 6.5.

    Back in the Blockbuster days, this would've been your classic rental game. Great review as usual Karak.

    I'm for cut scenes, they give me a chance to smoke while I play. But my oh my did this game OD on their cut scenes. This was a $60 movie more than anything. One Cut scene was so long not only was I able to break up my weed, roll up and take a couple of pulls. By the time it was time for me to take over the game play aspect, I immediately died because.... I forgot it was a fucking game. It wasn't the weed either....
