i was a sea cadet as a kid ts blackcap for 6 years . went into the navy and then the army . welsh guards . so many of the places on this video i remember so well . finishing in wellington barracks .
Thanks Pal ! You have reminisced my Sea Cadet days. I took part on 26th Jan, Republic Day Parade, New Delhi, India. In those times, Sea Cadets contingents from UK, Canada & other countries used to visit us on board, T. S. Jawahar, Mumbai, India. All the best !
Reminded me of when I was in the boys bugle band at HMS Ganges in 1951 I still have my bugle. I think I pinched it but I did carry on using it during my naval career. Usually when I was QM. This band is out of this world , well done, wish I could have been there. What fantastic marching and playing. Never seen a female drum major before ... fantastic ..well done. VG SUPERIOR.
Wonderful! Such precision and excellent musicianship. Very stirring ceremony and annual tribute to Admiral Lord Nelson's victory at the Battle of Trafalger fought 209 years ago on 21 October 1805. One of the songs played by the band was "Hearts of Oak" which was in remembrance of the great wooden sailing ships of Nelson's era.
SuperAncientmariner I'm sure you're correct. The Victory had a small band and in addition to playing "Hearts of Oak" they also played "Britons Strike Home" by Purcell as they sailed slowly in to engage the enemy. This was recorded in one of the crew's diaries at Trafalgar.
SuperAncientmariner The Sea Cadets actually have their own official quick march called "Ready Aye Ready" after their motto. It is played when the band march off, at 26:00. You would be correct in saying the "Heart of Oak" is the official march of the Royal Navy, of course. Interestingly, the Sea Cadets also have their own slow march, too, called "Youth in Blue". It is played at 8:03. I think they are wonderful pieces of music and the very fact that the SCC have their *own* marches is testament to its fantastic, rich musical history.
mayhem380 Thank you for that explanation. things have obviously changed since i was the C.O. of a now long closed unit in East Anglia, back in the 80s. Hearts of Oak was the corps march then.....and we didn't have W.Os or Cdrs then, and the girls were the G.N.T.C. and were not integrated as they are now, but a seperate force like the Marine cadets. Anyway B.Z. on the band..... take care..
OMG this is perfect, this is the kind of thing that makes me proud to be in the Sea Cadet Corps, i have been in the SCC for 2 yrs now and i have never seen anything so perfect
Thank you for your reply. Is this an ongoing ban or will the 2014 Trafalgar Parade return to its full splendor of traditional military pomp and circumstance which the British should be justly proud. As a Australian with a deep interest in history and whose family in two World Wars had generations volunteered to serve their far distant King in the Australian Imperial Force, the maintenance of these tradition is important. Yours is another British gift to your friends around the world.
Zeebrugge (quick march). Tn commemorate the 23rd April 1918 heroic and costly raid (ultimately unsuccessfully) on the German occupied & heavily defended Belgium port of Zeebrugge. The assault was carried out by the Royal Navy & Royal Marines who storm the German coastal defenses while the Royal Navy block-ships steamed into Zeebrugge Harbour and were scuttled in an attempt to block the shipping channel. 8 Victoria Crosses were awarded for the operation.
Rifles off parade. Having delved into the matter it would seem the cadet high command and the Royal Navy have taken a stance to withdraw Sea Cadets holding arms in public and further stated this was in line with other cadet organisations. Therefore, the colour is not accompanied with an armed escort except for the colour party which is made up of adults and specially selected for this purpose. While this arrangement is entirely appropriate to protect the colour the origin and reasons why and how it is protected goes back hundreds of years and is an important issue to the military. During battle the colour was a rallying point for troops and the colour party made up of senior NCO's to protect it along with experienced armed troops of the Regiment in support. Many congratulations to your band I hope to see them live one day. They are brilliant.
Why is the colour guard not carrying rifles with fixed bayonets like previous years? This is normal practice when ever colours are paraded or has there been some new legal or other problems on this subject in UK.
Hi im OC Hardy SCC and the reason behind this is that the sea cadets had a big weaponary ban at the time of this event so rifles cannot be used. Hope i helped, have a good one
if its the rifle ban you are on about, then no it is not, the person who controls your armoury needs to get like a qualification or permit which takes a heck of alot of paperwork, we had rifles back about a month ago
hello again, i was so sorry to write....bad bad....because it was not to open the video...now with my new flashplayer i can open it, and look this wonderfull marchingband....the ....bad, ....was not the band, sure not, but ....bad .....was because it was not to open de video with the sound my...my apology if you misunderstand my .....bad, bad
VERY impressive for such young people, the drill was nigh-on perfect. The band also did such a great job, marching and playing are so difficult. The buglers could teach some Household Cavalry trumpeters and Guards division buglers a few lessons: some of their playing is bloody terrible!
Well done kids! Thats how I started TS Worcester! Went on to serve for 25 Happy Years, 13 as a CPO!! Proper Drum Major there, be proud1

Wow, they carry their music.

I think you'll find that "Hearts of Oak" is the official march of the SCC

the smartest people are our sailors
Nice to see my ancestors efforts still remembered. (2 Chappell's aboard Victory that day).
What's the march at 8:54 called? Please and thank you :)
"Royal salute" by Waterer
Rule, Britannia! Britannia, rule the waves!
Britons never, never, never shall be slaves.
What's the song at 5:30? I keep meaning to ask the band every year but never get the chance >.
It's the "HM Jollies" march by Kenneth Alford
HM Jollies
Please can you help me? What is the name of the march of 1.00?

iCIlluSioNSs Yes I agree Sea Cadets have a proper uniform!
I am an air cadet I do respect your views but in order of smartness (both in uniform and IQ) it goes sea, marines then air cadets
@@joshuajones3181 the army cadets bands/corps of drums have the best uniforms.
